After years of searching and swimming after the boy and mer who wronged her, Lorelei gave up in her search.
Her anger had taken over her rational thoughts and she was no where closer to finding either of her quarries.
She decided to stop on her favorite island, Skull Island as she dubbed it in her travels, to rest and come up with an actual plan.
As she moved toward the giant, hollow skull shaped stone that she named the island for, Lorelei heard voices coming from behind it.
Peeking around, she saw a pirate ship docked by the sand and rocks with it's mast and flags waving in the winds.
On the land, the pirates were preparing a fire to see one another and enjoy a late meal of fish.
As she continued to listen, she heard them bicker and fight about what to do about a boy,
a flying boy who has been the bane of their existence since they came to the area.
A boy who was beginning to sound more and more like the boy she herself had been searching for all this time.
Then one voice rose above the others, "I'll tell you what we'll do boys!"
And the crowd quieted to hear.
The voice appeared to come from a young man, not much older than Lorelei.
"We'll ask around the islands after where the boy hides when he sleeps.
It's not like he never lands, has to be times he stops.
Once we have the location and determine that it really is where he goes,
then we will strike and make sure he'll never be our problem again!"
A roar of agreement from the crew washed over Lorelei, and she also agreed.
Maybe these pirates could help her and she could help them.
In the end, both of their goals would be complete.
As the crew began packing away their supplies and meals,
Lorelei dragged and wiggled herself over to the charismatic man that rallied the pirates and herself
into a hope of catching the boy.
"Hello," said she, startling him.
But he was quick to recover and gave her a smile.
"Hello there, are you a mermaid?" he asked her.
Her eyes flashed in irritation at being mistaken for those who left her.
"No, I'm something better, a siren," she retorted and pushed strands of her hair back.
"But don't sirens lure sailors to their deaths?
I am a sailor of sorts but I'm not feeling the least bit close to my death."
He didn't back away from her, but instead leaned closer as if teasing her.
Confused at his approach with the different information presented,
she also leaned forward and stated,
"If you were being lured to your death you wouldn't feel like it anyways,
your brain would confuse it with something pleasurable to you until the last second.
However, sirens can also destroy more than just people with their voices.
Why just a few years ago I destroyed a beach of stones,
now it is only a beach of pebbles.
But I'm getting further from why I came over here."
She paused, not knowing how the pirate would reply to her request.
"I want to join the crew in your plan to stop the flying boy."
The pirate's smile faltered a moment but he was quick to put it back in place.
"How could you help us?
It seems as though it is hard for you to move about on land so I imagine it'd be just as hard to move on a ship."
"That is true, but it was also not what I'd be doing.
I would act as a scout and spy under the water.
Using the information the crew gathers, I can watch nearby for any sign of truth to the information given.
In addition any time he comes to harass you all,
I could follow him when he leaves and tail him.
We might gather more information on him this way."
The pirate thought for a moment and replied to her,
"I quite like the way you think, I certainly would like to hear more of this idea that you have.
Might I ask what your name is?"
"Lorelei, and yours oh pirate?"
"Hook, Captain James Hook my lady.
Let's inform the rest of the crew of the addition to our plans shall we?"
And together they went and told the crew of what they planned to do.
