Store Suggestion: Item Preview

something else i think would be cool if there was a full item dressup type thing, somewhat like in flight rising where you can choose a pet by ID to use as a dress-up model, be able to use any items you want (not just a single store item or item set) and be able to save the outfits you create as well in a sort of workshop type area until you have the means of actually being able to dress them up fully if that makes sense ^_^

i know this is technically possible through scenes and having people provide items for you, but i feel like it would be a toooooon easier for players that want to see how certain items would look on their pets without having to go through the process of contacting dozens of players about it !

Hmm I do like that idea, but maybe limit it to one item at a time? That way it doesn’t flood the servers with data and also people can’t cheat the trade system and just dress the pet up, save the image, and be done. I feel like it would hurt the trade market and make items no longer have value if you could dress a pet up however you want without actually owning the items if that makes sense. Would also cause issues with players that actively pay a lot for their item collection.

not sure if you really understood what i mean, but it wouldnt give the player an item - just letting the player use it in a system where it would save outfits, either on random or on specific pets. as opposed to letting players 'dress the pet up, save the image, and be done', it would be on a completely different canvas than if it were in an actual dress-up. i feel like it wouldnt hurt item values at all because most players tend to want to get the real items to dress up their pets anyways if they are going to the extent of dressing them up in a system like that to see how the items look, and if they dont, its usually because the specific item might look out of place

edit since i forgot: also item values are not just something you can take a way after so many years - theyre based on how the item was achieved and how many players got it, and the creation and release date is also a factor, so its not like they would suddenly drop down in value -- there are a bunch of (in my opinion) ugly items that are extremely valuable that i dont see anyone using to dress up their bets but just to own for item collections or any other reason

though im unsure how it would be stored - i dont code personally and im not sure how much stress it would put on the website if there were that many saved dress-ups, but considering that there are so, so many scenes, dress-ups, etc., i feel like it wouldn't make too much of a difference, also especially considering that there are scenes completely designated for dressing pets up and are filled with a bunch of items and pretty much nothing else. but feel free to correct me if im wrong! n_n

To be fair, people can save the images of pets too. Some of the fun is actually collecting them and getting to call them your own :)

lol i know - hence me saying that the canvas the dress-up would be on would be completely different from a normal dress-up - if people are so concerned with that, preview watermarks could just be added to the pet, but it's not like it would say "...s pet" and be transparent, either. in my eyes, it would have a background that stands out (either one that pretty clearly dictates that its a preview or one that is #ffffff or something) or other things to make it clear that its a preview rather than a real dress-up ^_^

Here’s the thing : if done right, it’ll be completely different from actually having the dressup on your pet. There’s a sorr of satisfaction when it comes to decoration that can only be achieved through finishing the project, and while yes, people could just screenshot a mock-up and put it in their signatures, that won’t change the value of the market by much if at all. The items are still limited, and if anything it may even bring more demand to items trading as folk have the freedom to experiment and set goals for dress-ups.

yes my thoughts exactly reading this!! being able to preview an item on your pet isn't the same as actually having it whatsoever, and if anything i think this feature would only make me want certain items more after trying them out!!
i definitely think RPG's idea is a good one, and would potentially bring more demand to items. at least in theory as i also don't understand coding at all.. OTL

As mentioned above, maybe a big fat watermark over the image could deter it, but I doubt the CS servers could even handle such a thing and its more work on Nick.

A bit of a stretch, but remember dvds? Now with free streaming and cheap, not many people really buy them anymore because they have free access to the shows and movies already at home. Why spend more money to own what you already have access to? Thus the value of the dvd lowers because demand for them lowers.

i doubt so - theoretically, someone could already make a completely fake dress-up like this without a preview dress-up feature being in place. items are usually saved as pngs on the website by default so someone could just get a transparent rip of any pet (even a pet that they dont own) and just add said items to the pet easily inside any sort of editing or paint program and make it look like they own said items ^^;

but even if they did do that, as i said before, it would not harm the item economy at all ... someone could tell users that they have 100 ur tigers and do an inspect-element trick on one of their groups to add them there and take a screenshot of them without them actually even being present in the group, but if they arent real, how would it harm the value of the pet ? (hint: it wouldnt! just like how it wouldnt harm items)

of course, just like your suggestion, this is mine, and i wouldnt want to be forcing anyone to comply with it; its just an idea that i think would be interesting and very helpful if executed as i have personally traded high value pets for items that i eventually realized didnt fit on my pets the way i wanted them to ! ^_^

big support!! i feel like it'd benefit a lot of ppl out there; perhaps you could even have a feature to select a pet directly from your collection rather than needing to source the id?
