Pathogen is a lit+ unique modern fantasy (with a touch of post-apocalyptic) OS roleplay. We've got parallel universes, fairy courts, vampires, angels, secret government agencies, hiveminds and more. This is all wrapped in a group of awesome members--and we're looking for more.
The roleplay takes place in two universes: a normal one much like ours, and a destroyed parallel called the Otherworld. Although humanity once ruled in the Otherworld, a force known as the fae, originally bound by Druids in the Dark Ages, escaped from their prisons and destroyed the entire world. Now, it is a barren landscape of crumbling cities and monsters who would really like to eat you for a midmorning snack (including a glowing entity known as the Hivemind).
Normally this would pose no issue to humanity, but recently the barrier between our universe and the Otherworld has been... thinning. Thinning dangerously. Thinning to the point where fae have begun to cross over. The point of contact? London, where the Courts of the fae have their power centers and also where the influence of the fae is strongest in our world.
But the British, being the British, are already prepared for this. Enter CAFE: the Center for Alien-Fae Exterm!n@t!0n. A secret government agency of Traversers, or humans who can cross between the worlds, their job is to protect not only Britain but the entirety of our planet from any supernatural danger.
CAFE can't control who can Cross, however. The ability to Cross between worlds is given by a pathogen, invisible to all but the best of magical equipment, with unknown methods of transfer and propagation. Normal people have begun to Cross, and although some have joined up with CAFE, others have formed splinter groups--for example the Quicklings, who are harvesting things called 'mana crystals' that grow in the underground regions of the Otherworld. These mana crystals can be ground into a valuable powder known as pixie dust, which is then sold on the black market for a high profit.
This conflict has not gone unnoticed by other powers, however. Two other factions have recently become interested in this little fiasco. The first is the Timekeepers, a group of enigmatic and seemingly emotionless grim reapers who operate from a demiplane of their own creation known as the Ocular. As for the other, well... that'll be introduced in our plot. We promise it'll be a fun time.
