If you want to match my sticker style for my character mashup challenge follow this simple tutorial!


1. Sketch
2. Line
3. Add all the colors. Set lineart layer to multiple, use a lighter color to make inner lineart lighter with outline remaining black.
4. Use a large brush and trace over the lineart shape, making a “cut to the edge” sticker style white border.
5. Duplicate the white border, turn it black (invert tool for quick change), and shift it to one side according to your light source
6. Gradient blur black border on default settings. Drop opacity to desired shadow amount. (The one above is at 60%)

For Additional Fancy you can add more shading to the sticker. But I did it this way to make the colors easier to grab with the eyedropper tool.

bonus hint for step 4: if you don't want to draw the white border manually, try this!
1. duplicate your lineart layer
2. blur (set radius to however large you want your border to be)
3. duplicate -> merge -> duplicate -> merge -> etc (very fast with keyboard shortcuts) until it looks solid
4. lock alpha and color it white
5. move your new white border underneath!

I already had all finished my character imitating your sticker style when I saw your tutorial XD, well, I can always use it as tips for when I draw the mashup.

It's a really good tutorial, and thank you very much for making it. I'm sure many people will like it and find it useful for these mashups in for long term.
