I've had this happen to me a good 4+ times. I'm glad I decided to do a 3rd set because I was getting extras after extras after extras P:

And then there's us who have reached the limit. What are we supposed to do now? We can't hoard tokens unless we're willing to trade for them.

All we can do is sit and wait...

+ People like me (I'm sure there're some more) who didn't reach the limit yet, but are quite bored and don't collect tokens anymore as I have all the pets I want and don't really see the point of getting more tokens at the moment.

You might want to start collecting. The new places, if they require tokens, will likely use the same tokens, so you'd be ahead of the game collecting tokens.

Yeah, I'm aware of that, but can't convince myself to more active collecting, especially I'm collecting on my friends' accounts as well as they're on holidays and it's REALLY tiring and taking a lot of time.

Finally!!! I did it!!! I got it! I decided to trade in my rats thinking, eh, what's the worst that could happen? An I got the doggie I was looking for! Now, if only I can snare the nightmare lion, I'll be done!
