Why do you want to adopt?
I would like to adopt this pretty girl because of her beautiful design, and her potential to be Miranda's best friend. She is so pretty, and I just want to snuggle with her like she's a little pillow <3 I've decided that even though I'm trying out to be an artist, I only have computer access during weekends (for the most part, but sometimes I can get on the computer during the week) so I thought that I could try for this cutie, too.
Rat Name:
Nola
Personality:
(Likes, dislikes, how they react to people, other rats, etc.)Nola is a social butterfly. She loves to gossip, and almost nothing bothers her. She likes to be like everybody else, and doesn't stick out much in the crowd. Nola is a bit picky about her looks, and absolutely can't stand fur sticking up in the wrong direction, or dirt/mud. Instead of having a tight circle of really close friends like Miranda does, Nola has many friends, although she barely knows some of them. She can't really keep a secret, and before long, anything that reaches her ears is everyone's gossip. At first, she drives Miranda crazy. But we shall see what happens in the story...
Quirks:
(Little things like "Enjoys sleeping on her back", "Loves hoarding candy wrappers", etc.) Nola loves lace, ribbon, jewels, jewelry, and just about anything else pretty/of value. She keeps a stash of valuables tucked away somewhere...
What do you plan on doing with your rat?
(Roleplay, Make art of, Hoard art of, etc.) I plan to make art of Nola, put in my character thread when I get that up, love to death, and get a ferffle from Shire if I can ever catch the shop open ^^
If you feel you can no longer care for your Rat, will you return it here to find a new home? I would, but I haven't returned any rats yet, and don't plan on it anytime soon

So yah.
Artwork/Story? Nola peered down the alleyway. Not a creature stirred.
"Bella, Jehala? Where are you guys?" The soft wind was the only thing to be heard. Nola shivered. Had the cat eaten them? She turned around and walked away. She picked up speed, and hurried back to the rat community that she called home. Lizzie would kill her. It had been Nola's idea to leave in the first place. Lizzie had been Bella's best friend, although none of their large group was really that horribly close. Nola didn't even feel that much remorse for her friend, because she had so many others, and things like this happened once in awhile. She dashed thought the hole in the wooden fence, and ran into the abandoned network of meercat tunnels. Another of her friends named Lauren was standing sentry.
"Where's Bella and Jehala?" She asked. Nola's eyes traced the curves of Lauren's claws with her eyes.
"The cat got them." She said at last.
"Oh." Laura replied with a sigh. Nola hurried past. She wanted to be way out in the farther reaches of the burrow before word spread to Lizzie. There was a screech. She ran faster, thinking it was Lizzie. She had no idea that her home was under attack. She kept going, and reached the far entrance. That's strange she thought. There's no one keeping guard. There was a loud yowl. Lizzie definitely didn't sound like that. Nola looked back, smelling blood and dogs. She was terrified. She ran faster than she had ever run in her life and burst out into the light. Her eyes where screwed tight with fear. Nola didn't know how long she had been running. The dirt changed to pavement after awhile. Then SMACK. Nola collided head-on into something similar to her size and fluffy. A grunt sounded from the thing she had run into, and then a colorful swear. She shivered, and curled up into a ball. She hoped that the creature who possessed such a sharp tongue didn't have sharp claws as well. Nola covered her muzzle with her paws.
"Where do you think you're going so fast?" It hissed. She quivered, and pressed herself flatter to the pavement. Nola peered out at whatever she had barreled through. It was a rat. And it was female. She couldn't believe her eyes. Nola had never seen a female rat behave like that in her life. Girls where supposed to be... Girly. The rat had a white underbelly and chin, with a reddish brown back and head that faded and freckled into the white. She had dark brown stripes along her back and face, with a crescent marking around her light purple eyes. There the sound of paws on pavement to her right. Napa shrunk away from the sound.
"Miranda, what did you do to that poor little rat? She's terrified." The voice came from the direction of the paw steps.
"I didn't do anything to the ratlet." The first rat replied in disgust. "That" she flicked her tail in Nola's direction, " came barreling into me. I was just standing here, minding my own business." she clarified.
"Then why does she look so scared?" The second rat challenged.
"I don't know, why don't you ask her yourself?" The first rat answered.
"Fine." He replied. Then the rat slowly walked forward until he was an inch away from Nola. "What's wrong?" he asked gently. When she whimpered, he added "Don't worry, we won't hurt you." Nola slowly lowered her paws from her eyes. She was surprised and shocked to see a rat that looked like a pineapple, complete with a mane of pineapple "hair", and golden eyes. She took a deep breath.
"Something attacked my home, and killed a lot of those who lived with me. I managed to escape, and I kept running until I ran into her." Nola replied, eyeing the female rat.
"Why don't you come home with us?" The male rat asked. "You'll have a place to stay until you decide what to do. And by the way, I'm Rae, and that's Miranda." He said over his shoulder. Nola got up and obediently followed Miranda and Rae. She wondered what was about to become of her life.
They walked about a block, and then stopped in front of a larger house with a nicely manicured lawn, and a sizable backyard that had many trees in it. There was a small dog laying down on the front lawn.
"Rupert, could you please open the dog door for us?" Miranda asked. The dog lifted his head sleepily.
"Yes, yes of course. I'll be right there." With that, he got up, yawned, stretched, and pushed open the dog door, waiting for all the rats to come in before releasing it. "Who's the new one?" Rupert asked after they had all settled down in the living room on the thick, fluffy rug. Miranda shrugged.
"She never really told us." She added.
"I'm Nola." Nola said in response. Then, a human walked in.
"Oh, a new little rat! What are you doing here, sweetheart?" Of course Nola answered, but being a human, she didn't understand a world Nola said.
"She's our mistress." Rae told her as she was fussed over and given a bed to sleep in. Nola nodded sleepily. "Good night, I'll see you in the morning." Rae said, yawning. And with that, he left. Nola watched him leave. She thought about her necklace hoard sadly. It was probably gone, because whatever had attacked her home dug it all up. Nola's eyelids started drooping, and before she knew it, she had fallen asleep. There was a screeching sound. Nola looked around wildly. There was a scary shadow hawk thing, with glowing red eyes flying above her head. It was diving at her. Heart in throat, Nola leapt to the side. A fox hissed at her from within the shadows. Bella and Jehala materialized in front of her.
"You left us to the cat. Such a horrible rat. Why are you here, we don't want you near! Sewage scum. Not to mention that you are dumb." They chanted in unison while the fox crept closer and the hawk circled lower with every wing stroke. "You left us to die, and we where pie. For that dreadful cat." Then the fox lunged. Nola woke up screaming. Her eyes flew open. She was relieved to see that see was back in Rae and Miranda's house. It was all just a dream.
"Nola, are you ok?" Nola was surprised it was Miranda that was asking. Usually, Miranda didn't treat her too horribly nicely. She didn't think that Miranda would be concerned about her, but Nola could tell from the tone in Miranda's voice that she was genuinely worried about her.
"Yah, I'm fine." Nola replied at last. "Just had a bad dream." She sighed. Miranda padded up to her and sat down next to Nola, brushing her tail against Nola's shoulder.
"I know how you feel." Miranda told her. I used to get nightmares all the time, until I was taken in by Rae and our mistress. They faded, with time. I'm sure yours will, too." Miranda said, smiling at Nola.
The next morning, Miranda, Rae, Rupert, and Nola walked to the kitchen together to get breakfast. Ruoert propped the fridge door open, and Miranda scampered in to grab a hunk of cheese and a slab of pork. She pushed the things off the shelf and into the waiting arms of Nola and Rae. Breakfast was devoured, and then the bunch went outside to take a walk around the block. On the way back, Rupert gave the rats a ride. When they got home, Nola went to the backyard. She climbed the weeping willow that grew there and sat in one of the top branches, gazing up at the sky. Awhile later, there was a rustling sound close to her right. Nola turned and saw Miranda as she settled beside her.
"How did you find me " Nola asked.
"I didn't really." Miranda replied. "This is one of my favorite places."
"It's beautiful. Do you want me to leave?" Nola added shyly.
"Oh no, I don't mind a little company. It makes it even better." Miranda said hurriedly. Nola nodded. They stayed there for the rest of the evening.
When it started getting dark out, Miranda and Nola climbed through the open kitchen window to get back inside. Their mistress gave them clam chowder for dinner, and Nola found that she totally loved it. She had never had soup or clams before, and at first hadn't wanted to even try the soup. Miranda urged her to eat some anyway, and Nola was happy she had eaten it. An peach pie was for dessert. Their mistress pads the best peach pie in the whole wide world. After that, Nola went to bed with a full stomach. That night, she had pleasant dreams.
"Nola, are you going to stay with us forever?" Miranda asked one day.
"Of course, I couldn't ever imagine leaving." Nola replied with a wide grin. ~
