Do you believe in heroes?
xxNo, not the ones on the battlefields: under fire, helmets on tight. They are heroes yes, but
not the ones we're talking about. We're talking about superheroes. The ones with the super
cool powers, with the cape that flies behind them in the wind. The ones who can control
water, fire, or read the minds of others. The ones society hates. At one time, we welcomed
their abnormalities, let them live freely within our lives, let them protect the world. But with
all good comes evil. And after a while, evil always prevails. They brought the evil with them,
the superheroes. They stopped it the best they could, until they couldn't. One slip up brought
an entire city to its knees. Thousands of lives lost, too many more missing. It was the heroes
fault really. They couldn't protect us from the evil, and they let them hurt us, let them destroy
the lives of millions. We remember the day well. Remember the day the news papers read,
"Heroes Fail."
xxThe government chased them down after that, hunted them down one by one, not wanting them
to live where they could hurt the lives of anyone else. But some got away, and some went into
hiding. It's said that the heroes who survived had children, creating a new generation of heroes
under the watchful eyes of those supers who survived the government. But if the heroes had
children, wouldnโt the villains as well?
xxIs it even true? What the media says about this band of secret heroes. Who would try to protect
a world that would rather see them dead? Who would want that?
