Her adoptive parents named her Mona in acknowledgment of their hopes for her, but it also has numerous other meanings that they didn't realize. They named her Mona because of its most commonly known meaning:
Noble
Living in the upper class of Malibu, Mona's parents are like all others in that area. That is, they strive and hunger for power, and want to use their children to get it. Thus, they named her noble, hoping that since in some languages it can even mean 'My Lady' or 'One who lasts forever', it would lead her to greatness, or more specifically, to be queen. But, there was another meaning they over-looked:
Alone
Mona has never felt more alone. At the current time, she's been abandoned by her sister, and all because Mona was trying to protect her. Not to mention she has always hated her "Parents" and she is avoided by other Kalons, due to her status. Maybe her parents cursed her when they named her Mona, but she doesn't think so; She just blames her parents.

Beryl
Today, beryl is known to be a mineral, which when tainted by impurities, can be almost any color, but two of its most well-known variations are emerald and aquamarine, which is why the mineral was named beryl in the first place. Back in Ancient Greek, the word beryl meant 'sea green stone', or more specifically 'precious blue-green color-of-seawater stone'. Her parents decided on this name because they believed that her most striking feature was her eye coloring. Of course, they once again missed a hidden meaning about the name. When glasses were first invented, the lenses were made of beryl or on occasion different stones, due to the fact that glass could not be made clear enough. Mona often feels that if she truly deserved the name she has, she'd be able to help everyone in this world see exactly how they kept hurting each other, starting with her parents and herself.

Oleander
Her last name, which was her "family's" name, is rather fitting, in Mona's opinion. Nerium Oleander is an extremely poisonous plant which is actually grown in gardens quite often, due to the beautiful flowers. There's not much to be said about the irony, other than her family and those flowers are exactly the same; They appear perfect, but if you let them in, they'll kill you.

Mona lives in modern era Malibu but travels quite often in order to model and gain publicity for her parent's shampoo company. In this AU, Humans don't exist, and Kalons have taken their place.

Mona is a strong-willed, confident kal who doesn't really get emotional, except for anger. She desperately needs a voice of reason to balance out her long, heated rants about her adopted parents forcing her into modeling for their cosmetic company, and even more. She only agreed to all of it to protect her little sister, Cadence. They were adopted, and both because they were pretty and "perfect for modeling". Her younger sister hates that Mona does this, even though she knows her reasoning, and their relationship has grown strained since, but Mona knows her sister has other dreams. In fact, she does too. Despite all this, Mona still dreams of being a zoologist and traveling the world, not to be looked at, but to look. She wants to travel to the African savanna, Antarctica, The Nile River, The Amazon rainforest... But she stays, and she models to keep her sister from taking on the same responsibility. She knows, though, that once her sister turns 18 (she'll be 24), she can strive to achieve her dream and be happy.

Mona is the rebellious daughter of two of the worlds wealthiest people. Her parents own the Prestigious and well-known beauty product company called Shampoof, and they adopted two daughters in the hopes that they would someday come to run the company together. They found two beautiful faces, and the daughters became well known for their beauty.

Mona was adopted by her parents, and because of her looks, she was pushed from a young age to start modeling for their beauty product company. She eventually agreed not because she wanted to, but so they wouldn't push her adopted younger sister into the same life. Now, feeling quite restricted by all the cameras and popularity, she is a rebellious 19-year-old who has made it a game to cause trouble. She'll attempt escaping her parents' grip to go drinking, graffiti walls, and overall cause mischief. Despite the tough and cocky exterior, inside she wonders if all she can be is a pretty face. Honestly, what Mona needs is for someone to help her appreciate what she has, and realize that she is more than a pretty face to the world, and could become more due to the resources she already has.
