iiindentA chill blew through the air, bringing with it a scent, a familiar scent. The pointed ears of a dog perked and swiveled to-and-fro, listening, sorting through each and every tiny sound to prove its validation. His head tipped back and nose directed into the air, poking his nostrils through a current of scents just above the very tips of his ears. His yellow-orbs brightened with courage, a courage so bright it sparked a fire within and danced gaily in the ebony-darkness. He was almost there.

iiindentKeep on. A voice echoed in the deep chambers of his mind, coaxing him on throughout this journey with an unknown end. You’ll know when you’re there. This voice came to Kronos naturally, or so he thought. He had never heard the voice before himself, but in his current state he believed it merely to be the inner-voice he had long forgotten of, a voice lost in the entanglement of thoughts within. Everyone was known to have this inner-voice themselves, correct? A voice that one hears but does not hear; a voice that carries within them the true emotion of their current state, a voice that speaks out the precise words they would want to say in that moment though they know they simply could not or should not. That voice was this one, the one he distinctly heard now on the wind.

iiindentAround him, towering pines with pale trunks and rigid bark swayed gently, their tops grazing those beside them into the east at the next powerful gust. The rustling of their needles created a soothing music of the night, a night that howled opportunity and excitement. As if to answer his thoughts, another gust, this one stronger than the last, nearly picked up the Dane and carried him along with it, somewhere he did not know of, somewhere into the east. When the earth beneath began to curve upward, and suddenly the trek became more difficult to make, Kronos realized that he was scaling a rather steep hill. Glyfs they had called them back at home, a rare sight to see where he came from. The pines had been so thick and clustered together atop the terrain that he had hardly noticed the change in elevation, until he was starting to pant harder and harder with the more effort it took. Where am I? He suddenly pondered, pausing briefly to glance around his dark surroundings. Nothing, there was only pitch-blackness and the ominous pines in every angle around him. They loomed above, as if taunting him, glaring down with malice.

iiindentThe drive and motive that had guided him before then suddenly disappeared, and the voice that he managed to conjure within vanished with it, almost causing him to feel lonely. The wind that blew the pines became less of a relaxing melody and rather a sinister silence that went on for longer than it needed to. Kronos felt a chill run through his spine. He wasn’t afraid, not particularly, but rather waiting for something terrible to happen in an unnerving anticipation. The further he went, the descent down the hill became far more of a task than anything, for he used twice as much effort to pick his way through the underbrush and avoid losing his hold, thus sending him tumbling down its slope. He mastered the technique of placing one paw on the surface he wanted to use, then resting a quarter of his weight on top of it. This saved him plenty of slips and slides as he went along, calming his initial worries and relaxing his tension. The wind, the rustling, the darkness; it all returned to play its soothing melody.

iiindentEverything seemed to smooth to a halt once more as Kronos neared his way down the glyf and onto the other side, a pulsating rhythm of his heart guiding him onward into the black-abyss. Tall grasses tickled his legs but merely grazed his stomach, not able to reach his looming height. Suddenly, he felt his paw give way, nearly slipping down a hole in the earth! The Dane jumped back, an annoyed snort pushing through his nostrils as he narrowed his gaze down the hole. A rather large hole it was, longer and wider than just a normal hole in the dirt. This hole stretched into a wide ravine, indents of various caves within, stone ledges that formed bridges between the two sides. What a strange sight in the middle of a forest… could it truly be real? That question plagued the dog’s mind for a few seconds or so as he continued to scan the magnificent formation, but that thought left him as well as all of the doubt he may have held onto before. This is where he belonged. A burst of recognition filtered through his veins, a weird sensation he didn’t happen to know the cause of. Something within his complicated-mind wanted him at the place and to stay there. The feeling of home and security washed over him as if he was actually back in his hometown, where he knew he was never welcomed again. And so, in that very spot in the grasses before the ravine, he laid in exhaustion from the endless travel, resting his sore paws.

iiindentWhen the crickets chirped their final song, and the birds began their own tune, a sliver or red peeked over the horizon. “Hello again.” Kronos murmured to the rising orb of fire in the sky. He perched atop a glyf adjacent to the ravines, glaring behind into the forest below, where now that it was light, he could recognize its beauty. “I’ve got a lot to do.” He grumbled in silent reply, then ducked back into the forest for his return.

iiindentHe did, in fact, have a lot to do.

this forest is unlike any other, most definitely. why? because there is a sense of evil that lurks the very premises of it. alth
ough strange activity has calmed down in recent years, there is still a pinch of abnormality within. the spirits of various a-
nimals walk with the living, their souls earthbound. there is no explanation to this, but the resident cats have pieced it all
together as being some sort of religious element. the spirits are relatively harmless, at a physiological standpoint, but psy
chologically? despite being physically healthy, the cats are not exactly that mentally. driven apart by despair and anxiety,
they all seem to suffer from emotional turmoil. but what from though? there is something else out there lurking. ──-───

THE BEAST IN THE GORGE legend says that there is abnormal creature roaming down in a gorge,
one that cuts the forest in two sections──making it impossible to cross to the other part if one
doesn't go through the gorge itself.-the creature, or beast, holds no name, but it is well-known
by those who reside within the forest. said to exceed past the average height of a human, it ex
tends its legs to make it appear taller──also capable of standing on its hind legs like a bear do
es. it has haunting appearance, an appearance that could make someone choke on their own b
reath from one glimpse. its fur is messy and grimy, ripped off on some locations on its body──
sometimes cats say that the flesh of its face was drawn apart to reveal its cracked skull, the si
des of its skull also open and making its teeth always visible──others say that it has a unscarre
d face that is just as equally terrorizing, saliva always dribbling from its chin, almost looking li
ke a really deranged feline. the beast feeds on living and dead animals, scavenging on decayed
carcasses if it really needed to, but most of the time it hunted ──also going after cats when th
ey weren't on high alert. the beast used to be free from the gorge,-though a tale of a cat riskin
g their life to throw it off the cliff and into that abyss──dragging their body off with──is the r
eason why its there today. cats fear that it will come back, so it offers sacrifices to it. ─────

indentationMany people speak of the Big Bang— a supposed natural phenomenon which may have lead to the creation of life as they knew it. They were right. But... only somewhat. The Big Bang was not the beginning of everything.

indentationIt was merely the end of one world's everything.

indentationMars was once nearly identical to earth. But as humanity grew larger, it began to rapidly deteriorate. Its air was stripped of its natural chemicals, its soil was poisoned to mass-produce crops, entire species were slaughtered for sport, and garbage was dumped into every possible crevice Humanity did eventually realize their mistakes, and tried to fix the world, but it was far too broken to be saved. Mars was dying, and humanity's hope of survival with it.

indentationThe ingenuity of scientists saved Martians. Completed in the nick of time, a state-of-the-art ship left the atmosphere only two weeks before the planet imploded. Not a single bull or heifer survived. The only comfort the passengers had was that their brethren had experienced no pain. The Big Bang, as they called it, happened in the blink of an eye. One moment they were present, the next they were not.

indentationAKAHIKO was one of the lucky ones. Via a one in three billion chance, he had been randomly selected to board the ship and leave his home behind. Their course was set for earth. He had been but a simple college student, hardly scraping by with his job as an exotic dancer. He was nice enough and decently intelligent, but he could find nothing in particular about him that would cause the universe to bestow him with the precious gift of life that so many others were deprived of. So many more were far more deserving.

indentationIt took him many centuries to finally be at peace with this aspect of himself.

indentationAfter one hundred and forty-seven years had passed, the ship broke through earth's atmosphere. It felt as if a burden had fallen from their backs in an instant. They were going to be okay. Martians would survive here on this unfamiliar new world, welcomed by the baffled but kind inhabitants who resided there.

indentationA great many years later, AKAHIKO works as an astronaut for NASA, residing in New Tokyo on vacation. His story is well-known around the world, and he is beloved by his colleagues, even though it hurts his heart to watch them pass over time. Earthling lifespans simply pale in comparison to his own (at six thousand, he is considered a young adult Martian. He expects to live to be about thirty thousand).

indentationHis goals in life are simple— to make earth a better place however possible, to explore every nook and cranny of it, and to encourage others to take good care of it. He knows of no other worlds like Mars and earth to flee to, after all. This planet is all he has.

indentationEarth is his home now, and he will defend it to his dying breath.

indentationMany hoped for a miracle when they heard about the rapid deterioration for their home planet. This miracle came in the form of a company called WMPA, which stood for Worldwide Mars Protection Association. Aided by billions of dollars donated to research, the association developed a state-of-the-art spaceship capable of transporting a small amount of BUTTERMILKS over lightyears of distance. This was a revolution in technology, but everyone was too somber to celebrate it much. They could dwell on but one thing.

indentationThe ship, when equipped to near bursting with supplies, could sustain forty bulls and cows for around two hundred years. That was it.

indentationOnly forty would survive to see a new life for their species as a whole.

indentationWMPA decided that they would send ten of their brightest scientists on board to preserve the artifacts and history of Mars civilization.
indentationindentationThat left only thirty more.

indentationMass panic as the association sent their message out— they were hosting a raffle to select who else would board the ship. There were many rules and requirements, but if you qualified for everything, you might have a slim chance of being chosen to live.

indentationAKAHIKO was shocked when he discovered that he could check off every box. But even as he sent in his ticket, he internally knew it didn't matter anyways. It was a one in three billion chance.

indentationBut when the envelope with the official-looking seal arrived in his dorm mailbox, his heart leaped into his throat.
