Valentines Doodle
by Mudfire @ Fri Feb 03, 2012 2:48 pm [Reply]

Thought I should draw something in the spirit of valentines day. Just so you guys know, I have to use a laptop with a touch pad for all my art so that's why its pretty ugly. The girl didn't come out the way I wanted her too, neither did the boy actually, but it's kinda cute.

Mudfire @ Sat Feb 04, 2012 11:11 am

Okay I wasn't expecting a load of like and comments, but maybe just one or two? :\

This is a random scene, with a tree. It looks like a big blob. I know. D: Still working on my skills with trees. The thing ontop of the ground by the tree is a person. Let me know how it is!

Oh man this is really pretty! *U* Yeah drawing with a touchpad is hard huh? I don't have a mouse so I'm used to it :( Maybe next time try some smoothing on the branches but otherwise this is intermediate.

Could you tell I was indecisive about the clouds? I guess I could tell you exactly what I meant for this, but then that wouldn't be very fun, now would it? Percieve as you will! I hope you enjoy it at least ^^

well ya there is my try at a tree and it sucks though i love the hidden man its right at dusk and the sky is almost a blood red and the man i guess could be interpreted as death walks by a dead tree and its misty hiding him from most mortal eyes :)

Tree? Oh, wait, yeah, now I see it. It was just hidden in your awesome misty stuff. :)

For an art project
by *QUIT* @ Fri Feb 03, 2012 1:35 pm [Reply]

This was for my school project obviosly as the title states. The project was abotu using a stick figure animation and then we had to create a background. During class we went on the very old version of Windows Paint and i told him that it was too basic and therefore too difficult to use. I had no layers, no opacity, nuthin'. So I asked if i could use chibiPaint and he said he didn't care, so tada!

2 Flowers
by Axxeon @ Mon Jan 30, 2012 12:42 pm [Reply]

Just two flowers. Nothing special. I'm trying to get used to my tablet and Oekaki so I may do better drawings in the future because at the moment they only look good on paper. Yeah so... HOPE YOU LIKE!

(I got lazy at all the little blades of grass. You can probably see that...)

Riley ♥ @ Mon Jan 30, 2012 1:01 pm

This is very nice. I only have a couple of small suggestions to make this look a little more realistic.

Vanishing Point: Establishing a vanishing point in your peice of art is crucial in order to give the viewer a good idea of what they're looking at, and they don't get confused. The science behind this is rather simple; farther away things are smaller (and behind everything) while bigger things are in the front, before everything else. It also helps with perception. You can practice the vanishing point by drawing a dot in the middle of your paper and making a road towards it, starting at the corners of your paper and slowly slanting towards the center, the two lines meeting at the dot.

Have a Referance: What makes painting look really nice, say, of flowers, is if they look like real flowers. Suppose you wanted to make a picture of some roses. All you would have to do is print a picture off the Internet, or use a real rose. References really help with making this very realistic.

Find your "Sun Point": Imagine where the sun or a light source is on your paper. (It doesn't have to be visible) Once you have the basic color or what you want, going back to the rose example, imagine you wanted it dark red. You would then make a brighter red or even pink and go over the tips of the petals. Make sure you know that what you are shading or adding light to is in a different spot, so the light still comes from the same place, but is reflected off each petal differently. Same with the shading; you may have no shading on one petal, but another one may be completely shaded!

If you have Extra Time: I always finish my work early in school, so I have pieces of paper in my binder that I sketch on, practicing things I find difficult, and developing new styles. Who knows, that Popular Kid in your class may just catch a glimpse of your lovely art...

I really hope this helps!

Thank you! You advice will help. I'm going to practice those techiques and Maybe edit this picture in the future or make a new one. Your advice will probably help me alot on my drawings. I usually doodle little stuff during class(probably doesn't help my grades though...) but I haven't done a lot of stuff thats worth showing people but I'll probably get better and be able to show people without getting embarrassed. Thank you again!

Riley ♥ @ Fri Feb 03, 2012 1:19 pm

I'm glad you find my advice useful. Just remember- me as a dragon artist, this is painfully true - that every single detail matters; you cannot "get lazy" on anything. Whether it be thousands of tiny blades of grass, each with their own shading and light point, or every single tiny scale on a colossal dragon- breathing fire!
Who knows where your hand will take you? Practice makes perfect, and I would love to see your art in the future.

The Mystic's Dream
by FireBornWyrm @ Wed Feb 01, 2012 1:01 pm [Reply]

A clouded dream on an earthly night
Hangs upon the crescent moon
A voiceless song in an ageless light
Sings at the coming dawn
Birds in flight are calling there
Where the heart moves the stones
It's there that my heart is longing for

All for the love of you

A painting hangs on an ivy wall
Nestled in the emerald moss
The eyes declare a truce of trust
And then it draws me far away
Where deep in the desert twilight
Sand melts in pools of the sky
When darkness lays her crimson cloak

Your lamps will call, call me home.

And so it's there my homage's due
Clutched by the still of the night
And now I feel, feel you move
Every breath is full
So it's there my homage's due
Clutched by the still of the night

Even the distance feels so near

All for the love of you.

A clouded dream on an earthly night
Hangs upon the crescent moon
A voiceless song in an ageless light
Sings at the coming dawn
Birds in flight are calling there
Where the heart moves the stones
It's there that my heart is longing for

All for the love of you.

Desert Sunrise Near the Arch
by tacocat. @ Sat Nov 12, 2011 9:49 am [Reply]

This is based off of a photo by my mother but it does not have any vegitation and it is not in the woods. The photo was used only for the arch.

You look carefully over the horizon and spot the huge bright ball slowly rising through the sand that is annoyingly blocking your view. A beautiful thing to see, indeed; you must sketch it.

Does anyone think I could or should have this moved to Intermediate?
