Backgrounds/Comic Panel Test - WIP
This is either going to turn out fantastic, or crap. This was a super old sketch that was rotting away in my unfinished drawings. Also I accidentally merged all my first panel layers onto a hard light one but the colors changed so nice I kept it. |

Cloudy Day - One Layer Watercolor painting
Just something simple to relax with. I utterly adore doing backgrounds and I am falling in love with the watercolor tool. This was done entirely with watercolor and one layer (minus the second layer for the signature). |
Squarewheel @ Sun Jun 02, 2019 3:37 am I love the colors! |
SnowStar @ Sun Jun 02, 2019 10:27 am
I'm happy you like it! I was worried that the colors might have been too dull, lately overly bright colors have been hurting my eyes. |
Lostfairy @ Sun Jun 02, 2019 2:05 pm
Ahhh, this is so PRETTYYY! How the heck did you do this masterpiece on only one layer?! |

A random flower drawing
I've wanted to try out drawing purple coneflower for a while now, and while i was at it i figured i may as well throw in some bachelor button plants as a foreground cover. I confess that i got lazy after that and just slapped in some random bushes and greenery as a background and give them all a blurred effect, hah! |
Swirlshine @ Sat Jun 08, 2019 9:06 am Ohhhh, but none of this looks lazy at all! Everything is STUNNING, wow, even the background!! You amaze me with your flower art - they always looks so PERFECT! ;-; <3 |

Cloud Practice
It's storming and thundering while I'm drawing, might as well have some cloud practice and fun before my battery dies. (where I live power surges are so common you never ant to plug anything in when it's storming). |

One Layer [watercolor] Background Tutorial - Part 3
based on this drawing by SnowStar
Step 5: Work from top to bottom, small brush size to large. The farther away an object is the smaller and less detail is required. Up The opacity from it's original 70 to something around 170+, and make sure you have a little smoothing on so nothing has a too sharp of an edge on it. You might need to test and undo a couple times until you find something you like. Just like with the clouds - color pick and brush up and out to get a nice grass blade look. Grass doesn't go all the same direction sometimes so let it go everywhere if you want. If you hand starts to hurt takes a break from it, grass can be a pain sometimes. As you work your way down slowly up the brush size. I went from a size 2 to eventually size 6-7 with my example panel. But once your done with the grass the picture is all nice and pretty and finished! |
One Layer [watercolor] Background Tutorial - Part 2
based on this drawing by SnowStar
Part 1 - Part 2 [you are here]
All those different colored stripes will be fluffed up into different colored clouds. Choose a color, and making sort of swirly motion up and out. You don't have to make all the clouds the exact same shape and size - play around and have some fun. I work from top to bottom but honestly do what you like. Things will blend together some - thats fine and great! It's one of the reasons I love using watercolor so much. This is kinda time consuming, just keep picking colors and keep swirling and fluffing up the clouds to your liking. If you think it's lacking in darker or lighter colors in the mix, as before just streak in some of the original color or white for a lighter look, color pick and swirl around to make some fluffy clouds. (part 3 for the grass is coming next. this pic along with it's description will be places along with part one so the full tutorial will be available all on one page.) |
Mountain Sunlight
Some practice? Most of it was done with the watercolor tool, but for the last details I used the air brush. |
~ Hawaii ~
A Couple weeks ago, i went on vacation to Hawaii. When i got back i was happy to be home, but i had so much fun in Hawaii and i was sad to have to leave so soon. (I Stayed 5 days but it went by super fast) and so i decided to draw something that reminded me of it, i Visited 3 different oceans and they were all so beautiful. This picture represents the waves, and the sunset and how beautiful it all was. |
