➵ Luca Silverbrook

Postby SunnyJustice » Mon Jul 27, 2020 7:13 pm

← Previous (N/A)
← Back to Capitol
--ImageImage
Luca Silverbrook
the president

Full name: "Please call me President Luca." She prefers not to use her surname.
Gender: "Excuse me? I am a woman."
Sexuality: "Oh, don't be ridiculous. I am far too old for you, and not to mention married."
Role: "You don't recognize your president?" Luca is the tyrannical dictator who oversees Panem.
Age: "Enough with these disrespectful questions." She is in her seventies.

Voice type: Mezzo-soprano
Appearance: Luca is a petite old lady who stands at 5'1". Age shows in her gaunt cheekbones, almost skeletal hands, and milk-white hair falling to her shoulders in thin waves. The ruthless determination in her icy blue eyes has only grown more intense with the years. She rarely smiles, but occasionally her severe expression will soften to show hints of a kinder time.
Personality: "Since I was a young lass, my defining trait has been determination. It served me well through my days in the military. When my son was born... Gabriel... ah, where was I dear? You wanted a cookie?" The merciless president rules with an iron fist. She is quick to threaten the death penalty upon dissenters, and prefers to inflict said punishments with her own blade.
Occasionally, she appears to slip into a deranged state of trying to mother everyone. These episodes are triggered when someone reminds her of her lost child. Luca will coddle them with maternal affection, seeming to believe they are Gabriel. She doesn't seem to acknowledge the Hunger Games' existence in this state. As for Gabriel's death, she refuses to accept it in any state.

Partner: "Cookies it is!" Luca's ex-husband, Donovan, lived in District One. The two parted on good terms. Even when they met on the battlefield during the Dark Days, they were nothing but amicable. He sadly passed away a few years after Gabriel's death.

Alignment: Neutral evil (president) / True neutral (motherly)
Weapon of choice: "Oh, poor dear. Children should not be handling weapons. What's that about the 'Hunger Games'? Oh, that sounds silly! Don't make up stories like that to scare your poor mother!" She's wielded swords since childhood.
Skills: "Origami, don't you remember folding cranes together? You used to love them!" In her prime, Luca was a sharp-minded strategist with impeccable instincts in combat. Her small size made enemies underestimate her, but it would be their final, fatal mistake. She knew multiple ways to end others with her bare hands alone. Nowadays, her metaphorical claws have dulled with age. At the moment her greatest 'talent' is deluding herself.
Fatal flaw: "You need a hug? Come here, baby. Oh dear, you've gotten so tall that mum can't pick you up anymore. Oh well! You'll never be too big for hugs and cookies." Her child is her greatest weakness. Bringing back suppressed memories of her son, Gabriel, would have unpredictable consequences. She's also admittedly terrible at running a country. "President" is almost an empty name with her occupying it, and her subordinates run the show.

Luca's Relationships
Feelings: | ♡ romantic | ✿ very positive | ✓ positive | ▣ neutral | ✘ negative

【 ♡ 】 Donovan: Big huggable pushover. Luca still loves him and considers him her husband.
【 ♡ 】 Alma: During the Dark Days, Luca had a little crush on her biggest rival in battle.
【 ✿ 】 Gabriel: Luca's beloved son. He was everything to her, and she refuses to accept his death.
【 ▣ 】 Angelo: Luca adopted this child as a replacement for Gabriel, even calls him by her old son's name...
【 ✘ 】 Alton: The old president who she assassinated and erased from history. He is responsible for Gabriel's fate.

➵ Roxanne Hunter

Postby SunnyJustice » Tue Jul 28, 2020 9:37 am

--ImageImage
Roxanne Hunter
the head trainer

Full name: "Hi, call me Roxanne!"
Gender: "I'm a lady." Roxanne is a trans woman. Her pronouns are she/her.
Sexuality: "I swing both ways, like with a sword." Roxanne is bisexual and has no gender preference. Female, male, nonbinary, they're all beautiful to her. All that matters is their fighting spirit and personality.
Role: "I grew up in District Four, but moved to the Capitol to intern at the Training Center. I became Head Trainer when I was twenty." Roxanne spent her childhood training as a Career Tribute back home. When graduation arrived before the 15th Games, she faced her best friends Solstyss and Mircea in a decisive match and lost. Those two were the tributes of District Four that year, but never came home.
Roxanne soon moved to the Capitol where both her dads lived. She'd been offered an internship at the Training Center. After a couple years of hard work, she became Head Trainer at the time of the 17th Games, when Icarus Matthias made his debut. He noticed her struggle and offered some Career-brand encouragement. It helped a lot, actually. Roxanne was happy when he won.

Age: "I'm in my twenties now."

Voice type: Alto
Appearance: Roxanne stands at 5'8" with an athletic, graceful figure. Her light brown skin glows with a healthy copper undertone. Dark brown hair falls to her mid-back, often tied back in a low ponytail. She has a soft face, so her stormy grey eyes stand out.
Personality: "I'd like to think I'm calm and agreeable. I'm still working on my leadership skills, but I do my best." Born and raised in District Four, Roxanne shares the good-natured personality and love for honorable combat. She's all about teamwork and kinship. It makes her smile to watch tributes making friends, especially the Careers. A part of Roxanne wishes her initials were on their plaque too.
Crush: "I'm more focused on my job right now." Roxanne has a small crush on Icarus Matthias, the mentor from District Two.

Alignment: Lawful neutral
Weapon of choice: "I love swords of any type." Roxanne always struggled when wielding tridents, but she made up for it with excellent swordsmanship. She's rather flexible with the size and shape of the swords.
Skills: "It's probably easiest if I just demonstrate." She's determined, sharp-minded, and quick on her feet: the perfect combination for a swordswoman. Attempting in vain to use a trident only stifled her talent, and when she switched to swords the difference immediately became apparent.
Fatal flaw: "Hmm, I'm not the best at being observant. Little details just fly over my head." She communicates best when everyone is direct with their intentions. Passive-aggressive, subtle gestures often go unnoticed by her.

Roxanne's Relationships
Feelings: | ♡ romantic | ✿ very positive | ✓ positive | ▣ neutral | ✘ negative

【 ✿ 】 Mircea: Roxanne's best friend from the Career Club who went away to the Games.
【 ✿ 】 Solstyss: Roxanne's other best friend from the Career Club. She misses Mircea and Solstyss dearly.
【 ▣ 】 Camilla: Roxanne and Camilla have many clashing views, but they try to be civil with each other.
【 ✓ 】 Octavius: The announcer can be loud and obnoxious, but overall Roxanne gets along with him.
【 ♡ 】 Icarus: Roxanne has some feelings for her friend and sparring partner, the mentor of District Two.

➵ Camilla Ignatius

Postby SunnyJustice » Sun Dec 13, 2020 6:12 pm

ImageImage-
Camilla Ignatius
the head gamemaker

Full name: "My name is Camilla Ignatius."
Gender: "Incredibly rude." Camilla is female.
Sexuality: "I refuse to answer any more of these disrespectful questions." She's never labelled herself but is currently married to a lovely lady. Luna is the love of Camilla's life, the only person who can bring out her old self.
Role: "Still out of line, but a little more reasonable. I'm the Head Gamemaker." Camilla was born in District Three. Before the Dark Days, all citizens were allowed to travel between districts, so she spent her youthful years seeing the world. She eventually married a District One woman named Luna and settled down to start a family. They became the mothers to a beautiful baby, Laelia.
When the Hunger Games was created, Camilla hacked into the Capitol network to apply for a Gamemaker role. The Head Gamemaker just laughed at her antics and sent Peacekeepers to smuggle her to the Capitol. She became his favorite recruit from that point on. Camilla rose through the ranks with ease, and when the old Head Gamemaker retired, he named her his replacement.

Age: "Back to the prying questions, I see." Camilla is in her forties.

Voice type: Mezzo-soprano
Appearance: Camilla stands at 5'5" with a slim hourglass figure. Fiery orange hair flows to her waist in a thick cascade, and a light dappling of freckles brings life to her fair complexion. Sharp hazel eyes stare out at the world, analyzing every detail. Her beauty led to others recommending a different career path in her youth, like modelling, but Camilla was offended at these suggestions. She'd rather succeed on her own merit than let physical appearance carry her to high status.
Personality: "I tend to hold grudges. Although I have a soft side, few are able to see it." Camilla is calm and composed, but in a coldly analytical way. She's able to have a business conversation with even her most despised enemies. Even as she seethes with hatred inside, she can hide it perfectly, to the point where even her closest loved ones have no clue how she's feeling. Camilla will spend years bottling up her rage until it's the perfect moment to take revenge. She doesn't show emotion or vulnerability in front of anyone - except for her wife. Luna is the only living person to whom Camilla shows a different side of herself; gentle, warm, and honest.
Partner: "My wife, Luna." Camilla's wife lives in the Capitol now, illegally smuggled over despite laws against inter-district travel. Their old District One home brought up too many painful memories. After Camilla retires in the far future, they plan to move to District Three.

Alignment: Neutral evil
Weapon of choice: "If I were a tribute, I would choose archery."
Skills: "I'll pass." Camilla has extensive technological and psychological knowledge from her academic background. Of course, understanding psychology doesn't mean she is any more compassionate or open-minded towards others. She just uses it to further manipulate and destroy her targets.
Fatal flaw: "I suppose it is typical of you to finish with another prying question." Her family. Before the Dark Days and subsequent rise of the Hunger Games, Camilla was a young woman who loved to travel all over Panem. She met her wife in District One, and there they decided to start a family. Laelia was born a few years later.
When the Hunger Games began, Laelia enrolled in the Career Academy by her own choice - she wanted to protect District One's children. Camilla supported this decision as her brilliant daughter had a winning spirit. By the time Laelia volunteered at the prodigious age of seventeen, Camilla had alredy become the Head Gamemaker. She designed an arena shrouded in darkness to confound everyone except her dear Laelia, whose keen silver eyes could see better in the dark than anyone else. Even if Camilla's manipulation was discovered and punished, she wouldn't care. Luna and Laelia mattered more than anything in her world.
She prepared a victory feast in advance, cooking hearty Capitol dishes by hand. She'd just taken the meatloaf out of the oven when it happened - one tribute leapt out of a hidden alcove to fatally slash Laelia with a knife. All Camilla could do was stare in horror as her wounded daughter sank to her knees. Laelia's ally, Anise, brought her into a protective embrace - but she couldn't be saved.
The plate dropped to the floor where it shattered uselessly. It didn't matter. She'd cooked these dishes for a feast that would never begin, for a daughter who would never come home. Camilla turned away as Anise and Laelia exchanged their last words to each other, unable to watch what she knew would come next. Her daughter's cannon fired a moment later.

After Laelia's death, something changed in Camilla. The once bright and gentle lady turned into a cold, bitter monster, full of hatred at the world. She hated the Hunger Games for taking her child away, she hated the Career Academy for allowing Laelia to sacrifice herself, she even hated Anise and deemed her a traitor. Above all, Camilla hated herself for not being able to save her beloved daughter. If only she'd done something different. Anything, she'd do anything to have her little star back by her side.
Camilla refused to return to the District One home. All their happy memories of baby Laelia were there, buried in dusty photographs and sheets to never be slept in again. It was too much to bear. After a long talk, she and her wife decided to permanently move to the Capitol. Using her privilege as Head Gamemaker, Camilla sent Peacekeepers to help Luna move house.
Nowadays, Camilla is only herself when she's alone with her beloved wife. She is calm but curt with others, showing no emotion but contempt. Her grudges may express themselves in her work, but no one can confirm it. Since Careers usually grow up on a healthier diet, mutts have always preferred to hunt them over underfed tributes. Camilla took this trait and exaggerated it into a genetic predisposition to hunt all Careers above all non-Careers. When questioned, she called this choice 'fairness towards non-Careers'.

Camilla's Relationships
Feelings: | ♡ romantic | ✿ very positive | ✓ positive | ▣ neutral | ✘ negative

【 ✘ 】 Roxanne: Camilla despises Roxanne, but acts civil on the surface. No use starting a fight.
【 ✘ 】 Octavius: He's loud and irritating. Camilla finds him downright disrespectful.
【 ♡ 】 Luna: Camilla's beloved wife. Luna is all that matters in the world anymore.
【 ✿ 】 Laelia: Camilla misses her little star dearly and blames herself for her death.
【 ✘ 】 Anise: The amount of hatred Camilla holds for Anise is indescribable.

➵ Octavius Terrell

Postby SunnyJustice » Sun Dec 13, 2020 7:43 pm

ImageImage--
Octavius Terrell
announcer and interviewer

Full name: "Octavius Terrell, but feel free to call me Octave."
Gender: "I'm a guy. I'll take it as a compliment that I look fabulous!"
Sexuality: "I mostly like women, but others can catch my eye too. Case in point: Maverick."
Role: "Many. I'm the official announcer for the Hunger Games, and I also conduct all the interviews. Aren't I important?" Although he's annoying and doesn't understand social boundaries, Octavius makes a genuine effort to help tributes out during the interview. He ignores their mistakes and plays up their awkward efforts.
Age: "Fresh out of college!" He never went to college, but he's in his twenties.

Voice type: Baritone
Appearance: Octavius stands at a fairly tall 5'10", though he's noticed the districts tend to see his height differently. District Four boys consider him very tall, while District Three and Seven boys think he's short. He himself likes to think of himself as the big dog on campus, an image helped by his broad shoulders and heavyset figure. Octavius sports messy, almost spiky dark blonde hair, bold blue eyes, and a naturally tanned complexion. You'll hear no shortage of his boasting about being too hot for tanning beds.
Personality: "Oh, I have an ego. But who wouldn't in my position?" Octavius is loud, bold, and likes to boast about everything. Mostly his tributes. He sees them all as celebrities, even the ones who are terrified of the Hunger Games. Although he doesn't mean any harm on purpose, he has a tendency to annoy and offend the districts' citizens by accident. Octavius communicates in a dramatic and shallow way that's best suited for Capitol audiences, not the starving masses oppressed by structural injustice.
Crush: "Oh, that Maverick is cute. He doesn't notice me though. Any advice?"

Alignment: Chaotic neutral
Weapon of choice: "My dazzling beauty!" He has no idea how to fight. If someone attacked him, he'd probably throw a heavy-but-inaccurate punch and miss by a mile.
Skills: "I sure got a lot of those!" His confidence is his greatest skill. He's also physically tough for a privileged Capitolite, even though he rarely goes to the gym. Being sturdy and big-boned just runs in the family.
Fatal flaw: "I just can't shut up. One of these days I'm going to get murdered!" Octavius doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. He says whatever he wants, even in front of a furious Career Tribute who could snap his neck like a twig.

Octavius's Relationships
Feelings: | ♡ romantic | ✿ very positive | ✓ positive | ▣ neutral | ✘ negative

【 ✓ 】 Roxanne: Octavius thinks she's cool, even though they don't have a lot in common.
【 ✘ 】 Camilla: She might look fabulous, but she sure ain't a star.
【 ♡ 】 Maverick: Octavius has a huge crush on the upbeat mentor from District Twelve.

➵ Alton Trumbald

Postby SunnyJustice » Sun Dec 13, 2020 8:50 pm

ImageImage---
Alton Trumbald
former president

Full name: "Alton Trumbald. That filth Luca erased my name from history." He deserved what he got. The red, blue, and white shards of broken glass in his picture are the shattered remains of democracy after he destroyed it.
Gender: "You disgust me." He is male.
Sexuality: "Filth." Heterosexual.
Role: "I was the first President of Panem. It was I who created the Hunger Games." President Alton took power long before the uprising started. He gave himself absolute power and abolished all concepts of democracy, such as voting and civil rights. With citizens' voices eroded to silence, he encroached on the districts, stealing their livelihood for his own financial gain. District Thirteen led an uprising against the now-tyrannical Capitol, but Alton crushed the rebellion with every dirty trick up his sleeve. He used the Dark Days as an excuse to create an even more oppressive regime where the Capitol held absolute and total power. The slightest shred of equality was long gone.
Alton created the Hunger Games to punish the districts for daring to demand civil rights, but there was another reason. One loose end still remained. Vice-President Luca, his right-hand woman, was too powerful and popular. He had to break her spirit so she'd leave office of her own accord. Alton lied to her, saying the Hunger Games would be held with death row criminals who voluntarily signed up to fight. Poor Luca only discovered the truth when her precious son was 'mysteriously' reaped as the first tribute.

Age: "Murdered by that filth at the young age of seventy."

Voice type: Bass
Appearance: Alton has a large presence, broad-shouldered and imposing at a height of 6'4". He has a square jaw that looks like a perfect punching target. Arrogant blue eyes are always half-lidded, like he's bored of the peasants milling about under his feet. A perpetual sunburn seems to stretch across his face like a mask that never peels. No one knows whether his sewer-water hair is blonde or grey.
Personality: "Respect goes both ways." By that, Alton means you need to treat him like a king before he even considers treating you like a human. He laughs at concepts of equality and justice, calling them the 'false hope of the weak'. Wealth and power are all that matter to him. No matter how much he has, he is never satisfied, so he's quick to exploit suffering citizens for his own gain. Alton shows no compassion towards them because mercy is for the weak. The strong take what they want, when they want.
Partner: "I have no time for women." Women have no tolerance for him.

Alignment: Chaotic evil
Weapon of choice: "I don't even need to lift my finger." Physical fights are beneath him.
Skills: "Ha." In his heyday, he was a master of charisma and political manipulation. No one caught on until he'd already turned Panem into a dictatorship under the guise of 'protecting the people'. Then he revealed his true colors, showing a vile and greed-consumed personality that horrified the now-helpless population.
Fatal flaw: "Nothing. As the rightful president, no one can touch me." Alton's arrogance cost him his life. He tried to emotionally destroy Vice-President Luca via sabotage, sending her beloved child Gabriel into the Hunger Games. It seemed to be working at first, she begged him to reconsider, and he of course mocked her mercilessly. But Luca dared to resist fate. That brat tried to help Gabriel win the Games, and Alton knew he had to assert his power. He forced the Gamemakers to send mutts into the arena with one mission: Kill Gabriel's beloved district partner but leave him alive, just barely, so he could die a slow and lingering death. A fittingly pathetic end for the son of Luca.
The morning after Gabriel's death, Luca broke into Alton's office, deranged with anger. He laughed in the little woman's face and dismissed her grievances as a waste of time. Something seemed to snap in Luca and she lunged, slamming him against the cabinet with surprising force. Alton could barely fight back as she beat him up without mercy. He called for the Peacekeepers, but no one came.
That day, ex-President Alton's body was found on the concrete below his balcony. No one spoke of his death. In fact, no one ever acknowledged he existed. The new President Luca ordered all mentions of Alton Trumbald to be silenced and erased forever.

Alton’s Relationships
Feelings: | ♡ romantic | ✿ very positive | ✓ positive | ▣ neutral | ✘ negative

【 ✘ 】 Luca: Alton's greatest political rival. There was no limit for what he'd do to hurt her.
【 ▣ 】 Gabriel: Alton has nothing against Luca's child, but Gabriel had to die to break his mother's spirit.

➵ Licaria Ryu

Licaria Ryu
the curious mentor
Career & Victor of the 19th Hunger Games

Full name: "Hi there! You can call me Ms. Licaria."
Gender: "Do I count as a woman yet?"
Sexuality: "Gender doesn't really matter to me." She is attracted to anyone smart.
District: Licaria is the mentor for District One. It's hard for her students to understand her, though.
Age: "I'm the youngest mentor. I still have a lot to learn!" As a prodigy, she won the games at sixteen.

Voice type: Alto
Appearance: Licaria is small for a Career Tribute, built lean and angular at a height of 5'1". Her dark hair, short and spiky in a faux mohawk, adds the impression of much-needed height. She has a warm golden complexion and dark brown eyes that glitter with curiosity. For someone of her size, she has a surprisingly deep voice.
Personality: "Fascinating! Are you a fan of those 'personality tests' developed by the Capitol? Let me acquaint you! Here's the 'Which Victor Are You' test, designed by the Head Gamemaker herself. Might be a little unscientific though." Curious and upbeat, Licaria is always ready to discover new things. Every opportunity is a learning opportunity. The only things she never learns are social norms... despite studying others' cultures and behavior often, Licaria has no idea how to actually act. She's terribly out of touch with her emotions, often burying them with a random info-dump of unrelated facts. Her behaviors come off as weird to Careers and Non-Careers alike. Thankfully, her eccentric personality is much loved in the Capitol!
Crush: "Oooh, let me get my notes!" Maybe in the future...

Alliance: "I was a Career! Well, I still am. Isn't it fascinating? I'm not even in the arena anymore, and I still miss... haha..." Her allies were Bernadette and Eric of District Two, Justine and Mason of District Four, and her beloved district partner Valesska.
Reaped or volunteered: "I was allowed to volunteer early, at sixteen. And I showed the Academy they were right to believe in me!" During Licaria's final exam at the Career Academy, she killed a mutt easily ten times her size. She then asked to take it apart and see how it worked. Sadly, her request was denied by the exasperated staff.
Parade outfit: Licaria was dressed like an archaeologist's elaborate gem display. Racks of precious jewels dangled from her shoulders, from rubies to shining diamonds.
Interview angle: "Umm... I think I asked more questions than I answered. Sorry! The Capitol is just so fascinating." Licaria presented herself to Panem as the inquisitive, perky little Career she was. She got so engaged in the interview.

Alignment: Chaotic neutral
Weapon of choice: "Science!" Licaria used weapons that could keep enemies at bay, mostly spears and throwing knives. She wanted to experiment with poisons but never got the chance.
Skills: "Do weird facts count?" As one of District One's smallest-ever tributes, Licaria specialized in agility and technical knowledge to give herself a little niche. Navigation and scouting are some of her strong suits. In a battle, she tries to evade her opponents' blows until the chance arises to swiftly take them out.
Fatal flaw: "Well, people call me nosy and I suppose that's true. I just can't stand the feeling of not knowing something!" Licaria is curious to a ridiculous extent. This almost got her killed so many times! But she doesn't care, knowledge is worth the risk to her.

Mentor: "I learned from the best!" Licaria's mentor was Sycamore Jin, victor of the 15th Games.
Training score: "I got an 8! I love that number, it’s so symmetrical." Gamemakers found her interesting, but didn’t expect her to make it far as the other Careers.
Victory: "Um... Oh! Did I ever tell you about the psychological phenomenon of silver medalists? They’re always less happy than Bronze, since Silver's final memory is losing to Gold... Ah... Let's talk about something else." Licaria's Games featured a misty jungle arena, not the most ideal for Careers. Too many opportunities for others to sneak up on them. As a result, the alliance had a rough start with both District Four tributes dying early. On the night after the bloodbath, an ambush claimed Justine's life. The other Careers chased down the offending tribute and let Justine's district partner, Mason, do the honors. But the dying District Eight tribute lashed out and nicked his ankle with a weapon. The cut seemed small, but Mason didn't wake up the next morning. Poison had taken him in the night.
At least they'd taken care of the ambushing tribute. Upon finding a nice campsite, the Careers settled down and built themselves a little wooden shelter. The District Two tributes volunteered to take first watch, so Licaria and Valesska went inside to finally sleep.

They woke to an inhuman cry of rage. Both Careers scrambled out of the shelter, only to see Bernadette holding Eric's lifeless body. Another tribute's throwing knife protruded from his back. The grieving Bernadette told them which direction it came from, and the three remaining Careers set out on a hunt. Bernadette led the way, slicing through the undergrowth, fuelled by rage at her district partner's death.
They found the culprit crossing a bridge. It was a tribute named Leonas, but he'd soon earn the nickname "Leonas the Lunatic". He turned to the Careers and smiled, then continued to stroll across the rope bridge.
Licaria's eyes widened at the sight. Old, moldy wooden planks barely held together by shreds of fraying rope. She tried to warn the others, but Bernadette's anger blinded her to reason. The District Two girl charged across the bridge in hot pursuit of her foe. The planks splintered under her feet, sending her plunging to certain death. Licaria heard a faint laugh as Leonas made his escape.

Back at camp, Licaria and Valesska ignored the announcement about the feast. Their priorities lay elsewhere: taking down Leonas. As the camp was already compromised, the Career duo gathered their belongings and left forever.
The Careers confronted their enemy days later, after two more cannons had fired. Now Licaria, Valesska and Leonas were the only tributes remaining. Leonas smiled at them from the trees, then dropped a few objects on them and left. Licaria knelt down to examine what he'd thrown. A pebble necklace, a silver pin, a tiny wooden totem... these were other tributes' tokens.
As Licaria identified the necklace as Bernadette's, somehow recovered from that ravine, her eyebrows rose in morbid curiosity. Did Leonas kill the last two tributes too? Not wanting to become the next trophies, Licaria and Valesska decided to beat him at his own game.

After forming a plan, both Careers pursued their quarry with what appeared to be blind determination. They feigned exhaustion and soon set up camp for the night. Licaria, the smaller of the two, would take watch. She put on a convincing display of nodding off, eyelids drooping lower and lower. The perfect target for a sudden attack.
A sudden rustle from above was the cue. Licaria rolled to the side, just in time to avoid a slash from Leonas's knife. He'd leaped down from the trees above. Now caught in the open clearing, he turned to run - and ran straight into Valesska's waiting blade.
Before his cannon fired, the dying tribute smiled at his killers.
"Well played."

Now that only two remained, Licaria wrapped her arms around Valesska in one last hug. It was so warm. She didn't want to let go, but there was no other choice. They knew the rules the moment they made their choice to become Careers.
Once both District One tributes had prepared themselves as well as they could, the final fight of the 19th Hunger Games commenced. Valesska quickly gained the upper hand. Licaria, an evasive fighter who thrived on keeping her enemies at bay, now struggled in close quarters against a friend twice her strength. All seemed lost for her, but she was adamant to give her all. A forfeit was not the determined little Career's style. She'd rather spend her final moments locked in honorable battle against her favorite classmate.
Then, inexplicably, her ever-inquisitive eyes saw an opening. Licaria took the opportunity and struck down with her knife. Her eyes closed as the blade connected - and when they opened, Valesska lay dying at her feet. Licaria fell to her knees beside her friend.
She had no clue why, but salt water blurred her vision and fell in droplets down her cheeks.
"It's just like our final exam, isn't it?" Licaria said, managing a smile. "But don't worry. You passed with flying colors. To me, you'll always have an A."
The sound of cannon fire sent unbearable pain through Licaria's heart, but she had no way of understanding these feelings.

➵ Icarus Matthias

Postby SunnyJustice » Mon Dec 14, 2020 6:56 am

ImageImage----
Icarus Matthias
the honorable mentor
Career & Victor of the 17th Hunger Games

Full name: "Icarus Matthias." He chose his first name to symbolize his honor and determination. Just as the mythical Icarus died flying too close to the sun, Icarus of District Two is willing to put his life on the line for his principles.
Gender: "They call me Career dad." He's a trans man.
Sexuality: "Not interested." Icarus is demisexual- he wants a strong bond first. Preferably one forged in the fires of battle.
District: "I'm the mentor for District Two." His direct and forward way of speaking is a little rude by Non-Career standards. But many Careers tend to take things literally, so directness is good for them.
Age: "I won the Hunger Games at eighteen. Now I'm in my twenties."

Voice type: Baritone
Appearance: Icarus resembles the stereotypical Career, standing at 6'1" with a physically imposing stature. He is muscular and scarred after a life of close-combat training in District Two. Stone-grey eyes stare out from underneath stern brows, adding to his unfriendly appearance. His brown hair is kept neatly cropped so it doesn't get in the way. Icarus hates to waste time on hair, except facial hair...
Despite his efforts, Icarus has only managed to grow sparse stubble on his upper lip and chin. It's starting to frustrate him.

Personality: "I'm not the best person, but I live by the Career's honor. I will never betray you - and I will never tolerate traitors who cross me." Icarus values honor more than anything. He might be grumpy and standoffish, but he refuses to compromise his principles no matter what. He chose his name Icarus as a testimony of his will to remain honorable - flying close to the sun at the risk of death.
He has a deep hatred for malicious liars, torturers, traitors and deserters. But the worst of all are the cowards who bully and torment children. If Icarus encountered these disgraces in District Two, he would not hesitate to end their pathetic lives.

Crush: "I'm not sure." Icarus is starting to develop feelings for his friend, the head trainer Roxanne.

Alliance: "I'm a Career. Always will be, even outside the arena." Icarus' district partner was Erin, the youngest Career Tribute on record at the age of fourteen. They were joined by Astelle and Pax of District One, as well as Kai and Jody of District Four.
Reaped or volunteered: "I volunteered." Thanks to the Careers, the district's children never fear the reaping. Icarus likes that.
Parade outfit: Icarus was made to resemble a statue carved from stone. With his looks, he pulled it off perfectly.
Interview angle: "I was honest." Icarus spoke of honor, swordsmanship, and his love for battle.

Alignment: He is the definition of lawful evil.
Weapon of choice: "I use a sword." The standard, straightforward weapon of District Two suits him well. He's physically strong and resilient enough to handle up-close confrontations.
Skills: "Can I pass on this question." After witnessing Caitlin Slonigar torment all six Careers in the 16th Games, Icarus signed himself up for what's essentially 'boot camp' for District Two field medics. He knows how to save a life - and when one is beyond saving. Others often express surprise upon learning that grumpy Icarus was the team's first-aid captain, or that his only kill in the arena was on a dying tribute he couldn't otherwise save.
Fatal flaw: "My honor itself. Cowards have tried to exploit it." Icarus is obsessed with rules, which can be manipulated to an enemy's favor. It's happened before and ticks him off. But as he refuses to compromise his values, he can't do a thing about it.

Mentor: "My mentor was Lily Brie. She won the 5th Games by killing the coward Richard Banks. So much respect for her."
Training score: "I scored ten." Gamemakers considered him the ideal Career Tribute.
Victory: "... Erin deserved better. She deserved to win, not me." The Careers suffered a tragedy in the bloodbath. Pax of District One was murdered by Tora, but none of his allies witnessed it. Tora herself later approached the alliance, offering to fill the gap left by Pax's absence. The Careers were reluctant at first, but then Tora bested Kai in a duel. She'd shown strength worthy of a Career.
Later in the games, the alliance started to run low on food. Thankfully, the shadowy forest of the arena was home to countless creatures. Tora offered to lead a hunting party with Kai, Jody, and Astelle. She promised they'd be back by nightfall.
Icarus and Erin grew worried as the evening wore on. When the death recap played, they were horrified to see both Kai and Jody in the sky. That's when a muddy, ragged Tora stumbled into camp, eyes wide with horror. Icarus demanded to know what happened. Through tears, Tora claimed the hunting party was ambushed and she was the only survivor, but lost Astelle in the chaos. She led the District Two tributes on a search for their missing ally but found nothing but a bloody mess.

Inexplicably, Astelle dragged herself back to camp the next morning. Icarus and Erin were overjoyed at her return, but Tora was not. Horror flashed across the District Ten girl's face - as if she wasn't expecting Astelle to return. Tora fled into the bushes without a word.
Suspicious, but Erin and Icarus had other priorities. Astelle's injuries were so horrific they should've killed her. It seemed like she'd hung on through spite alone, fuelled by a vengeful determination to bring back some message. Even the beckon of death couldn't silence the truth. As the District Two tributes bandaged Astelle up, she explained what really happened on the so-called hunting trip.

Tora claimed she'd heard a deer - a ruse to distract the other Careers. As soon as they turned their heads, Tora struck from behind, a vicious attack that brought down both Astelle and Jody. As Astelle bled out on the forest floor, she watched the traitor taunt a horrified Kai. All the hope drained out of the District Four tribute's eyes as they knelt beside their allies. After a moment of silence, Kai looked up at Tora and told her to kill them as slowly and painfully as she wanted. Astelle, weak and dying, could only watch it happen.
Tora left all three of them to die. Except, Astelle didn't. Righteous anger blazed through the veins of the once-passive Career, a fury that burned so bright she couldn't die. It took her all night to claw her way back to camp - but here she was.

Icarus was equally impressed by his ally and disappointed in himself. He should've known - and killed Tora while they had the chance. After apologizing for his mistake, he promised they'd hunt her down. Even Astelleinsisted on joining them.
It wasn't long before they found Tora. Pursued by three vengeful ex-allies, she fled through the woods - but her efforts proved useless. She fell off a cliff in her rush to escape. Icarus watched the traitor fall, wishing he'd killed her with his bare hands instead.

The Careers returned to camp and settled down. Sadly for them, more trouble was yet to come. Agonized screams pierced the night while Icarus stood watch. He rushed to investigate, only to find a dying District Eight tribute left behind by a careless murderer. Or perhaps the victim of a mutt. Shaking his head, Icarus drew his sword and approached the fallen tribute. No reason to let them linger.
As Icarus raised his weapon, the tribute's mouth moved in an attempt to speak. A whisper of
"Titus" died on their lips as Icarus plunged the blade into their heart. The cannon fired a minute later - but he had the answers. The boy from Six was behind this atrocity.
The next day, Icarus told his allies what he'd witnessed. They left to hunt Titus at once. After a fruitless day's search, however, they returned to camp to rest for the night. Astelle headed towards the tent - but someone was waiting in there. A flash of blades, a horrified scream, and the District One girl fell to the ground motionless. With a bloodthirsty smile, Titus fled into the night.

Still on edge, Icarus and Erin took a moment to regroup. Embers of the dying campfire cast a dim light across their ruined camp. Even as they spoke, both tributes held their weapons at the ready. Their unpredictable enemy could attack them at any moment.
And they were right - Titus pounced from the bushes a second later. He disappeared back into the forest before either of them could react. Both Careers stared at each other in horror - and that's when Icarus noticed the knife in his district partner's back. He rushed to Erin's aid at once. Clutching his small ally in his arms, he tried everything he could to save her. It didn't work.
As the cannon fired, District Two's hardened warrior wiped tears from his eyes. Erin deserved better than this wretched end.

Icarus didn't hesitate to execute his revenge. Setting down his ally's body, the final Career ventured into the forest with nothing but his sword. Both he and Titus lived by the blade - tonight, one of them would die by the blade.
He finally cornered his foe against a cliff, the same cliff where a certain traitor met her demise. That's when Icarus felt the ground tremble beneath his feet. Great boulders came loose from the cliff looming above, burying Titus underneath an avalanche of stone. Icarus was the victor of the 17th Hunger Games, but not by his own sword. He silently cursed the Gamemakers for not allowing him to kill Titus himself. Even as he left the arena behind, Icarus knew his hunger for vengeance would never be quelled.
