Story Summary:
The story starts in the POV of the Maine character of this story, Casper/Zero. Then the story is lead partially by one of the other characters. In these chapters on this post, are about Casper adventuring with 4 other herd members from his herd on the farm property! The herd slowly splits up down to just Casper who adventures alone eventually.

Zero's Night Time Adventure (Part 1) - Chapter #1:

(POV: Casper)
One afternoon I was watching the humans. It looked like a few of them that lives on the property, were loading up their truck for one of their long trips. After they had finished loading the truck, one of them walked up to the pasture gait. She fed each of us our favorite treats. She then opened the gait and let a few of us out. She had told us; "Go, go on one of your long adventures, while we're on our own adventure!" Four others and I had trotted off immediately to begin our adventures. Most of the herd usually stays to be taken care of the humans that stay behind and help with farm chores. Falcon, Sheriff EJ, Aero, Giselle and I stuck together as we started our adventure. The five of us trotted through a forest for half an hour. We then stopped at a river for a drink and to nibble on tall fresh green grass. Sheriff EJ and Falcon waded in the water together while Aero, Giselle and I enjoyed the grass for a long period. I think after I grazed for over ten minutes, went to join Sheriff EJ and Falcon in the river. After a couple more minutes, Aero and Giselle joined us.

Aero walked up to Casper then asked; "So what are all of your guys plans? Giselle and I might go visit our wild herd." Casper looked at Falcon and Sheriff EJ then back at Aero then said; "Honestly, I have no clue. I guess just roam and travel around." Aero replied; "We may stick with you guys for just a little longer until we catch scent of location to our herd. Then we will part ways! Sound like a good enough plan?" Casper, Falcon and Sheriff all nodded in agreement. Aero then gave a wiff at the wind to get an idea of what direction the herd just might be. He then said; "It seems faint, and hard to tell if they were in the area the past days or they're a small distance away. Let's start our travel this direction!" Aero then started to canter towards the mountains. The five of us then traveled towards the mountains following Aero. Aero took lead for a bit while they cantered through a meadow on the way to the mountains. Aero was catching no difference in the scent of Giselle's and his herd.

An hour of cantering through the meodow, when Aero finally had a better idea where the herd was. Aero perks his ears then says; "It seemed they might be further in the mountains and perhaps the reason I struggle to locate them. So it might be a little more time before we can reach them as we'll need to travel up the mountain!" Casper canted up to Aero then asked; "Sha'll we take a break by the lake ahead then?" Aero nodded in agreement. Aero grinned then looked at Casper then said; "Wanna race there?" Casper reared up then Aero reared as well, and the two dashed, leaving behind Giselle, Falcon and Sheriff EJ. The three then dropped their pace to just a trot and let the two have their fun. Aero and Casper raced side by side at near equal pace almost the entire way to the lake. They even tied once they both reached the lake beach. They stopped to take a long drink while they waited on the rest to catch up. Ten minutes had passed by time the other three arrived at the lake beach. The three stepped into the river for a drink while Casper and Aero walked over to the lush green grass for a snack.


Zero's Night Time Adventure (Part 2) - Chapter #2:

Chapter Main Characters:

The five had rested at the lake for half an hour after the three arrived after Casper and Aero. Aero started to sniff at the wind again as it was time to continue their journey towards Giselle's and his wild herd. Aero stands confused as he tries to figure out what direction they could be. Giselle then walked up to Aero and said; I think they might be up that rocky mountain. Maybe the snow is making it difficult to track from afar." Casper walks back to the water for a moment for another drink. Then he joins the five again. Giselle then takes the lead. Giselle looks at the other three then says; "You guys still want to stick together with us, then split in the morning?" They nodded in agreement then Giselle started with a trot. Falcon and Sheriff EJ trotted side by side behind Casper, Giselle and Aero who trotted right behind Giselle. The herd had traveled for five minutes when suddenly Giselle stopped to get a steady scent. She twitched one of her ears then started to trot more to the left as she had caught scent of the direction the herd may be.

(POV: Giselle)
I had lead the other four for over an hour now, and getting darker out. I begun to recognize the area, then I realized that our herd might be in an area I stayed with the herd one year. I stopped then looked back at my partial barn herd and said; "I know where we are now. We can rest nearby then split up in the morning!" Aero trotted up to me then said; "I remember this area as well. So where is this spot you have on mind?" I giggled then lead the way, starting with a trot. I lead them through the edge of the forest next to the meadow my herd may be near. A few minutes later, we had arrived at a huge cave with a lot of grass. Casper trotted ahead of me and started to nibble at the grass just outside the cave.

(POV: Casper)
I cantered into the cave up to the cave entrance excitedly. I then dropped my pace to a trot as I entered to check out the entrance of the cave. It was too dark to see, but I cant smell anything that would be a threat. So I plopped down and begun to roll around in the grass inside of the cave. I then rolled back over to my belly, and begun to nibble at the grass. The other four had finally joined me in the cave. Giselle and Aero approached me, then Giselle said; "This is where my mother used to bring me to sleep sometimes when I was just a foal. So I thought it might be a nice spot to rest tonight. I thought that you'd like it here!" I looked up at Giselle and grinned then begun to nibble at the grass again.

Sheriff EJ stood closest to the entrance of the cave and took first shift to take watch while the rest had rested for some time. Sheriif EJ paced a little outside the cave as the next couple of hours had passed by. It had been two hours, so Giselle took over while Sheriff EJ went to rest for his traveled tomorrow. Casper was standing partially near the entrance half asleep just a couple of feet away from Aero who was fully out. Sheriff EJ joined Falcon further back in the cave where it was pitch black. Three hours hours had gone by with Giselle on watch, then Aero took over for the rest of the night. A few more hours had gone by and it was morning. The herd had said their farewells for the time, until they all rejoin the farm property herd. Giselle and Aero trotted of towards the direction they assume their herd may be. While Casper lead the way for the next day.

The Travelers (Part 1) - Chapter #3:

Chapter Main Characters:

- Falcon

After Casper, Falcon and Sheriff EJ had said their farewells to Aero and Giselle, they started on their travels. The three planned on sticking together for a while longer. Casper, Falcon and Sheriff EJ, headed for the lake again to freshen up for their travels. Casper lead the way to the lake, at a trot. After about five minutes trotting, Casper picked up his pace to a canter. Sheriff EJ immediately picked up a canter as Casper did, and had passed up Casper. While little Falcon had to do a faster canter, just to keep up with the big boys. Half an hour goes by, by time the trio had slowed back down to a trot to take it easy the rest of their way to the lake. Casper kept at a fast trot, while Sheriff EJ slowed down to do a slow trot alongside his mate Falcon. Sheriff EJ nuzzled Falcon and grinned at her, while distance grew between Casper and the two. About around twenty minutes had gone by, before they arrived at the lake they stopped at the previous day with Aero and Giselle. Casper was still a long ways ahead, so he had made it to the lake before Falcon and Sheriff EJ had caught up with Casper.

Casper was already wading in the lake, water up to his belly. Casper looked back at Falcon and Sheriff EJ and said; "About time you slowpokes got here!" He smirked at the two, then trotted out. Casper shook his head and body, splattering water all over Falcon and Sheriff EJ. Falcon and Sherrif EJ giggled, then chased Casper back into the lake. The three of them trotted around the shore of the lake, splashing about. After a few minutes, they finally step out to nibble on some grass for the next half hour. After half an hour of grazing, Casper plopped down in the lush grasas then begun to roll around. While Falcon and Sheriff EJ had entered the lake for a small stroll while they lapped at the water between their conversation for the next ten minutes. Casper got up after laying around in the grass for ten minutes, then went to enjoy some water again before the three of them continue on their travels again. Casper looked at the two strolling and wading in the lake, then steps in for a sip. He sighed happily as he enjoyed the perfect cool warmth and the refreshing lake water.

(POV: Casper)
I waded in the water for a while longer, letting Sheiff EJ and Falcon enjoy their alone time. The deserved some time alone before we start our travels again. So I decided to just take my own stroll in the lake, but the opposite direction. I slowly walked deeper into the lake, getting further from shore, and further from the two. I then stopped to stand in the water while it was almost covering my back. I then started to enjoy some more sips of water while I watched the reflection of the clouds moving slowly. The clouds rippled in the water while I lapped away at the water. After a few minutes, I started to move back towards the shore. I slowly continued the opposite direction. After a couple or minutes, I was only about a foot deep in the shore water, and begun to trot and kick the water around. I then started to canter, enjoying the splashing around at my body. I then started to do wild splashes, forming walls of water, and some even taller than me myself. After a few minutes, I stepped out of the water to start grazing at the grass again for the next ten minutes.


The Travelers (Part 2) - Chapter #4:

(POV: Sheriff EJ)
Falcon and I had been strolling for a while alone, while Casper wandered off on his own in the lake. Falcon and I are still enjoying a stroll in the lake. I perked my head up, and looked around for Casper to see him a distance away, but close enough to still see him. I then looked back at Falcon and nuzzled her face then said; "Want to snack on some more of the lush sweet grass?" She knicked at me and trotted ouf of the water, beating me to the tallest grass patch. I grinned and followed her to the patch of grass she had chosen. We nibbled at the grass for a while, slowly minute by minute, inching our way towards Casper.

After about ten minutes, Falcon and Sheriff EJ walked up to Casper. Casper looked up at the two, then asked; "Sooo, you guys ready for a good ol run through the meadows?" Sheriff EJ looked around then asked; "sure, but in what direction, should be start heading for our next adventure?" Casper paused and thought for a moment to himself. Falcon and Sheriff continued to nibble at the grass while the three thought on what direction they should travel. A few minutes go by while Casper looked in each direction in deep thought. He perked his ear then said "Oh, I know! How about that meadow, but go in the opposite direction of here and home? I've never adventured that way before!" Sheriff EJ looked in the direction Casper was looking. Sheriff EJ then looked at Falcon to see if she is down. She nodded, then the three of them begun their journey through a large meadow.

(POV: Casper)
I reared up and started our next jounrey with a canter. I ran through the lake shore for one last splash while we headed towards the meadow. I kicked and bucked through the water, splashing Falcon and Sheriff EJ. We ran through the small forest alongside the lake.

So, funny story, my mom and dad used to be friends with an oil painter named Randall Ogle. He painted landscapes of the Smoky Mountains. In each of his paintings, he would put a bird in the sky which represented himself. Once he got married, he would put 2 birds in the sky to represent himself and his wife. When they had a child, he would put 3 birds in the sky to represent his whole family. The 3 birds in your beautiful painting reminded me of him, and I always found it cute that he did that.
