If I'm wanting to readopt a kalon out and host the competition, is there somewhere I have to post about it or like, apply to hold one? Do I make it as like, a color in of the original oekaki where I got the kalon, and have that color in as the readopt thread? Do I fill out a form for the archives before or after holding a readoption? Do you need to contact the original artist? I'm confused abt how to go about putting one up, essentially :^) sorry if my questions are worded confusingly!

If you want to host a readoption, you do not need permission to do so; you could just color in their reference and host the readoption there. Once the readoption is closed & judged (please make sure it gets done in a timely manner) you would post an archive update form with the winner's information to completely transfer ownership of the kalon.
You cannot host a readoption via PM, as if you fail to judge it in a timely manner Kalon staff will step in (if required).

They would keep their kalon(s), as long as they haven't been banned from the species.

Yep!

Backmanes can extend all the way down the tail such as on Soba or part way like on Shiro

changing the pupil shape in any way other than the default is a pupil edit (uncommon) !

you can change the design only on the tail when changing the tail! any tail edits only fall under tail edits, not fur edits. so even if the tail has shorter hair on it, it only falls under a tail edit and not the shorter fur edit.
