♞ byrne the oldest son of a police officer and baker, was born in the busy south of ontario in canada. he had a younger sister that followed him by three years, and the four lived in their townhome with a golden retriever named chico happily. byrne excelled at arts and english in school, taking a design program once he reached college. during his first year of post secondary at a school in the northern part of new york state, he met his future girlfriend lana. the pair soon moved in with one another and though unexpected, soon had a daughter, daisy. when the world fell apart, byrne took his family to one of the refugee centers near their school, until the center was evacuated to the safe zone. along the way, byrne was separated from lana and daisy, thinking that he would meet up with them in the safe zone. they never arrived. byrne was always an upbeat, lively person, preferring to look on the positive side of matters, even the end of the world. he strongly believes that his girlfriend and daughter are still alive somewhere. he is a kind and caring person, brought out most by the presence of his family, especially his daughter. while he has always been somewhat frightened of the future, byrne can now resolutely say that he is next to terrified as to what the future will bring, and is growing increasingly malcontent with staying in the safe zone. he can be incredibly rash, and can often react violently when confronted.

✲ marian affectionately known as mari to her family and friends, was born to an already large family, was the second oldest of six. her parents, her father a carpenter and her mother, a stay at home mom, valued family greatly and instilled in their children a love of being around one another and their extended family. as a child marian had an incredible aptitude for mathematics and puzzles, along with music. she adored playing the piano with her older sister providing a vocal accompaniment, but while she would have liked to study music, her parents did not have the funds to continue her training, and instead, marian took night classes after high school while working in construction and carpentry like her father. her first concern being her family, she went back home to find two of her siblings and her father's bodies in a partially burnt out home. marian took her hammer and father's fishing knife and set out in the world, wanting to find her siblings and mother. marian is a strong headed woman, lively and energetic when in a positive mood. she is not afraid to speak her mind, and is intensely protective from being the older sister of four. she has endured much already, and sees no reason as to why it should break her yet. deep down however, she is scared out of her mind that she will never see her mother again, or ever find a semblance of a peaceful life in this new world. easily frustrated and rash, marian often finds herself in impossible situations just because of who she is. when cornered or confronted she tends to lash out violently, a new aspect of her personality brought to the forefront by this ugly new world.

♛ thomas the younger of two children born to a university literature professor and a seamtress, was a bright child from the beginning. he shared his father's love of literary classics, and loved to be read to by any of his family members. he did very well in creative classes in school, but struggled in subjects that his teachers found to be of greater importance like math and science. he took art and writing classes through the whole of high school, and started working towards publishing a book while working at a local newspaper when the world ended. the lee family was taken in by a group that claimed to have a safe space, but one night, the leader snapped and killed most of the group in their sleep. thomas escaped with his life because the dead lumbered out and attacked the leader before he got to thomas' hiding place. the loss of his parents and older brother nearly made him end his life, but thomas persisted, knowing in his heart that somewhere there were good people still. due to his voracious reading at a young age, thomas is a bright person, quick with witty little jokes on his good days. he has the patience of a saint, and is willing and ready to help those that he knows and loves and those that he has only just met. as a teenager he was always anxious and reserved, preferring to keep his artistic endeavors to himself rather than to share, and now these traits make it hard for him to open up about what happened to his family. he despises staying in one place too long, not wanting the past to repeat itself.

♛ tessa the older of two sisters, was raised by a single mother and her mother's parents in a cozy little bungalow. her sister and her were loved fiercely by their family and both girls grew up well, tessa learning to kick box and play softball, along with excelling in science. her sister was more artistic and her mother and grandparents liked to joke that though both girls had their mother's fiery red hair, they were as different as night and day. tessa always laughed it off but as they grew older and the distance between them grew, she began to see it as being true. her sister began to work in fashion while she was drawn to astrophysics. her schooling lead her to meet her future boyfriend, joseph. the two quickly fell into a relationship and tessa felt for a time that her life was all that she could want of it. when society collapsed, her family was taken to one of the safe zones as a precaution by her grandfather. her boyfriend was sent out looking for supplies and returned badly injured, only to die later. finding herself disillusioned with life, tessa found herself running into a man that she didn't know from the safe zone. a usually highly positive person, tessa can be incredibly charming when she wants to be. she is nearly fearless, plunging headfirst into situations that make her sister and mother blanch. she is a decisive individual, rarely lingering on her thoughts and the pros and cons of any choice she might make. sometimes tessa blurs the line between fearlessness and recklessness and her jumping head first into things can backfire on her and lead to major problems. she still believes that there is a way for her family to live happily. though she cares deeply for those around her, she still refuses to divulge anything about her life before, making people suspicious of her. despite her usual happy self, she can be incredibly cruel if she feels her hand is forced.

❖ michael the second son of a real estate agent and a casting director, was raised in a tense household. his parents' marriage disintegrated slowly, and around the time he started school they divorced. his older brother was loved by both their parents while michael's mother decided that she could not stand the younger boy. so michael and his brother went to live with his father for most of his childhood. though he loved his brother, michael couldn't help but feel jealous of the love he received from their mother and feel inadequate as a son. still, he made his way through school using a soccer scholarship to help pay for school so he could become a writer. he had little luck with that, though he kept trying and instead found himself working for his father doing paperwork for a few years. when world fell apart, michael and his brother, mark, were taken by their father to a safe zone. as soon as he passed away from an illness that they didn't have the resources to cure anymore, michael took the lead for a change, and took his brother and left. the two found the wanderers group and have been with them ever since. at first, michael is a little hard to draw out of his shell, timid around new people as he has always been. once you break through to him however, he is generous and dependable, a true friend. despite the lack of supplies and provisions at times, he is surprisingly carefree, noting that things could be worse much to the chagrin and annoyance of many around him. he is still susceptible to his childhood jealousy of his brother, especially since his brother is still well-liked by the rest of their group. he finds his own anxieties and loneliness keep up at night, and can lead to his belief that no one needs him so he can be reckless.

➸ victor the third son of a rancher, was raised a working man. the cattle and goats that his family raised were bought every year by a butcher in town, giving them a steady income to make it through the winter. at the age of ten, his father got consumption and died over the course of a winter. his oldest brother jeremiah was now the head of the family and had to deal with the livestock and it's sale by himself, relying on his younger brothers to handle the rest of the business while he was away in town. victor grew restless, feeling lost without his father. despite his brother's leadership in the family, at the age of seventeen, victor began to trade illegal goods with a group of outlaws in an attempt to earn them some extra money in town. he was caught dealing stolen goods and arrested, but was sprung from the jail by one of the outlaws who had given him help while injured. victor has been with the group ever since. ten years with the outlaws and years before of dealing with cattle have left victor nearly completely fearless. he is a carefree and cheerful, a positive person overall. he regards the band of outlaws as his family now, willing to do anything to keep them away from the gallows. he has quite an ego and can be arrogant, especially when it comes to his looks and charm, which can often get him out of near impossible situations. sometimes his manner is quite coarse, and he lashes out and says things that he doesn't mean. he doesn't like to discuss certain things that he's had to do for the outlaws, preferring to keep them a secret to take to his grave.
