"Didn't think we'd need to make a big ceremony for a newcomer. Sounds like something lesser clans would do, don't you think?" Antiphonus' face was unamused as he looked towards Eldoris, who looked back with a great smile on his face. "Perhaps, Antiphonus, but you're just not seeing it the way that I do! I've invited a cat into Empyra with the promise of a grand entrance, and I've promised my people that I shall attempt to make things more... lively. Kills two bird with one stone, don't you think?" The two looked out to the city, watching as storkies of all kinds scrambled around to prepare for the newcomer, ribbons, streamers, balloons, and confetti. Everything that one would want for a celebration of any sort.

"Yes, your greatness, but this cat aren't they supposed to be lower class? To celebrate someone such as that, that's-" "It's encouragement to the others, Antiphonus." Eldoris interrupted the blood storkie, lifting himself off of his chair and walking close to the window to witness his colony from his vantage point. "If we celebrate one, the others might work harder in order to get some appreciation themselves." Eldoris looked at his friend, being met only with confusion. He sighed. "You still don't get it, do you Antiphonus?" The red and black storkie looked away, not meeting with the other's eyes. Eldoris moved to grab a small parchment from the wall, placing it between the two cats and the window.

The parchment was a grand illustration of Eldoris in the years long past, waving to a crowd while flowers were tossed around into the air. Antiphonus looked at the paper, and then to Eldoris once more, knowing that the leader was going to explain in more detail. "When you celebrate others, they will want to celebrate you. You give a sliver of attention and care to those who are deprived it, and they see you as the best thing that's ever happened to them. Especially if they rescue you from something much worse than whatever you could be associated with." On cue, Eldoris lifted his paw to point, and Antiphonus followed it to see a group of cloaked cats carrying a box between them, shuffling through the crowds with no resistance or acknowledgement. Antiphonus squinted before he was able to make a clear line of sight to what the cats were holding. Fireworks, and powerful ones at that.

Antiphonus grinned at the sight, turning to Eldoris again, seemingly both pleased and calmed. "Oh, you sneaky devil. You almost scared me there, thought you went soft on these fools." Antiphonus laughed, lightly tapping the other's chest fur in a playful manner. Eldoris laughed in response, leaning in closer to his friend and putting his tail around him. "Oh, never in my years, Antiphonus. And you needn't worry a thing. I've made sure no full citizen and no pardoned unseeable one will be in any danger, including your boyfriend and his sister." Antiphonus only smiled more at that, knocking his head into the other's affectionately. "Dang, Eldoris. If I didn't know better, would've thought it was my birthday."

Eldoris grinned wide. "Oh, if you enjoy this, I'm sure we can set up something much... bigger for your birthday. Perhaps bring in a few newcomers at once, see how big the fireworks can get." Antiphonus' smile became fond, despite the words causing it being ones vaguely horrific. "Oh, you always know what I'd like best, Eldoris."

[ Sunken Depths ]

[circa. The Early Ages of The New Technological Era..]
Fire crackled, the radiant oranges and yellows lighting up the starry night, flooding the air with smoke. Flax stared, eyes glazed over as if they had just been crying, only to run out of tears.

They sat next to a fairly large metal box, littered with buttons and blinking lights, the metal covered in a light layer of soot. This box was one of the only things to have survived from the colony that was about to be lost to time. The colony that had been known to be pretty technologically advanced. A colony quite a few Storkies didn't understand. Flax and this machine, a machine with a peculiar stone that seemed to float unharmed...

[Earlier that night...]

Flax laughed loudly, sitting with a small group at one of the diorite tables. It was break time for the smart ones. Flax didn't like the title 'scientist', but that was closest thing they could be called to what they did. They were a researcher and an experimenter, that was for sure. Pushing their glasses back up on the bridge of their muzzle, Flax stood up, stretching a bit.

"Look, I've got to get back to work," They chuckled softly, their best friend, an albino metal magic Storkie, looked at them.

"Only for a little longer? Come on, we've been in the books all day." She shook her head, "Flaxseed, you're going to work yourself to death, one day."

Flax just rolled their eyes, playfully, of course. "If I'm not working, I don't know who I'd be. I'll see you back at the lab."

[...]

"Flaxseed.. Are you sure it'll work this time?"

Flax tightened a bolt, staying silent. They listened to the tics of the many clocks that were in the room, tapping the glass of the half-orb they tightened onto the metal box. They agitated a orange glowing stone. This stone.. One that was said to have some sort of time magic stored in it.

"I promise it'll work, Boo. It has to, this time. I've researched every little flaw it could have had. It'll work."

Flax had lost something. Someone. Boo... She looked just like them. Pulling down their goggles, Flax set the box down on a pedestal, attaching all kinds of wired to the box from the pedestal. After a few button presses and lever pulls, Flax took a step back. The room had a hue of orange and yellows that came from the strange time machine they had built.

Unbeknownst to Flax, there was too much power.. Once they pressed that final button...

[... An Explosion ...]

[The present moment...]

Flax didn't know how long they had just been sitting there staring at the orange and yellow hues that haunted them. The moon was now at the mid point, hidden behind smoke from the dying fire. Everything was gone. All their work, their friends.. Boo.. They were gone again; they lost another Boo.

Eventually, Flax stood up, clipping the machine to their back. They weren't coming back. They were leaving behind another failed attempt. It was time they found a new colony to live in. Maybe this new colony could get rid of the flaws that were still present in their research.

So Flax set off. They were about to find the place the lost always end up; The Sunken Depths.

For the longest time they could think back to, they’d always stuck to a large, winged tabby who adorned himself with bells. He’d never really spoken to them much aside from checking if they were still alive, although they knew his name was Eyeris, at least. Despite the winged tabby’s objections, the kitten made it known that they were going to stick to him like glue. Eventually, however, Eyeris begrudgingly accepted the kitten would pester him to no end. As long as the kitten didn’t get in his way with jobs, then Eyeris would put up with them.
“Eyeris! Can you play a game with me?” They asked, giving a tilt of their head. Eyeris shook his head.
“No, I have work to do. Please go play with someone else.” Eyeris replied.
“C’mon, there isn’t anyone else!” The kitten replied, pouting. “Please?”
“I said no.” Eyeris replied more firmly. “I won’t give you a third chance to ask again. Go find someone else to play with.”
They clearly weren’t happy with this response, although they wandered off to find something to play with.

After a few months, though, Eyeris was starting to get a little tired of them.

“C’mon, kid, you can’t stick around here forever.”
The jingle of a bell could be heard as the smaller kitten curled themself up, giving a huff. “I don’t wanna go, though.”
“Unfortunately you’ll have to leave.” Eyeris’ voice was quiet. “Even though you don’t want to.”
The kitten huffed in response, tapping their paws on the ground. Whatever Eyeris said, even if they didn’t want to.. The large winged tabby stood up from where he was settled, glancing over to the kitten.
“Well, if you don’t want to leave, I’ll have to ensure you do myself.” He walked off, emitting another bell chime, and the kitten could hear him mumble ‘you’re nothing but trouble, I swear’..
They rested their head on their paws, looking over to where the god cat had gone off to before managing to doze off.


When they woke, they weren’t where they’d fallen asleep. They were tucked under some bushes, the sky dimly lit with the early morning sunlight. “Eyeris..?” They asked, although they received no response. So this was what he must’ve meant when he said he would make sure they left.. It was more than just a little upsetting, though.
Giving a pout, they got to their feet, shaking the leaf and branch scrap from their fur. They probably should get moving, to find somewhere to hide. Maybe they’d find someone else to stay with for a while. Without much more thinking, they got to walking.

It felt like forever, and their paws were starting to hurt. Couldn’t he have at least given them somewhere nicer to walk around? The forest was hurting their paws..
The ground eventually turned into stone, as they walked up a mountain pathway. The air seemed to get a little chilly, and they suppressed a shudder.
They startled as they heard someone running over to them, clearly surprised. “Hey, kid! Are you lost?”
The kitten paused for a moment. “..I dunno. I just woke up in the forest.”
The stranger, a pale feathered tabby, clearly looked sympathetic. “Well, c’mon, kid. At least for a bit so you can warm up a little.”
They paused before they nodded, following behind the feathery cat.
“You have a name?”
There was another pause before they replied. “...I think it’s Trouble. I’unno.”
