Reindeer are semi-domesticated caribou, basically. So, tonight's deer are reindeer, no doubt.

The subspecies in North America are called caribou and were never domesticated the way the subspecies in Eurasia have been. But it's essentially the same animal, they don't really look different.

I didn’t say they weren’t reindeer, just not regular deer lol. Also, where’d you get that info? That’s pretty cool. I might do some research on them. Regardless, it could still be either since they’re so close. Only way to know is to ask the artist. I really like them.

I honestly think these deer look better than the original lineart. Their features stand out more, they have clear split hooves (while in the original the hooves look almost like these of very thin, fragile horses), and I adore their goofy faces.

Yes! The artist made them look very much like caribou/reindeer while still keeping the character of the original line art. Very well done!
