Adding a way to understand Item Rarity

Postby Mojokitty » Tue Jan 18, 2022 2:36 pm

Hello all, I had a quick look about previous posts on item rarities, but didn't find anything specific to what I was wondering, but a suggestion for the site,

I have had many trades recently that want VR/OMGSR or ex list pets for random items. These random items (once looking through multiple threads) I have found are from 2009 so it makes me believe these must be hard to find which is why people are asking so much for them. My suggestion is, to make things easier for players, and to ensure no unfair/scam trades, we add some sort of way to help understand rarities of items. I think this will not only help the confusion, but also help make items a more sort after thing! Maybe if not the same rarity system as pets, it could be a different system; all in hopes of making it easier for players to understand value of items. I think this also would be helpful as CS becomes more difficult and would help remove some of the subjectivity so that the item value does exponentially increase to impossible values. (I say this because without the old list, pets and items are becoming harder and harder to trade and acquire for new players)

Suggestions may include:
1. Adding a rarity bar to each item. (that is not the same as the pets rarity!!! as if it was the same as pet rarity it has been declined before even though I think it would be more practical than confusing)
2. Add a thread that lists and goes through rare items, and states why they are rare (eg older, from 2009).
3. Add a warning message before trading older items stating that they may have high value
4. Add a date/aura/colour/star at the bottom of a rare/VR item.
4. Please comment if you have some more interesting ideas to solve the issue c:

This may not be possible but I thought I'd put it out there as a suggestion because I know I would really appreciate it.
Thanks <3

This has been suggested and declined:

Hey Axelandria,
I have suggested a few other ways item rarity could be explained (besides the coloured bar that pets have) to new and old players in my original post, I think it would make trading easier, at least now that trading as become so confusing and subjective especially when referring to items! Because items are released differently to pets, surely it would serve helpful to have some sort of way to understand them better and to make items more popular to trade?
I have updated the title to reflect these thoughts c:

My understanding is that since items do not have individual IDs like pets do, we cannot track how many of each item exists so assigning rarities to items wouldn't be possible. Even if the value system was different to pet rarity bars, it would still need to be able to calculate how many there are on active accounts.

However, I do agree it would be helpful to have at least some indication that an item may be more valuable than others. It has been suggested that store items should be marked as store items, particularly retired ones. Personally I think that is a good step in the right direction ^^
