Observe it: At first he seemed like only a normal eel in the deep sea trench yet when I moved towards the little light of his tail, as I touched his tail to get his attention and suddenly the not so small eel turned around and popped out of the trench, he looked angry with the way his mouth was open and you could see his teeth. His teeth were the size of me, I was scared that he would eat me, without the need to even chew.

After days and days of me coming back and observing everything he was doing, which was often eating and gliding around in the water. He would often let me pet him, his scales smooth but rough when they connected to the rest of his scales, once he even let me sit on his head and hold on whilst he sped through the water gracefully. Eventually I figured out that maybe if he was letting me sit on him and basically ride him then maybe he would let me make a saddle so that we can do that more often.

It took me hours and hours to make the hug saddle, it was amazing, the leather was first class and it fit him snugly. There were little bits and pieces so that I could breathe, but I realized that after spending days upon days with him I had adapted to him, my body had grown slight gills on the sides of my neck, but I could still breathe fine out of water.

This one intrigued me, after the gills another thing happened, I could hear him talking to me. Not using his mouth but through my mind, I had heard that some Kaiju could do this but I never thought I'd connect to one enough for him to be comfortable enough to express his feelings and show me his secrets. I was impressed and in awe, never knowing that I would be able to connect to one like I had.

I was hiking in some woods that bordered a sea when I stumble upon a cave. It had begun to rain so I figured I'd wait out the storm in shelter. Upon entering though it became obvious this was not a normal cave. It was inhabited by what appeared to be a giant eel. The creature was dripping wet, so I assumed it had just come from the water. I was amazed that this creature could travel on land as well as underwater. I hid behind a rock and watched it. It appeared to move similar to a snake when on land. It's tongue was flicking out as well, tasting the air. The light on its tail seemed to respond to it's emotions. When a bat flew out of the cave, the creature startled and his tail blinked rapidly. (At this point it became apparent the creature was male due to comparing his head structure and other characteristics to those of male eels and snakes.) He watched the bat with wide eyes. This creature reminded me of a child. Eyes full of wonder, eagerly exploring the world. It was kind of cute. I slowly approached him. Sensing my presence the creature turned his head. When he saw me, his tail blinked and he tilted his head to the side like a confused puppy. "Hello." I called out sweetly. His tail blinked in what appeared to be happily and he nudged me with his nose. I chuckled and started stroking his head. He started to rumble almost like a purr. Laughing, I laid down beside him and we spent the duration of the storm relaxing together. When the rain finally stopped and I stood to leave, he followed me. No matter how hard I tried to make him turn back, he refused. Finally, he turned his begging eyes on me and I finally gave in. I took him home and named him Shay. When I told him his name his tail blinked rapidly with joy. He now sleeps wrapped around my bed. I had to remove all of the other furniture and make a giant door leading from the outside straight to my room just so that he could fit though. I'm lucky that my room has tall ceilings to he can get in. He certainly can't raise his head though. He'd break the roof.

A scream ripped through the air, sending me straight out of bed. I frantically looked around. Nothing. I peeked out the window and saw more than half the town gathered around the coast, pointing at something off shore. I quickly changed out of my sleep clothes, put on my shoes, and ran outside as well. I slipped my way to the front of the crowd and looked across the water. I felt my heart stop. A large inky black eel was swimming close to the shore at surprising speeds.

"What is that...." I muttered.

Someone beside me passed out from shock, but nobody moved to grab them. Everyone were in awe. The eel whipped around in the water to face us, stirring up a surprising amount of sand. It slowly rose out of the water, like death itself. People started backing away. It stared at us for a moment before parting it's massive jaws in a sound like roaring. Everyone, including me, screamed in response and turned and fled. I ran blindly up the shore and back to the small steps of where I lived close to the shore before stopping. There were no sounds of it trying to follow us. It was silent, apart from the sounds of fleeing villagers. I turned around the face the ocean. The mighty beast was watching us leave, looking slightly confused and hurt. It snorted in dismissal and sank back into the water.

"Strange..." I said to myself. It didn't seem like it wanted to hurt us...maybe it was confused? I quickly ran inside and grabbed a pocket notebook and a pencil off my nightstand and raced back outside. I sat away from the shore, close enough that I could see the eel, but it couldn't see me. At least, I hoped it couldn't see me. The eel continued the swim rapidly in a circled around the bank, sometimes getting stopped or slowed down by the bank. It was terrifying, in a sense. Most of the eels I'd ever seen Moray Eels, which were much, MUCH smaller than this, and some mix between dark yellow and brown in color. This....this was alien.

As it raced around, I noticed a glowing sack-like growth at the end of it's tail. If that was used to attract mates, then this creature might be male. I scribbled down "Possibly male" on the note book. I also wrote a quick description of it's appearance down. I couldn't even begin to imagine how big this thing was, so I just wrote "Huge". That got me thinking, hadn't one of the fisherman said something about huge animals? Yeah, he did! What did he call them...what did he call them..... I tapped my pencil on the notebook. After about three minutes of doing this, my brain finally remembered. "Kaiju! He's a Kaiju! I cried. A nearby bird gave me the weirdest look.

I wrote "Kaiju" down on my notebook. "Alright, so, he's an dark colored, massive eel, with a light on his tail..." I pondered aloud. What did this mean? And why was there a Kaiju here?! Then, it hit me. He was a deep water eel! My father had told me that fish from where the water turned dark were terrifying, blacker than the night and ore teeth than a nightmare. I looked back up at the Kaiju, who was thrashing around in the water. "He's stuck!" I declared. I stood up, letting my pencil and notebook fall into the sand. "Somebody has to help him!" I looked around. Everyone was in their house, probably having locked their doors. I gritted my teeth. "I'll have to do." I ran inside and put on my swim suit before dashing back outside.

Ignoring the weight of dread slowing my feet, I dove into the water and swam as fast as I could to the large eel. Just as I started to get close enough to feel the wake from it's frenzied panic, it froze. "Too late to turn back now..." I told myself, swallowing a lump in my throat. The creature rose out of the water once more, it's long body blocking out the sun. I stared up at it, expecting it to kill me. It jerked it's head towards the open ocean. "Why don't you go back?" I shouted, hoping the Kaiju could hear me. It dipped it's head into the water, pulled out, glanced at me, then went back under. I followed it under this time, and opened my eyes. Sand and grit immediately stuck to my eyes, but I forced them to stay open. I could just make out giant boulders blocking the ocean from the shore. I swam up, gasping for air and wiping my eyes furiously. Whenever it swam here, he must've knocked down loose boulders from the overhanging cliffs.

He rose out of the water just enough for his eyes to break the surface. It looked at me, as if asking for help. I nodded. "Okay, the tide will be leaving soon, so we have to work fast, you ready?" I asked it. It blinked. "I'm taking that as a yes." I said. I swam over to where to boulders were, aware of the Kaiju following me. "Alright, when I go under, I want you to try and push your nose under this boulder and roll try to roll it. I'll be helping you as best I can." I said. I gulped in air and dove under the water. I opened my eyes, squinting to keep the amount of sand getting in them minimal. I felt my way down the large boulder in front of my until I found where it met sand. I turned to the Kaiju and pointed at the bottom of the boulder before swimming out of the way. It stuck it's long snout under the boulder with some difficulty and started to push up. I pushed on the boulder as well, feeling my entire body strain in effort. It felt like my lungs were about to burst. I was just about to go up for air when I felt the boulder move. "Just a little more!" I told myself. I threw my entire body weight into pushing the boulder, as did the Kaiju. With a final push upwards, the Kaiju sent the boulder out of the water and landing in front of us with an almighty splash. I swam upward as fast as I could, my vision slowly fading. After what felt like an eternity, I broke out of the water. I gasped for air frantically, while kicking to keep me afloat. When I could breathe normally again, I started laughing.

"We did it!" I cried happily, looking around for the Kaiju. After a complete circle, I found he was no where in sight. What did I expect, he was an animal. He did need to get home too. Yet, I still felt...sad. Something brushed my foot. I looked down hopefully, only to see three sharks circling me. I froze. Water splashed into my nose, reminding me to swim. I looked at the shore. Nobody was out of their house. One of the sharks bumped me again. I looked back down at them. One of the sharks started to swim upwards, its jaws parted. Everything happened slowly. The shark lunged toward my leg, it's deadly jaws almost tearing into my soft flesh. I could sense one of the other sharks close to my back. I stopped moving. This was it. Then, something white smacked the shark at my leg away, and a large black thing coiled around me protectively. A large shadow cast over me. I looked up to see the Kaiju looking down at the water, it's teeth bared. After making sure the sharks left, it turned to me, it's head lowered so we could see each other's eyes. I put my hands on his snout. "Thank you." I said, not knowing what else to say. This Kaiju just saved my life.

"I'm going to call you Aasim, do you know what that means?" I asked. No response. "It means "Protector"." I told it. It seemed to smile, as if pleased.
