Normally, no. Double merles often have major disabilities, including blindness and deafness. They are bred when a breeder carelessly breeds two merles to et more merle pups, as they are more in demand. They are sometimes kept so that they can be bred with a solid dog and produce all male pups. (I'm not a mod or anything, just a genetics freak!! Don't mind me, leaving now.)

Yes, I'm aware of the issues that double merle dogs suffer from, that's why I was checking to see if it was allowed with these adoptables. If not, I want one! If so, I don't want to support that kind of thing, even indirectly through a made up dog ouo

I think double Merles are just really rare but can appear. Mine was the first one I've personally seen in BKs and I've seen 2 made since then.

But are they 'allowed'? As in, approved of and made on purpose with only breeding in mind? Or are they just a 'Hey look! A rare and unique dog type to celebrate some special occasion!'?

Double Merles as stated very rarely appear in this species and come with disabilities. I also remember reading that they are to be infertile in this species, but I am not sure if thats been enforced? Im still relatively new here so I apologize if i am behind on some things. c:

Also i have not seen anything specifically stating being unable to breed two merles together, as you can carefully breed them. I believe they just won't result in double merles.

Double Merle's actually ARE allowed in the breed. However, before the ownership change were only available through breeding because they are unhealthy dogs and we as artists don't wish to create dogs that are so unhealthy just for beauty. If an "owner" wants to irresponsibly breed, we can't stop them.

So they are allowed - however as far as I'm aware are only obtainable through breeding; and it's very rare to get one regardless. Just like chimerics are very hard to get(only difference being chimerics are made for public adoption sometimes)
