Quick Guide
by Spockylass @ Wed Nov 02, 2011 9:04 am [Reply]

Very quickly drawn guide that generalizes some of my horse drawing techniques. Someone asked for advice.
Really I"m no expert on horses. I just draw what I perceive. =P I do recommend drawing constantly, even if it's just stick figure, because you still get practice with range of motion. Drawing from pictures helps you understand how muscles and such react to position changes, and studying anatomy/skeletons helps you define underlying structure you'll probably find helpful in the long run.

But some of my observations:
1. The front leg bones of a horse aren't connected to the rest of the skeleton. Only muscles and tendons keep them attached.
2. The joint has two parts, where the top connects to the bottom. It's the bottom part that bends from the joint. At the shoulder, the leg goes up or to center. It doesn't go backwards as much as the joint.

I you don't want to go offline to get your info, you should really just use this tutorial that I've found more helpful and thorough:

I read a lot of books too. P:

This makes more sense :3 What are some of the books you've read? :3 I forgot to ask - What is a redline?

Spockylass @ Wed Nov 02, 2011 9:54 am

Let me dig up those books... I'll add the links to my first post. ;D
Redline is like this: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=854774
It's when another artist color over your work to show you how to improve it or how to set up the sketch. :)

You...
Are...
AMAZING. :D
This is very helpful! :3 Do you draw with a mouse?

::Exiled Wonder::
by breadstick @ Sat Oct 29, 2011 11:03 pm [Reply]

When Tigress had finally run away from the taunting crowd, she hung her head sadly. Being exiled was one bad thing; but how she was going to survive was another. She shuddered and sighed. She was blamed for murdering her best friend, Havoc, but she knew the horrible truth...it was never her who killed Havoc. It was Havoc's mate. She lifted her head and growled, the three new scars she had received through the exile process. She narrowed her eyes, keeping a determind face. "I will tell the truth...one way or another."

Well, the story more or less tells of the picture. My fursona exiled from her pack, blamed by her best friend, Havoc's, mate for killing Havoc, althought Havoc's mate killed her.

I am so proud of this picture. xD I managed to do a background, coloured it, too! I am really proud of Tigress, as well. Althought it did take me a long while...since I had to re-do this.

~Tigress (or MTL)

Tigress, art and story belongs to me.

My gosh! I love the backround, the story is so amazing, and the shading and coloring of the character, I don't know how you made such a wonderful picture and story!

breadstick @ Sat Oct 29, 2011 11:08 pm

Thanks so much! ^^
I have no idea how I did that. I just had Art Block, so...this came out.
...And the story...I dunno. xD

Fur Is Warmer Than A Blanket ♥
by blue.roses @ Sun Nov 06, 2011 2:08 am [Reply]

It's getting chilly, and though I am so excited to see the first snow (whenever that may be) I am not excited for the cold that comes with it. Burrr. x3 Anyways, I thought to make a winter-related picture, and this little wolf turned up. The eyes are a little big and evil looking for the innocent looking wolf, and I might change it later (y'know, shrink it x3) but for now I am generally happy with it. Any comments? Ooh, and this wasn't necessarily meant to be realistic, so please no major critique here. ^^

SukarettoYanagi @ Sun Nov 06, 2011 2:20 am

it looks so real, like an artic fox, not a wolf.*is mesmarized* ilove it.

That's true, I never thought about that, but it does look something like an arctic fox. Anyways, glad you like it. ^^

What's with all my Pokemon oekakies, you ask?

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

THE WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW!

Edited out the outline. Looks better, but still like crap. Thanks, Anna. c:

Sdlhf @ Sun Nov 06, 2011 2:17 am

lol. I suggest getting rid of the outline on the flames, to make them look more flamey :D

by .:Haley:. @ Sat Nov 05, 2011 4:00 pm [Reply]

Embarrassingly, the timer... is actually kind of accurate. TT___TT

Bulbasaur doubted his fighting skills, but now he's more confident.

Meh background... It's all, like, meh.

Redlines? Constructive criticism? Just criticism? Remarks about how I've disgraced the name of Pokemon by drawing this? Compli- No, no compliments. Why would anyone compliment THIS crap?

ALSO: Any help on the following topics related to drawing would be greatly appreciated:

    Shading
    Texture
    Layers
    Writing with a laptop mouse
How to draw something kind of realistic
How to draw something actually good
How to draw something that people can recognize and know what it is without having to have someone tell them
    How to draw at all
    How to use the oekaki
How to not clutter the boards with this crap
How to not fail at everything

Sdlhf @ Sun Nov 06, 2011 2:13 am

Haley, this is not a fail! Yes it's not perfect, no one's drawings are, and I can tell you really put effort into this. The next time you come over, I can give you tips while showing you. I'm afraid I'm not too good with textures and drawing with a laptop pad is really hard, but hopefully I can help. You're a great artist, but it's only halfway shining through.

Izza Ghost Teddy Bear
by absolzzz @ Sat Nov 05, 2011 1:45 pm [Reply]

My friend calls me her teddy bear (who knows why). My friend Jake was texting me and somehow I started talking about Stitch eating people, (because I'm weird like that), and said that he ate me. So now I'm a ghost teddy bear. Boo!

I'll colour the background later.... when I get the time. Anyway... any comments?

Redline! :) based on this drawing by jules_
by ↫mars↬ @ Sun Nov 06, 2011 1:45 am [Reply]

Alrighty, what do I have to say...

1. Make sure your muzzle isn't too short compared to the rest of the body. Wolves actually have a thin and long muzzle.
2. Their 'ankle' isn't that thin, so make sure you don't slope don too much.
3. The legs are not that much larger on the top at all. Also, they do not slope backwards so it has a weird arch to it.
4.The paws, though larger in the front, don't have a bump like that, also, they can't really stand like that either. Make sure you have the paw facing the 'audience' when you draw a stance like this. The back paws are the same way. Try not to make the back paws bigger than the front ones. Make it more of an allusion, to make them look the same size. (if that makes any sense XD)
5. Use this guide for your tails. These tail postitions have the meaning of them underneath. In my redline, its the relaxed position.
Image

WOA! Just noticed that i put two '4's on there XD oops.. I'll tell you about the ears XD
Ears. This would help A LOT.
Image
Not only are there different emotions for different ear positions, there are different styles as well. If you notice, the ear sort of has three layers to it. The inside layer that has the fur, the first outside layer that has an extra coat to it, and then the back layer. The back layer has a bump in it so it actually sits on top of the head.

Extra Tips:
Use refrances!
The difference between 'using a ref' and 'copying' are actually quite simple. If it is a real picture like this, then you are so-called, safe. But if it is a real drawing like this, then your picture could be locked by a mod. Be careful! :)

((I am not perfect. My redline is off in many ways, but I hope this helps you.))
