- Sorry if this has already been suggested before, I tried to search but couldn't find anything like it. In light of the recent ban on DNI lists and the discussion regarding triggering content and blocking users, I wondered if there was any way that CS could implement more advanced display options when it comes to user profiles and how they appear in the forums, ie: signatures and avatars.
At the moment we have the option to toggle all user's signatures and avatars on or off in the user control panel, which is cool if you like that feature! But in the case that someone's profile features content that is not necessarily inappropriate, but for some reason is otherwise unsightly to an individual, your only option (given that you do not want to disable ALL signatures and avatars across site) is to block the user. Which is fine, of course, but once you start blocking lots of people in the forums, it becomes a hassle to navigate forum threads where those people also frequent, as well as facing the issue of forgetting who you blocked and why: one question I find myself asking every once in a while is "did I block this person because I don't want to interact with them, or did I block them for a more petty reason, like their avatar at the time being upsetting to me?" Just because I may not be fond of what someone has in their signature or what their profile picture is doesn't mean that I want to bar them from my CS forum experience entirely!
In light of this, I'm curious to know if the site is capable of implementing some more advanced display setting features when it comes to the visibility of other player's profile content - is there any way that we could manually toggle whether or not we see a particular user's signature/avatar/stamp collection, without blocking them full stop? I wonder if there could be a drop-down list just like the block feature for disabling particular player's signatures or avatars.
This setting would be entirely client-side, so I don't imagine it would require any moderation or somehow incite harassment of users! It'd purely be for the user to curate their experience as they navigate the forums without having to negate users from their playstyle over something as "small" as a profile picture or a signature they don't like.
I think a feature like this would be helpful in managing what content users want to see. Have a nice trading partner but can't stand the media featured in their signature? Disable their signature and continue to trade with them. Someone in the forum game you like has a flashing gif as an icon that strains your eyes? Disable it and continue to play. Someone in your closed species community has duck stamps, and you're horribly terrified of ducks? Disable it and continue to engage with them!
I absoutely have no experience with phpbb forums, so I have no idea if this is a feasible option!! But if it is, I think some users would greatly appreciate being able to utilize it so they can continue to use the site at its maximum capacity without having to block users entirely and isolate them from the community forum experience. :]
edit: added poll to gauge interest!
