“want another story, ren?”
lavender eyes flutter open, like little larks skipping through ivory plumes in the sky.. it was a beautiful thing, really.. how something so innocent could melt his heart.

“tell me something different.. a poem or something?”
her voice was a daffodil.. a little flower that always seemed to bloom in the dark.

“roses are red-”
“cielo, i think i prefer your stories.”

“told you my stories are always good.” huffing playfully, the gentle bop of his fingers against her nose was all it took for a squeal to adorn reality.

“ now.. once upon a time.. i was the first of the arch-angels and-”

"do you always have to start like this?"
"hush.. it's better this way."

---but, never more than that. he wasn’t a god.. neither had he ever been as adored as his brother .. and it only seemed like an eternity ago when he was crowned the god of the sky. caelus.
while he.. remained nothing more than an angel.

they always saw caelus as the better version out of pairs of twins.
caelus was the first to smile. to crack a joke. to light up the entire world with his honeyed words. he did that, too.. just.. not enough.

then, there he was, captivated by.. a mirror, one so special, it reflected the life of mortals.
but, there was that maiden.. with lavender eyes that always changed. bright.. before being adorned with tears. he knew all too well.. how easily her sing-song voice would be broken with sobs.
he could see her, now.

beneath the weeping skies, he could almost feel the waver of her broken heart.
he longed to be there. comfort her. tell her it would be alright.

but, who was he?
to her, he would be a complete stranger.
but to him, he knew her as much as he knew himself.

but, even so.. it could never be.
connections between mortals was punishable with death.. but hardly spoken of. because.. only the deities and a prized few. while, angels.. they could only watch from a mirror. a mirror that seemed to cradle all his troubles away and replace them with other ones.

“what happened next?”
“i tried to see her.. but i was found out...”


he was so dead.
because now.. he would never get a chance to comfort that weeping maiden.

“oh, cielo. i’m so sorry.” eyes of lapis lazulis glistened in the dark.. adorned with the softest of blues.
“you don’t have to be, cae. just-.”

“shh.. cielo.. i need you to hold this.” beautiful beneath the light of a thousand stars, the soft greens of a lonely crystal blossomed in his palm. “hold on to it for me.. you won’t die, cielo. not today.”

then.. the shadows danced him away.. and the weeping maiden comforted him, singing all his sorrows away.
