rory was in the platform. it was her first year. she was nervous. her mother almost did not let her come because of her irradical fear of not having her daughter close, but at the end of the day, she was safer in hogwarts than anywhere else. she looked at the train and suddenly she was being sorted into gryffindor and was eating the most delicious meal in her life and could feel that this would be an amazing year and then a month had passed, and two and five and she was coming home for holidays and saying goodbye to the best friends she could have possibly had, and realized that everything happened for a reason and that she was meant to be there at hogwarts, and a few weeks later she was going back and before she could notice it the year passed by and summer approached and she was saying goodbye to her friends and teachers and enemies and to the castle and to the ghosts, all of whom she'd miss terribly.

at the platform, for the fourth time in the school year, rory walked out of the magical side and into the muggle's part through the wall. no one seemed to notice when an eleven year old girl appeared from a wall. no one except a man, who approached her inmediatly and claimed to be her father and rory was outraged because never, ever in her life she had met her father and now a stranger just gave himself the airs to come by and drop that bomb. she went back to her small apartment in london and told her mother everything before the man entered through the door from behind and the tension started to build.

he was most definitely her father and his full name was andrés ricardo pareja-lecaros. he had just arrived from a long and thin country in south america called chile and wanted to speak to rory's mother. "sarah" he said, and rory was confused because she could have sworn that her mother's name was elizabeth. "i am sorry." and that apology seemed to be enough for elizabeth clarke, who was actually named sarah pareja-lecaros and changed her name ten years ago.

the story was basically this: they met in hogwarts. he was in slytherin and she was in hufflepuff and they fell madly in love in their third year. out of school, spent some years together, testing boundaries and wondering if they truly wanted it when the rumours of a dark wizard rising began. they rushed it all- marriage, kids, moving. everything. it was his idea to leave, although in some sly way, he managed to make it sound as if it was all her thought. they went to south america, to chile, and lived with andrés's parents for some time. aurora was born there, originally called maria-josé and nicknamed majo. she seemed to be the only thing holding their marriage together. elizabeth (sarah- rory did not know what to call her anymore) said that he had gone insane. treated her like a servant, barking around orders, not hiding his affairs with other women. the last straw was when he came home drunk and was on the verge of abuse, before being knocked out by the alcohol. elizabeth was afraid. she grabbed the baby and ran for her life, stealing some money for a way back to england. she managed to stay hidden and change her name, always moving every certain time. she never had another partner. she feared everyone, and had nightmares often. growing up with a mother who had post traumatic stress disorder, was extremely obsessive of rory's whereabouts, and could not have been more paranoid, was hard. it made rory paranoid. she could barely sleep at night because of her mom's vivid dreaming, pushing her to stay later and later into the night. that explained the later diagnosed insomnia and being almost unable to trust people.

she was just a kid and her life was already messed up without a lot of tragedy. that was until her father came crashing into her life and for some reason, it seemed as if he had been holding up pretty fine. he said he was working in the ministery of magic, trying to stop he who must not be named from reaching what he wanted. it was quick, really. a paranoid hufflepuff needed time to process, she had the time, and fast enough she got back together with andrés and for a couple of years everything seemed perfect.

until voldemort rose and called the death eaters along with him. who would have known that andrés pareja-lecaros was one of them? a thirteen year old, terrified girl had to live while her father tortured her mother with the crucio curse, just to leave them both there and disappearing forever. it was horrible. rory never thought she would have to live as one of those kids who suffered from a tragedy, whose knees got weak at the sound of death eaters and winced when someone joked about serious matters such as those. from that day on, she just lived in her own world. she did not care what others thought. she masked her fear, her insecurities, with a sharp tongue and fluent sarcasm and appearances of a perfect life. and even now, in her sixth year at hogwarts, she is afraid of leaving the castle in the summer and is afraid of leaving her mother when school begins.

underneath that protective shell of a confident, charismatic, goofy, sarcastic and unpredictable gryffindor girl is the broken thirteen year old who was betrayed by her father and watched him do something unspeakable.
