its a beach, so obviously it stays sunny when you can help it. you keep the sky light and the sand warm and the water pleasant, free of trash and things that wish to hurt. of course you have to make it rain
occasionally to keep the balance going, but it never lasts long. a good thunderstorm only needs a few hours to get the job done. even your day-night cycle was created to maximize the amount of sunlight. it doesnt get dark here.

it is today, though. youre not even the one who decided to make it this way. (that alone is enough to freeze you, terrified, tensed for danger. that isnt possible. it isnt possible, yet here you are.) youre fairly sure the reason for this sudden darkness sits at the edge of the water, head bent and sobbing with enough force it sounds like it hurts. it doesnt occur you to pin your fear on him. it doesnt occur you to be afraid of your best friend, why would it?

(you shouldve been worried, you think much later, cradling your face in your claws. you shouldve been.)
