pets that have no special demand or worth are often traded by the three month rule, which basically says that trading pets of the same rarity and species is fair when they are within three months of each other's release.
in your case for example, trading your rare june 2010 butterfly wolf for a rare april 2010 bw would be just as fair as trading it for a rare september 2010 bw.
