All was not always well within the world. In the beginning, there was nothing besides light and dark. Levant and Juno. The two fought and fought for dominance over the new world they had made, Gaia. Levant would land a sharp blow, donning his golden armor and fiery-spear. But then Juno would land a blow herself, shrouded in her dark robes and staff made of bright, orange moonstone. They could never beat each other, for they were equals through and through. And as their world of Gaia grew with more life popping up that needed to be cared for and civilizations who adorned one or the other, they grew very distant. Not coming into contact with each other again for thousands of years as they took care of each side of their worlds respectively. Juno caring for the Northern hemisphere and Levant caring for the Southern hemisphere.
Years carried on until the southern and northern winds brought them together one fateful day in the midst of Juno’s fall and Levant’s spring. An undeniable urge brought the two together at the equator. The hidden line of meaning where eachother would not cross into the boundaries of the other. They stood across from each other on a place called The Sacred Mountain within what is now known as the Lands of Remus. An ancient kingdom that was birthed from this fateful day.
The pulling and tugging brought them to the center of the clearing, where now, they stood only a few meters apart. Juno was the first to speak. Her voice was crisp and clear despite their age. If you hadn’t known, you would assume she was just 25 years of age. “It’s been a long time, Levi.” Her voice dipped mockingly at the old nickname she used to yell at him in the middle of battle. The name was supposed to mean ‘to be joined’ or ‘to be in harmony’, in which in those days, Levant was not that by any means. His harmony was that of a screeching crow who was dragging his claws across ice. A small smirk appeared against her grin, only the main two of her 5 eyes open as the other 3 were to open only when she was chanting her daily ritual to raise her moon and night over Levant’s cursed bright sun and days.
Levant pulled a grin, a small little spark lit in his chest as he gazed at the moon deity. It’s been thousands of years since he’s seen her and he hasn’t noticed the pull in his chest to be near that blasted, annoying, but terribly stunning deity who he also despised. His gaze broke sharply against hers. Juno always had a very powerful and strict aura to her that shredded his to tiny specks.
They had grown so distant since the days that they fought together. Molding the land with each scorching blow from each other. The volcanos used to quake under them battling. Spewing up magma which flowed into islands. Creating acres and acres of untamed land. Levant had grown quite timid since those days. Not as hot headed as he had been back when the creation began. While Juno on the other hand had changed in her own ways as well. A fear of the light, you may call it, had shrouded her judgment and made her on edge. It made her untrusting of many and those who worshiped her now were often those who were prey to others. The thought of Levant being known as “the god of all men” now in these times gave her a sense of anger and hatred like all those moons ago.
But a sense of regret and pride was there as well. Levant could feel her thoughts as she pondered over this across from him. The feelings rolled off of her like waves. ‘She was never good at hiding her feelings’, he thought with a bit of a grin. This caused Juno to snap her head up and glare at him. “What did I tell you about reading my emotions. Get out of my head!” she snapped. Juno could feel Levi hastily recede from reading her mind as he had been caught.
“I’ve always hated that power of yours.” she muttered and stepped closer to the center of the clearing, sitting in the middle of it and beckoned for him to join her.
Levant hesitantly agreed. Moons ago, he would never submit to such a thing. Being close to Juno only meant one thing, and that one thing was being tricked. While Levant could read the minds of people, pulling his conscious into another’s and reading, or manipulating, what he could see as well as telepathically talking to someone, Juno’s was quite more wide ranged and extravagant. Though she had the power to do this, it was much lesser than Levi’s, so she took up the powers of telekinesis and mind manipulation much more than he had. She could force visions into people’s line of sight. Convince them of things. Hover things with her mind. Though as much as she didn’t like to admit it, she didn’t like using these powers. It made her feel like she was the real villain and not the man sitting shoulder to shoulder with her now. She felt a brush of fire shoot up her veins as his wings brushed her sides. It caused her heart to pound unnecessarily. This feeling was forgein to her, and there's no way you could get her to admit that it was because that idiotic fire-bird moron was sitting right next to her.
“Why do you think. . . this, calling, has brought us here.” she pondered silently as they sat on the mountain. The sky was a dazzling gleam. It was halfway through day and halfway through the night. Just enough where it wouldn’t unease each other to be in the other’s preferred lighting. The sun and moon sat on opposite sides of each other in the sky. Perfectly balanced and grey, as all things should be. Though Juno was tall, Levant was taller, nearly towering over her by an extra foot.
“I’m-. . honestly not sure.” he murmured, angling his head down and to the side so he could look at her clearly. Clearly for the first time in thousands of years. His eyes shone with a softness he didn’t mean to let through. He couldn’t lie to himself that he missed this spitfire of a woman. The battles they fought, all seemed like a distant argument now. Something that, over time, had healed and mended into something wonderful.
Juno lifted her head up to look to Levi, her eyes softening while the angry thoughts from before started to recede.
“It’s been so long. . .” she murmured quietly, hardly even a sound but Levant caught it.
“I know-. . . I know. . .” he softly spoke, a newfound spark in his chest was swelling. Levant brought his head down as Juno did as well, angling so they had to look at each other through hooded eyes. Their horns rested against each other with a small clicking noise. A soft sigh of relief was exchanged through both of them as a sense of peace overtook the uncomfortable air and tossed it aside. Tears glistened in the grass as their sobs echoed the surrounding valley.
Above them, the sky mingled together, bringing on a new form. Dawn and Dusk was born. Not just sudden night and sudden dark. A mix between the two formed, gradual and warm. Not just white and black. A gray. The sun and moon both receded to the center of the sky coming together as one. Creating a lunar eclipse.
From this, Yvaine was born. Coming from the sun and moon, light and dark, white and black. She was the gray. The thing that was complete and utter balance between the two odds.
Levant embraced Juno fully, bringer her to his chest and protectively wrapping his wings around her in a cocoon like manner. Yvaine tumbled from the lunar eclipse and landed in front of Juno and Levant. His wings released Juno while Juno’s dual arms released him. They both gazed at the small bundle.
Her wings were as black as night with mint highlights. Her hair was dark and curly, matching the two. Pink, starry eyes gazed up at the deities. Her body was a blending of mint, brown, and cream, while her fluffy tail wrapped around herself.
“Th- The call-” Juno mumbled, stumbling over to the small child and scooping her up in her arms protectively.
Levant stared at the child who looked so much like a mix between himself and Juno. “The call, was to bring us together-. . . as one.” he stuttered as he walked over to Juno and stood behind her, looking at the child from over her shoulder.
“Yvaine.” he spoke and Juno turned and looked at him confused. “That should be her name.” and Juno understood. She was supposed to be a parent now to this poor scrap. A mix of her and Levant, birthed from the sky itself.
“Yvaine is a lovely name.” She blushed, looking back up to Levant.
