with harsh words on a loop, "It started out simple..." there's interference, always interference, "like the flu... but then it becam
e more. It... changed," the radio cuts out then, popping and fizzling as the shattered device struggles to keep up with the words
being spoken, "-eople became sicker, more aggressive until they became those- those... monsters... it was like a really bad.. mo
vie," the girl's voice breaks around a hollow laugh, "Mindless husks roaming neighborhoods, hungry for flesh... news reports of pe
ople attacking one another... even more reports of people getting sick from bites..." there's a short pause, "Cities fell within day
s, countries just after... pretty soon there was nothing left of the world we once knew," the faceless person sighs heavily, causing
st static spikes in the connection, "nothing but crumbled buildings, the infected and us- the survivors... there aren't many of us l
eft alive now- hell, I don't even know if anyone is hearing this... but here's the thing..." there's a long pause as the girl takes in a
breath, sounding pained, "Before communications went down world wide, before the government and the armed forces abandone
d us and left us all for dead, there was talk of a drug in development; a serum being made in Canada, from the infection resistant
antibodies found in animal blood. It can't cure the ones already gone, but ones like you and me... damn.. supposedly it can make
us immune," disbelief seems to be replaced by hope then, and she laughs again, "No one knows if it was finished or... if it was eve
r even true... but there's nothing left for us here... there's nothing left for us anywhere. The serum- the hope... that's all we've g
ot now," the static stills, and for a moment it seems as if the radio has finally died until the young survivor speaks again, like alwa
ys, "We're going to Canada to find it. Toronto, to be specific... it's the only shot we have left- we just have to hope we can outsm
