She would rather like to go to Japan, because she’s heard interesting things about it. Things such as how there’s a Tower, super fast trains, and it’s a chain of islands. She’d also like to see manga and anime in the land they originated.

for half a century, before being discovered by a primitive tribe tucked away by a babbling brook that curled around the city.
whether coincidence, or fate, her appearance ushered an age of opulence and movement, and she was elevated as the rein-
carnation of anubis, a benevolent rendition that watched over, and appeased the dead, and the dying. life has never been hard
for her - she watched loose-lidded from her faraway temples as children dragged their feet through the mud, quietly building her
empire, a city gilded by blood and sweat. years past - maybe centuries - time in such a climate becomes a construct. valhalla
grows tired - of the same people, the same places, the same, easy living with no ups, nor downs. what is it like outside? outside
golden dunes, the scathing heat of the sun, the colour of worldly riches. val's world has always been washed in a dreary shade of
burgundy and gold, like the brilliant spheres, immortalised in her eyes.

so one, balmy evening, she follows that gurgling brook upstream, treading through frothy waters - lukewarm. not hot, nor cold,
no ups, nor downs. flares are lit in the midnight, the townspeople scrabbling to find their goddess, suddenly vacated. valhalla
never goes far - something ties her to cairo, not duty, nor obligation. maybe it was a psychological burden - not that she ever
had the rational capacity to think for herself. tonight is different, for the better, or for the worse. she doesn't get tired, such
is the way of things. erebus is a comfortable coil around her arm - she is never alone. the same can't be said for loneliness. comp-
anionship, camaraderie, the rawness of dragging your feet through the garbage, and the muck. val wants to feel alive. so tonight,
just tonight, she lets herself go. the midnight moonlight is silver in the heat. val looks down, at the rippling reflection of the river.
her eyes are dulled. not precious, but muted, and mundane.

that night, one just like any other, she sees it. elevated on a vantage, a pointed dune, the dust kicks up like hundreds of thousands
of iron shrapnel, stinging her eyes - but she doesn't care. it's beautiful. a vast expanse of blue, smooth and calm like the bones of veal,
so often stripped and smoked at her alter. gentle waves lap at the golden underfoot, intricate patterns like woven fibre. and blue.
so blue, unlike one she has ever seen. nary muddied with sweat and grime like cairo's diverging brooks, nor marred by dusty footprints,
like the polished marble of her abode. just blue - unapologetic and sincere. she realises, then, she has been missing something
fundamental. something essential has been eviscerated, from her, the people around her, rising and falling with each careless
civilisation. sincerity, truth, the terrible ordeal of living and loving and failing, every once in a while.

behind her, valhalla hears voices. graduating with footsteps, muted by the sandy dune. the townspeople have found her, but she
doesn't look away, not until they seize her, their voices dripping with false concern, or something arather. her hair is whipped by the wind, catching the rising sun with each volatile slice. but even through the voices and the gale and her own wildly unrestricted
locks, the ocean is, as it has always been, beautiful, and she would die just to see it again, just once.
