Regulations

General Rules
Owlkits are a closed species. To create your own, you would need special permission.
Please respect Owlkit staff. Do not bribe or threaten my staff.
Please be respectful to your fellow competitors.
Please, do not ask to be an artist or moderator.
Please, do not ask for a custom.
If you are banned from Owlkits, you lose ownership of your Owlkits.
You may not trade your Owlkits, this includes trading for any form of currency or for another Owlkit.
You are not allowed to add edits to your own Owlkits. However, accessories are acceptable.
All posted art for a contest must be given to the winner.
Please, take all you issue and concerns to staff.

Owlkit Specific Rules
You may own up to 5 Owlkits.
Owlkits are a wholly carnivorous species. They only eat meat.
Owlkits are feral creatures. They do not have jobs or drive cars.
Owlkits can be any romantic or sexual orientation.
While Owlkits are primarily monogamist, Owlkits can divorce and find a new mate twice.
Owlkits can breed with one other Owlkit regardless of gender.
Owlkits can breed a maximum of 3 times.
Incestuous and pedophilic relationships are unacceptable and can result in a ban.
Users must own their Owlkit for a month before breeding their Owlkit.
There is a breeding cooldown period of two months for each Owlkit.

Staff Rules
Please be respectful to the community.
Please, do not abuse your power and privileges. If you do, you will be removed from staff and possibly banned from the species.
Please, refrain from making designs that outright copy a copyrighted character. (Example: Charzard)
Put the # of the Owlkit in the title.
You may own 8 Owlkits. However, 3 of those slots are reserved only for customs.
FOR MODS: Customs are earned. You recieve your first custom after being noticeably helpful for 4 weeks. The second custom after 8 weeks. The final custom comes after 16 weeks.
FOR ARTISTS: Customs are earned. You receive your first custom after creating an judging 5 contests than run longer than 4 days. The second customs comes after creating and judging 15 contests that run longer and 4 days. The final custom comes after judging 25 contests than run longer than 4 days.
If you fail to judge a contest within two months, a species mod will take over judging. If this happens more than 3 times without sending in a notice, you will be removed from staff and will be barred from receiving anymore customs.

What Are Hydro Hounds?

Born in the depths of the ocean, Hydro Hounds are aquatic canines who have qualities of both fish and dogs. Originating in the lost city of Atlantis, each Hydro Hound is born in a pair and are raised as hunters and guardians for their human masters. They have a wide variety of different Traits but are well known for the three fins that run down their backs, two bills, and the gradient mark on their sides. This mark is known as the ocean mark and, though found in many different shapes and colors, it represents the bond of the Hound and the sea. Puppies do not gain this mark until they reach a certain age.

General Rules

~You may own up to 15 Hydro Hounds
~These are free however you must win them via competitions
~Please respect the staff and other adopters
~NO bribes, complaints, begging, etc.
~No stealing others Hydro Hounds and do not claim the designs as your own
~If banned, I gain the right to take away your Hounds and put them up for re-adoption
~More to come as I figure this out

Artist Rules:
~You are required to make at least one adoptable a month.
~You are not allowed to copy other people's designs or use images off of google
~You may not place one of your original characters into these lines unless given permission by me
~You should at try your best to answer any questions that may be given about the species and only contact me if absolutely needed
~More may be added as this progresses. It is your responsibility to keep up with these rules and understand them.

Species Origin

Hydro Hounds are said to have once been the first canine companions of man, appearing on ships in which the sailors threw food scraps into the water. They were originally treated as pests however, once sailors began to understand their usefulness in battle and on the ship, they began treating them as pets. Eventually the demand for them became so great that everyone wanted a hydro hound. Sadly there wasn't enough information on them and they were extremely difficult to find, until now. Researchers recently discovered a sanctuary of these beasts when they came across the lost ruins of Atlantis. Their role in atlantean society was also discovered. Hydro hounds were found to be guardians and companions, working alongside soldiers and citizens alike. They were there when Atlantis was built, they were there when it prospered, and they were there when it fell. Now, though. instead of falling with their original companions, hydro hounds began seeking out a new companion and they found it in humans. In order to protect the species, scientists are intrusting humans with Hydro hounds in hopes that their relationships will replicate those of the ancient atlantians and that some if not all mysteries of the hydro hounds will be completed.

Species Facts and Lifestyle

Basic Facts:
Height: Each ranges from 3 to 4 feet tall. Larger and/or smaller can be found but they are much harder to find.
Length: About 1-2 meters long
Weight: 100 to 150 pounds when wet. when dry, 45 to 85 pounds.
Diet: Carnivores - Eat fish, shellfish, crayfish, etc.
Housing: Normally sleeps and nests in water. They often live near reefs, in caves, or kelp forests.
Breeding: Requires two parents, male and female despite sexuality, and eggs are almost always born in pairs. Sometimes an extra is born, which is known as a runt, and in nature it was almost impossible for these to survive. Under human care however they can. Sometimes, if a pair of adults that the scientists own bear a runt, it will be offered up for adoption at a young age so it can be imprinted on by its new parents.

Species Adaptations

Adaptations:
~3 Spines Down Back: Each Hydro Hound has 3 webbed spines that run down it's backbone. Used mainly for steering, these spines allow the hydro hound to cut through and change directions, even through the strongest currents.
~Fur On Upper body: Though Hydro Hounds are born in warm shallow waters, they often migrate to the colder depths of the ocean to gain their Ocean Marks and many choose to stay there. In order to protect themselves and their main vital organs such as the brain, heart and lungs, they've grown a thick warm coat of fur there yet they still retain the smooth, slick hindquarters.
~Scales on Underbelly with no fur: While the fur offers protection to the upper body, it's scales offer protection to the lower body. This is to protect against anything underneath such as reefs, rocks, etc.
~Webbed Feet: Each Hydro hound has webbed feet and a fin on each foot. This is to allow them to swiftly push through the water while the fins allow it to choose which directions the force goes.

Runner Up System

Runner Ups are found on Hydro hounds!
For those who don't know what a runner up is, it's a pet that is created for a second place winner during an adoptable competition. These normally share a similar or the same theme as the original pet. These are treated as regular adoptables and follow all of the original rules. Now, for my artists, there are several rules to making RU's.
~There may only be one RU per adoptable unless I've granted you permission.
~RUs must follow a similar theme to the original but they cannot have the same color scheme or Ocean Mark. (Similar ones are permitted but there must be some difference in them.
~RU's do get a number just as any other and are also posted under the main thread.

Honorable Mention System

HMs can also be found on Hydro hounds!
For those who don't know what an HM is, it's where, if someone puts a lot of work into a competition or adoptable, they get recognized. After gaining enough hm's, or Droplets as we use here, they can put them together to gain a custom Hydro hound.
~It takes three droplets to create a hydro hound
~The HH's made through this system are treated as customs. See the Custom thread for more info.
~To redeem your droplets, please post the form below in the custom thread.

What are Reversal Cats?
Reversal Cats are a species who are known for their telepathy and ability to turn back time (There are consequences unfortunately,) They are generally a species that finds empathy and sympathy a trait that appears extremely common. They are creatures who, if approached correctly and treated well, will stay by your side for eternity, possibly quite literally.
Every Reversal Cat has at least one neon colour on their fur.

Where do they generally live?
Generally speaking, Reversal Cats live in different types of habitats depending on their breed, which can often at times vary from boiling deserts to Frozen mountain tops. Some Reversal Cats live in cities, but they are generally rarer than say one that lives in a rainforest.

What do they eat?
Reversal Cats eat insects and small mammals. Once more their diet depends on their breed.

Known breeds of reversal cats;
Ridge Reversals- The most common of Reversal Cat breeds which are found in pretty much every habitat. They are around the size of an average house cat. (Cost: Free)
Quarter Reversals- The second most common of the Reversal Cat breeds, Found mainly in tundra areas and frozen mountain peaks. There is very little variation in their species, sometimes having neon tipped ears. (Cost: Free)
Pixie Reversals- One of the more uncommon breeds of Reversal Cat. They are the smallest Reversal Cat breed being approx. 20-25 cm in length, and approx 15-20 cm in height. Their fur is generally completely neon, with very few dark colours, if any. (Cost: One uncommon pet OR 200 Reversal Points)
Domino Reversals- This breed is a fairly uncommon species, but much more common than the pixie reversals. They love to cheat at board games, by reversing time whenever they see your move. You can tell these apart from the rest by their domino/dice dot markings on the tail, pupils, on their flanks, and usually one or two on their legs. The spots are usually neon in colour. The patterns act as a warning system so never play board games with them! (Cost: One OMG So common pet, 100 Reversal Points)

[Rules]

➨Racing Kiers and all things associated with Kiers are owned by King of Crows.

Only King of Crows and those granted explicit permission directly from him are allowed to create Kiers. Those not granted permission may not create their own Kiers. No other original species may copy the design and lore information of Kiers.➨All users are expected to behave politely within the community.

Behavior that is explicit, rude, offensive, harmful, derogatory, defamatory, or discriminatory in behavior is prohibited. Treating others within the community in a manner deemed by staff to be inappropriate may result in a permanent ban from the species.➨Recognize that artists are humans, not production factories.

Begging, bribing, whining, threatening, or complaining in order to increase the output of new Kiers and/or custom Kiers will not be tolerated. If you are not patient enough to wait for a Kier, then you do not need one.➨Staff positions are based on merit, not request.

Asking or begging to be granted a staff position (artist, mini mod, archivist) will only make this less likely to happen. If I need any staff positions to be filled then I will put up an application.➨Refunds for Gems will not be granted unless under special circumstances.

When you submit a trade for Gems you recognize that the species may be unexpectedly closed without warning, and that you may or may not have the pets you exchanged for Gems returned.➨Gem exchange trades must not exceed 30 pets at once.

Kiers are a domesticated variety of the wild Kier, and are the only species within their genus. They are apex predators, and as mammals are covered in a very fine, smooth layer of fur. Built with sturdy hoof-like toenails and a large heart and lungs, they are extremely fast and agile. While reaching 45 mph, they are not as fast as a cheetah, but can maintain this speed for a significantly longer duration. Kier legs are equipped with very strong, hooked spurs that enable them to leap onto and cling to large prey animals such as pronghorn antelopes, feral horses, burros, and even bison.

Domesticated Kiers come in a wide array of colors and patterns determined majorly by genetics. Kiers are mostly short-furred, but selective breeding has produced several variations of the length of tail fur. All Kiers have stiff tails that, while flexible, do not move much on a horizontal plane. They do move their tail up and down as needed to communicate.

Some terminology may be similar to that used for dogs but Kier genetics are different from dog genetics.

Base Colors

The bottom layer of a coat color.

Dilution

Dilution gene affects base and skin colors. Saturation of dilution varies individually on non-genetic factors.

Saturation

Causes all non-black pigment to intensify. Varies individually in intensity.

Mask

Causes dark pigment on the face, tail tip, and legs. Amount depends on the individual.

Black Spotting

Presence of this gene causes black spotting varying from nearly the entire body black to light sable and agouti.

Brindle

Results in the present markings to form in stripe-like patterns. Can affect entire body or only certain parts.

White Spotting

Causes white markings from as little as the toes to the entire body. Amount depends on the individual.

Ticking

Causes markings to speckle and spread out unevenly, even over white spotting.

Merle

Causes random spots of dilution in the coat. Can be present with the dilution gene and causes and highly diluted coat with spots of more/less dilution.

Spectrum

It seems to cause a distribution of unusually brilliant, often bio-luminescent, fur throughout the coat in small amounts. Still requires much studying.

Albinism

Causes an entire lack of pigment. Potential health risks.

Kier genotypes are coded like so:

So, for example let's look at our mascot, a Typical-tailed Self-White Kier with Typical Eyes.
You can tell he is not albino by the dark pigment appearing on his nose and ears. The specking shown indicates the presence of a ticking gene that is not heavily expressed due to a large amount of white spotting, which also causes him to appear white despite not being albino.

So, his genotype looks like this:

A break down of this:
EyEy: He has typical eyes and does not carry anything else.
OOh: He has a typical tail but carries Harley.
bb: His base is red.
dd: He exhibits dilution (fawn).
SS: He does not have Saturation.
Ee: He does not have a mask, but carries it.
jj: He does not carry black spotting.
Qq: He shows brindling, but carries no-brindle.
ww: He has white spotting.
rr: He has ticking.
MM: He does not carry merle.
Zz: He shows spectrum, but carries no-spectrum.
AA: He does not carry albino.
