The problem with complicated storylines is that it's very confusing to people who come in late. I remember missed most of the Egypt event, and even with the limited story there was, it was hard for me to figure out what happened. Anything more than we already have, and people would be completely lost.
Shallow stories may be beneficial to those who join late, but it is not very enjoyable for those that came in at the beginning. If you missed the beginning, chances are you will be lost the rest of the way anyways. It was constantly asked how you get this pet or that pet. Not from a complicated story, but for a complicated token system that had to change three times to get certain pets. A complex story doesn't really affect adoptions since its just mind food.
Also what I was talking about was more engaging points during the event. Space had only one climax. The broken tower...
It should have had three main draws.
The first being the tower. The second could be some sort of problem on an alien planet we had to participate in to "rescue" them and unlock the last part of the alien world. The third would be a finale with all CS involved in some sort of celebration with a final adopt at the end. Then we go home.
Three high points is more memorable than one. And its not hard to follow three things that happened the whole event. The added features I am thinking of are really just time killing bonuses. Like building a hut to rescue stray aliens. You could peer at a wall and see names on bricks used to construct the shelter. So you were rewarded by building three times. You built that shelter, your name is on it, and you can adopt alien pets in the end. Much more interesting than revisiting a place and just adopting a new pet.
