Have you looked in to Felisfire? It's based around felines, and it's geared toward a more mature audience. You don't have to pay to play, like some games - plenty of users get by without purchasing the special currency at all. You start out with 6 eggs of the common/first species on the game (three males and three females) to design and customize for yourself. The community is welcoming and helpful.
