I think it's a good idea! Only thing I would suggest is:
person with locked trades sends another person a trade -> other person doesn't like it, wants to edit -> edited trade being sent goes through the trade block -> locked trades person can answer it as normal

otherwise it might lead to a bit of a mess

Yeah, if you’re already trading with someone, they’d be able to edit the trade.

I'm surprised it's not a feature yet. I know some of the Mods have it set that you cant send them trades.

Really??? Huh you’d think they would have it for everyone then.

I'm pretty sure Tess has said that there is no plan to implement allowing users other than staff (possibly even just high levels of staff) to 'block' or 'stop' trades from occuring. I cannot find it, but I'm pretty sure I've read a comment about this.

although Tess mentioned in 2011 that regular users getting to turn off trades the same way she did is probably not going to happen (but the suggestion thread linked has a condition that would differentiate the option for users from the option for Tess)
