Abandoned Hideout / 11:34 AM, Istik 7th

The building you find yourself in front of is unassuming. The brickwork is old, parts of it covered in climbing plants that look as though they haven't been tended to in a while. You're not surprised; the report you're following up on was submitted a few months ago, and this place was supposedly vacated around the same time. Witchhunters in and around Acomaqui have been scarcer than anyone would like thanks to the... problems, in Lake Celia of late- you were the only one available to investigate. This village is further than what you would normally consider your purview, but needs must. The Illuminators must be brought to justice.

Now, how do you begin?

The Illuminator of Doors, so people call her. Part of you wonders how their full name ever became known.


ORIGIN: Rezvan, Obredora
CRIME: Body
LAST SEEN: Trillai- Dresite
Active throughout continent.
Danger to body and surroundings.
Proficiencies include portal and medicinal spells.


Not one for much elaboration, were they? Typical of the dog, though, you suppose.

SUPPLEMENTAL-
Illum. was tracked from Inver, sightings reported from Acomaqui led to last known discovery in Trillai. Did not engage, and fled upon attempt at contact. Rumours from villagers of another person accompanying, however currently unconfirmed. Investigation of site pending.
Sightings common, assigned lesser priority due to Celia incidents. Often favoured by public opinion, take verbal reports with caution.


You're sure this might be useful, if you could read any of it. Whoever wrote it seems to have run out of space... From what you can make out, it's nothing you don't already know, at least.

CASE REPORT: MISSING PERSON

INCIDENT SUMMARY-
NAME, AGE: Nausikaa- 10yrs


The missing girl that was supposedly seen around here. You took this file with you almost on a whim... She's been gone a while now, it's unlikely she'll be found.


ORIGIN: Olyma Children's Home- Dresite
NOTABLE FEATURES: 4.5ft light hair, green eyes, shoulder birthmark
LAST SEEN: Olyma- Dresite


Looks like this file hasn't been updated in a while.



FURTHER INFORMATION-
First reported as missing on 11/09. The caretaker noticed that one of the girls hadn't returned, and made inquiries around the village before reporting her as missing.
Says there was no prior indication of likelihood for running away, or falling victim to kidnapping. Described as a smart and hardworking girl. Non-magician as the rest of the village, but has shown interest in magic "as children tend to".
Surveys of the village and surrounding area provided little information as to her possible whereabouts, witness reports are frustratingly vague and likely unreliable.


This almost makes it sound like the townsfolk didn't want her to be found... That can't be right, though, surely? The people around here certainly seemed concerned.



Possibility of kidnapping cannot be ruled out, though evidence is lacking. Tracking attempts have proved unsuccessful. Suspected magical interference, further investigation needed.


Evidence of magic use in crimes is usually somewhat rare, but the cases become quite popular when they happen. Maybe that's why it was so eagerly reported to you that someone thought they saw a child in the Illuminator hideout- you don't remember the name of the person who'd flagged you down, though.

Well, you certainly could do that. This area isn't technically under your jurisdiction, although your oaths and peers would undoubtedly disapprove of you shirking your duties. The villagers who asked for your aid, too, would surely be disappointed- not that you have that much reason to believe you might find the missing girl here. Rumours are only rumours, after all.

Will you still leave?

You took an oath, after all. Whether or not the missing child can be found, if the Illuminator of Doors really was here then you are duty-bound to find them.

If you insist. You glance over the building a final time before turning on your heel, returning the way you came. None of the villagers question you- why would they?- as you pass, some even call praises to the Witchhunters and invite you for a drink. It's not a bad occupation to have, really. Especially when you avoid any actual responsibilities.
