As Dec 18 turns around the corner, a lot of stress and chaos comes with it. With so many people online trying to adopt their pets, it lags the site and can be strenuous on some people, especially those who stayed up late. Accompanying the site lag, there can also be disappointment from the pets. Tears, anger, frustration and anxiety are many things I have seen on Dec 18. However these can all be prevented.
First off, what is Dec 18, to clear it up for some new members and returning old ones.
Chicken Smoothie Help: Pets and adopting wrote:What happens on December 18th?
Every year on December 18th we put up a special giftbox which contains just about every old/rare pet ever released on Chicken Smoothie. Each member can adopt just a few random pets from this box. Mixed in with all the old "previously released" pets there are a couple of brand new pets hiding each year. Members are guaranteed to get something rare from this box, so people get very excited about it. Read more about "UR" and "true date" pets for more info.
Now, please be aware that when you adopt your pets, not all of them will be lists, omgsr, old vrs. Some may be just a recent but old rare. So this can be a reason of why some people can feel a lot of frustration and despair. But using this, it may release some of that tension. It was summed up very well by Dawnslight, who I hope wonโt mind me quoting them.
Dawnslight wrote:a tip for all of you adopting from the box for the first time; go in with low expectations but be excited! you're still getting really good pets even if it's not a UR. :>
This doesnโt have to mean just new members, but can benefit everyone. If you go in with a low expectation, then you wonโt come crashing down as badly if you donโt get a good pet as much as going in highly expecting a good pet then not getting a pet.
Again this can be summed up by wigsnatched and Kira Nightblade
Kira Nightblade wrote:wigsnatched wrote:just a reminder to those who don't get the pets they wanted,
christmas is just around the corner and you'll be spending time with your friends and family, so please try not to stress over the digital pets your getting <3
Agreed! And a rare is a rare, and you're getting it for free, even if you don't have the best luck ^.^
Though you may feel anger at not getting a good pet, a rare is indeed a rare, which is much better than an uncommon and it is free. There will be a lot of victories for some, and losses of others so donโt feel like youโre the only one who got bad pets.
Also a side note, if you did get the short straw no luck in the draw, donโt take the negativity out on those who may have won their own small lottery. It is all based on an RNG chance, so they are feeling on top of the world. It is self care, but also looking out for others. Donโt bring them down because they may have something better.
This goes for those who got good pets. Please donโt brag to others who didnโt get as good of a selection as you. Theyโre already kind of bummed about it, so donโt tear them down any further. Again, self care and care for others.
Now, some self care tips on how to stay sane during the final countdowns to Dec 18
SLEEP
This is so unbelievably important. Without enough sleep, you can feel grouchy, grumpy, upset, a whole range of emotions. Now pair this with a disappointing batch of Dec 18 pets, and itโs not a good mix.
December 18 will rollover at midnight cs time. This can be followed using this link here.
CS TIMEThough, many of us live in different timezones to this. It may mean some of us it is during the day, midway through the morning, after dinner, but for quite a number of people it rollovers at night. This can be from 12AM, to 4AM, a good time you should be asleep.
December 18, though it is so hyped up due to the rare pets, it is still like other advent calendar days. You adopt your pet from the box that stays for 24 hours until rollover to Dec 19. Please donโt feel the need to stay up late for the rollover time because again, you may not get the pets youโd like and would feel disappointed and frustrated that you stayed up till 3AM waiting for rollover, to just receive a few rares and not get any sleep. We donโt want you to feel miserable all day because you stayed up late for a disappointing number of pets. It stays for 24 hours, so get the sleep you need because it will still be there in the morning.
Also because of the demand, a lot of people tend to come online right at rollover time (last year I believe the record was 6116 users online right on rollover), so the site becomes extremely lagged and may crash. It could take up to 30 minutes to be able to adopt, so itโs best to sleep until the morning where it will be fixed and easier to adopt, rather than lying in bed frantically refreshing the page.
STRESS
In the final countdown I am sure many of us feel stressed.
Maybe we wonโt get good pets? What if I forget? The tension is building inside of me and I canโt wait for rollover.
Again, rest assured, the box will be there for 24 hours so donโt feel you have to rush to adopt. It is RNG, random, chanced, and will still be there 6-7 hours after the rollover.
Perhaps you may just be impatient and anxious in the final hour till rollover, I know I certainly am. But we can lessen this tension by doing some activities to take our minds off of it. If any of these activities from the list takes your fancy then give them a go! You may lose track of time however, so be sure to set an alarm for a few minutes before rollover.

Donโt forget to set a timer if you do happen to do any of these, to reiterate the CS Rollover is midnight CS time which can be viewed on this link
CS TIME'THE LAG'
Many users are looking forward to Dec 18 if you hadnโt noticed by the threads, so many will be online at the same time. The extreme number of users online right at rollover cause Chicken Smoothie to lag, perhaps even crash the server. This is why many users will be posting about the lag. It is rather frustrating, especially for someone who hasnโt had enough sleep.
There are no ways to avoid the lag, but you can get around it using the famous sleeping method. Set a timer for perhaps 6 hours from rollover, or whenever it is morning for all you night owls, and sleep past rollover. The site may have quietened down slightly by then and there will be less lag thanks to the awesome staff, and lesser amounts of users.
I hope that a few of these self care tips may help you in the countdown to Dec 18
Please, donโt stress. Itโs a RNG advent box that is there for 24 hours, so donโt rush, strain yourself, or injure yourself to get to it right on rollover. I know that previously Iโve had headaches from doing this, and I donโt want anyone else having the same issue
Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated, have a few snacks and get the right sleep everyone! Please enjoy yourself this years Dec 18!
