Candy Monster
by Lokirin @ Wed Oct 26, 2011 10:23 am [Reply]

The candy monster is a unique creature in that it is composed entirely of sweets and sugary treats. It uses the sticks on its lollipop leg to feel around for dropped candy, which it then puts into its bucket. With its long trunk-like tongue it then scoops the candy into its mouth, where it is absorbed into the creature. As the creature amasses more and more candy, its own weight causes the sweets to become mailable, allowing it to move more freely in search of more sugar filled food.
Trying to steal candy from this beast is ill advised, as it is equipped with a scorpion-like tail, composed of carmel and lollipops, that inject a hypersweet substance that can send any living creature into a coma. For further protection, the tail is also equipped with eyes.
To keep this terrifying beast away, it is advised to eat any candy given to you, and give away the candy you don't want. The candy beast is usually a solitary creature, as they tend to eat one another.

I kept seeing people with candy guardians, so I decided to make a candy monster C:
It seems to like hanging around Miraci, taking all the candy she finds.

Ninetales ^^
by Miko <3 @ Mon Jul 26, 2010 10:11 am [Reply]

Well, here's my first Oekaki ever. My tablet is stupid and doesn't work with this well. The strokes are delayed by a little bit. But, I think it turned out pretty well overall. Couldn't figure out how to do grass, so I settled on making a quick background of blue. Messing with the smudge tool. Oh, and I already know that the shading on the Ninetales is fairly poor, but practice makes perfect! Always open for critique!

Based off of this sprite

Redlined for Shadow ^^ based on this drawing by rick.and.shorty
by Kite @ Sat Nov 05, 2011 5:46 pm [Reply]

Hi there! I though, overall, this was actually fairly good at first, even before the redline! Here are some small (but detailed) pointers on drawing dogs and wolves:

The main problem here was the back legs, which were too stiff, and needed to be elongated, and the head, which was a tad too big, unless you were going for the cartoonism effect. The tail also needed to be a bit bigger, and the feet flatter because they are being stood on, and the weight of the body is pressing them down.

One way to get a good head start on drawing a sketch is to draw the basic body shapes in ovals, like i showed here. There is one main body cirlce which is pretty much round, depending on the position that the wolf is in, and then two ovals for shoulders and back thighs beside it, where the legs are attached. Above the front shoulder blade is a little bump sticking up where its arm moves back and forth. The tail is just relative, and can really be anywhere from as short as the main body circle, to as long as the whole wolfs body, not including the neck. Speaking of the neck... since the wolf (or dog, im just calling it a wolf) has a scruff on its neck to keep warm, and just because of its dense chest fur, the chest has to be puffed out a little more, to make it seem fuzzier.

Around the outside of the actual redline, I drew some pointers on other body angles/parts. On the bottom left is a closeup of the eye, which you can't really see on here very well, but for future reference, the (realistic) wolf eye is more in the shape of an egg than a harsh-lined shape. It can change from where the wolf is looking; for example, if the wolf is looking up, the eye will come to more of a point on the top, and get bigger. if it's looking to the side, it will come the a point the opposite side it is looking towards. (confusing, right?)

Next to that is the front body shot, which isnt very important. I was just trying to show the relative size of the ears to the head, and the leg length to the body height. Above that is the side head shot, which shows the position of the eye, and length of the nose relative to its head. I didn't make the head have a lower lip jutting out underneath the top of the jaw, but there is one xD (sorry bout that!) The eye is actually pretty small compared to the rest of the wolf, and so is the nose, which sticks out a tiny bit from the mouth. The ears are a little bigger as well, which isnt as important, since the ear size of dogs and wolves can actually vary quite a bit, especially in dogs.

I also wrote some tips in (as you can probably tell xD) and I apologize for my awful handwriting; it's hard to write with a mousepad! Some of them include bending the back down a bit, because in your lineart the back is a straight line across, whereas it usually slopes down towards the haunches. Also, the nose is bent down, and then goes up again at the nose, creating some depth to the realism of the face. The body was a bit long, so I shortened it, and the feet have to be flatter.

Anyways, I will stop my incessant rambling, so you can stop reading it xD
Hope this helped a bit! <3, neonkiwi

Susiron @ Sat Nov 05, 2011 5:58 pm

This is actually a pretty decent redline, especially around the front legs and body shape.
I'm also happy to see someone get the eyes right.

But a couple of things-- the wolf should have a chin. Wolf faces are very angular, but his lower jaw shouldn't disappear into his jowl completely. : U -- http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2716/419 ... f0bd59.jpg
The paws are also very strange, with random toes. -- viewtopic.php?f=33&t=858593

While you seem to have the anatomy of the forelegs pretty well done, your hind legs are very stiff. Try bringing the knee forward, and making the slope at the back of the femur/shin more extreme. C:

i have trouble with feet, and these are probably the worst feet i have ever drawn, so yes, i completely agree with you

Ah, I have ADD and only skim-read, so I must have skipped over it. xDD
Completely understandable, though-- I'm the opposite-- I usually do too much chin, LOL

Feet can sure be a real pain. x3 -- At least they're easier than human hands, though, oh boy. xD

Travel by Smoke
by Susiron @ Fri Nov 04, 2011 8:13 pm [Reply]

To anyone that's noticed my signature icon that says "Always Guilty" with that strange little creature, that's relative to this picture. I am currently working on a novel series called "Guilt", so I run with any guilt-related puns a LOT. xD
The creature in my siggy icon is my OC, Ineo. She's literally "mother nature" in my story.

Okay, down to explaining the actual image with ze giant wolf.
And this wolf is actually a little smaller for his species, mind you. He is a Royal wolf, or a ginormous, draft horse like wolf. They're highly intelligent, and extremely stubborn.
This particular wolf's name is Smoke Trail (Smoke for short, hence the title.) He's pretty small for a Royal because there is domestic canine blood in his lineage. This is also why his colours are so dog-like.
His father, having domestic canine in his bloodlines is actually the smallest full grown Royal wolf in their pack, and has a coat like Smoke, only speckled at the tone change. His mother is a regular, dark grey Royal wolf, yet is a little undersized-- but this is because she is a runt, not because of blood.
His brother, Shicki, is completely white, but for various black patches and spots (lol, cow colours.)

And as for the Humanoid riding him, he's Darius, an Avian (winged person.)
You've all seen my avatar, and he's the one on the right! ;3 -- Yes, he's homosexual. Hater's gonna hate. o u o

There's a little blood on them, as they just came out from a huge scrap. xD
There'd be more blood on the poor fellas, but it rains all the time in their country, so it's been washed away.

Characters copyright to me.
"Guilt" is copyright to me.

Front leg tutorial
by PuddingShark @ Sun Nov 06, 2011 8:41 am [Reply]

Remeber to make the leg bend backwards
Try to sketch out the 'Bone' of your drawings leg before you draw the outer shell
-It helps for shape
-Structure
It helps to do a bump at the top of the leg, so it looks like the drawing has muscle
-Looks more realistic
-Again, helps with structure of leg(s)

Hope this helps! :3

redlines yaey |D based on this drawing by Nonia
by summer monday @ Sun Nov 06, 2011 7:05 am [Reply]

some redlines for Nonia c:
i wasn't sure what style you were going for, so i picked something between cartoon and realistic. your sketch was better than a lot that i've seen, but i just have a few things to point out x3

- the snout isn't as thick, and the forehead doesn't drop as far
- watch your stomach; it isn't perfectly flat
- the tail doesn't appear until after the back leg! yours comes before your back leg x3

really, i think that's it; you're already a very skilled artist ♥

also, just as a note, this canine's physique is very German shepherdesque, what with the face and sloping back, but not all wolves are like that. like i said, search for references! they're the best way to learn xx

Firedragon2009 @ Sun Nov 06, 2011 7:40 am

I just wanted to say that like you said the tail doesn't come out until after the back leg but if it is curled you can see it on this picture ;3

summer monday @ Sun Nov 06, 2011 7:43 am

lol, you're totally right; it hadn't registered to me it was a curled tail. hum, i must be slow today ;-;
anyway, thanks for pointing that out ♥
