Putting the eggs on a pet is the best idea. It prevents people from trading for them, and you can trade them directly for event pets, no need to take them off whatever pet you have them on.

I am worried that I won't be able to gather enough eggs to get the two bunnies before they disappear. I was at school until 11PM due to a play and have to perform again tomorrow D :
This is my first easter event and I wish I had free time to participate. All the bunnies look so cute! Do chickens typically get offered for this event or is it just bunnies?

Don't worry, this isn't like Christmas. The pets will remain for the entire event, which will last at least until Easter (the 27th this year).

we usually get other things than just buns for easter, but bunnies are the main attraction~

It's not just bunnies. Usually there are chicks, I'd think, because of the association between chicks and Easter Day, although that doesn't guarantee that there will be chicks.

I'm pretty sure that the token pets don't disappear after just one day. They remain for the duration of the event.
