Another doodle of this guy here. He's still in desperate need of a name.

Once I get that I'll come up with some lore and a reference sheet for him.

Pokefusion challenge
by bananer @ Sat Feb 22, 2020 2:05 am [Reply]

Aight, what is this abomination you may wonder and I had an idea I thought might be fun which also alreadi might have already been done.

Use the random pokemon fusion generator, and then choose one which tickels you fancy, and then create one or to evolutions or de-evolutions for it! So this is my Pokéfusion-challenge!

001
Cholder Water/Fire
This chick-like pokemon have a tiny fire smoldering inside its protective shell. The chick can keep ponds from freezing in winter making it a very popular pokémon among water-living critters.

002
Chicknite Water/Fire
Chicknite will if given the chance spar with other of its kind to strengthen its legs. The legs will be used to dig in the sediment for nutrients.

003
Omaltres Water/Fire

Today's valid reminder that I really need to practice perspectives and backgrounds,,
Mm, quick something for a choose your own adventure story I've been working on to try to win a keldine I adore. It's pretty much the only thing I've had time to do recently since I'm in the thick of moving. So, I'm sorry about lack of art posts and even more sorry to those waiting for commissions, it's a little hectic, but I'll hopefully have that stuff to you soon!

Beast description wrote:It's ten time's my size and it's legs barely fit on the concrete bridge, fitting perfectly on the boundaries between the chasm and safety. It's black as night and the saliva dripping from its jaws are tinged with flecks of gold. It has four eyes, two set above the first and each and every one of them seem to not look at me but into me.

Thought I'd try one of these too:

It's for the 400th keldine! It's still going on - Saubek gave several very generous extensions, which I'm grateful for,,

by SummerSunset @ Fri Sep 04, 2020 4:07 pm [Reply]

I'm doing a bit of work in my dragons.

Either way, I might finish it completely to make a new OC.
This is mainly just a practice thing, but either way, I might edit it a bit then color it.

Panda heads!! based on this drawing by raditz
by SpeedyJay @ Fri Aug 28, 2020 11:31 am [Reply]

Hmmmmm...

Image + Image = Image ?

Seriously though, that's pretty much it. The grizzly has a long muzzle, and very dog-like nose, but the panda has a smushed muzzle and a very cat-like nose. Body-wise the panda is somewhat more stubby than the grizzly as well.

I will post more info on the body and limbs when I get the chance to study them! Was just able to make an alright attempt at the body based on what I know about cats/dogs + humans.

------
Notes + Proportions
------

I think the head in the most important part to study first. I use the head as a measurement tool for the rest of the body's
proportions. "How thick are the legs in comparison to the head? How many heads tall? How many heads is the distance from
the elbow to the knee?"
Just a note for when I eventually show panda bods.

---

- I've added you to the drawing if you would like to try practicing on top of these. If you do so, I recommend you practice the major and minor shapes of each sketch. Tracing over the just outlines of a finished drawing will often not help you to understand the major forms of anything. Try taking all the major shapes, and when you're used to those, try to put them together on your own. Repeat this process with the minor shapes afterwards.
(Idk if anyone else would like to be added, but if so, be my guest lol)

- 9 times out of 10, for a panda head, you should start with a somewhat more oval shape rather than a circle. Their face has a very steep slope. See above for what orientation the ovals should be in.
On the 3/4th view I used a circle, but that was just to make it easier to draw in perspective --unfortunately it definitely looks more toony. The forehead should probably come up higher, and the eyes somewhat smaller.

- From the front view, the muzzle takes up about 1/2 of the face. But from the side view, it appears to take up nearly 2/3rds. Note there is also a little v or u-shaped dip where the muzzle connects to the face; visible in the front view and the side view.

- Nose is kitty-like

- In most images I saw, the size of the ear and placement of the eye has a direct correlation with the muzzle, or the nose in certain views. Look at the green lines I set in all of the mid-way sketches; these are the measurements I'm talking about. A lot of these measurements and angles are seen in other mammals as well.
If necessary, I can make the green lines different colors and make them clearer, I notice some of them converge in awkward angles or were faded when I sized them up.

- Ears are rather round in profile, but have a few more angles to them in other views. See above.

- Remember that the eye spot looks very different in other views, see above.

- The three-quarter view has an explanation that features should line up at the same angle, it's just simple perspective. For a more in-depth explanation on perspective, see here!

- Since I don't have a good grasp on panda bodies yet, I will work on that and post it later. If you want, you can look here and watch how to draw grizzly bodies in the mean time--I'm going to study this as well. "but it's 2 hours long! :(" oh yeah I know lol

If there is anything I didn't cover, or covered poorly, let me know and I can try to explain it better! ^^

*kicks myself for spelling pivot right and wrong on the same page*
Sorry I took forever, & I hope this is can help at all. ^^''

I left the most important notes on the drawing,,, I think. I'll leave a few under here:

--------

Notes

- I never see a panda that isn't slouching significantly worse than even I do while drawing.

- Distance/length from the head-to-left-side-of-the-shoulder is about the same as the length from the chest-to-hind.

- The height of the head (chin to ear from this angle), is about the same as the height of the heel and the arm.

- Again, the height of the head + another 1/3rd of that height is about the height of the body/torso.

- From the direct side view, the red circles/pivots align (Shoulder & hips). When you draw one limb, draw/sketch through and use the established pivots to draw the limb on the other side of the body.

- The legs of the panda (and other bears) resemble a human's much more than a canine/feline.

- Probably use videos instead of images for reference, (pause on a good shot) I should've done that. The anatomy is so hard; these guys just look like they're melting all the time. I would recommend always finding clear reference to study, but a lot of the image references I found were kind a same-y.

- Let me know if something should be explained better. I can also breakdown another full-body pose if you want; just suggest one and I can make an attempt. ^^

hey! so for me, i don't usually do lineless art haha - but i make a sketch first, lower the opacity a lot, and just continue from there. i use a lot of layers like a layer for the mask, the ear, the ear fluff, the collar, and then the body. if you have any other questions, feel free to send me a pm c':
