This kitten cools off from the heat by coming to the clan center to lay on this big, cool, flat rock! It's very nice and chilly, and they like to roll on their back and sides to effectively chill themselves. It's under some nice trees which creates a good amount of shade-- so it doesn't get too hot, and not many other cats bother to frequent this spot because of the sunning rocks so nearby-- but this kitten has a low heat tolerance and so they much prefer this chillier spot!

Develop their personality: Kuru is a very proud and haughty raptor. He believes himself to be quite wise, though his decisions and actions are not always the best for the pack. He is, however, a gentle soul deep down and willing to come to the aid of any pack member who needs him. He is charismatic and bright, which makes others quite willing to follow his lead in many situations. He has strong aspirations, which leads him to aim higher than is necessary when it comes to things like territory and pack size. While most raptors would be quite content with their lot in his pack, he wants more. Unfortunately, this has put his pack in grave danger as he has rushed headlong into fights without thought for strategy. It becomes clear then, that he is not a strategic raptor and does not have a mind for much patient thought before taking action.


Give them a history:
Kuru was born in a different pack than the one he resides in currently. His pack lived in a desert area, but unfortunately they were defeated and chased out of their territory by a larger pack. He and his pack were forced to leave for greener spaces. Unfortunately, as they had only known the ways of desert life, they found themselves lost as they reached the plains and forests. Kuru was quite young at the time, not an adult yet, but not a baby anymore either.
The pack entered the plains, unaware that they were being watched. As they moved about, they got further from the safety of the trees. It was then that the carnotaurus trio attacked. The adults were slaughtered mercilessly and Kuru and his two sisters fled. They reached the safety of the trees and watched in horror as their family was killed. It was then that they spotted a stranger raptor racing through the carnage, dodging the carnos despite bleeding heavily.
She reached the trees and the carnos turned away, going back for their ample meal. Kuru led his sisters through the trees, following the blood trail that the stranger left until they found her, collapsed on the ground. Anxiously they stood over her, before deciding to roll in the dust to stem the bleeding from their wounds.
It was there that they waited, watching, Kuru insisting they stay and hope that this adult would wake. He and his sisters did not know enough about hunting in this area to survive on their own. They would need a mentor. And so they waited.

Write or draw a scene of your raptor interacting with your lead:
Kuru had watched over the years as his friend and leader had grown old. After her encounter with the deinosuchus she had grown too weak to continue leading the pack. It had hurt him when she approached him that day, her head low, her body appearing disjointed and broken. They sat together above the nesting grounds, watching the youngest members of the pack play just outside the entrance. Zitala looked him in the eye and chirped softly, weakly. He shook his head roughly, barking back in surprise. No. She was the leader. She had the wisdom and the courage and she'd been through so much. He was not ready. He couldn't lead her pack in her place. How could he possibly be even half the leader she was?
She chirped again, nudging him roughly with her muzzle, insistent. He stood and began pacing, hissing back at her harshly. She pushed herself to her feet and barked back irritably. Kuru again hissed, and this time she leaped at him. Despite all her injuries, she was surprisingly strong even now. He fell to the ground and she stood over him, her claws lightly pressing into his belly. Again she hissed, challenging him, wanting him to fight back and take leadership.
He squirmed pathetically beneath her claws and he saw her eyes flash in anger. She nipped at him, drawing blood. He hissed in surprise and shoved her off of him, rolling to his feet in a flash. She crouched, ready for his attack, but he didn't want to harm her further. When he didn't leap at her, she again rolled him onto his back. He shoved her off again. She rolled him a third time.
Fight! She seemed to scream at him. Finally instead of just pushing her off, he countered, knocking her onto her back and holding her down with his sharp claws, his teeth at her throat.
She made a crooning sound, accepting defeat. He released her and she got to her feet slowly, clearly aching from the exertion. He helped her up, aware that he had just been forced to take leadership of the pack, knowing that this had been more her decision than his. With this knowledge, he began barking loudly, announcing the change to all raptors present. Their voices rose with his into the evening sky, a pack united.

Describe their position within the pack:
At the current time in my canon, Kuru is Zitala's second. As he was raised by her alongside his sisters, he proved himself to be a strong and resilient raptor from a young age. His job as second is to work directly with Zita in making decisions for the pack. He also leads the hunting party when the leader is too injured or needs additional rest. Often he must step up as interim leader when Zita is away or if the pack is in need of additional support. Kuru may choose a mate and raise children, but if he does so, he must still be able to balance his primary responsibilities or risk losing his position as second. In battle, he is expected to help lead the pack to victory no matter the cost. He is also expected, should the need arise, to sacrifice himself to save the life of the pack leader.

Aether is a fierce predator through and through. He relied on self-preservation for so long that it was difficult for him to begin trusting his pack leader. However, with Seraphina, his true personality began to blossom. From Seraphina's perspective, he has many admirable qualities to him. For one, once trust is instilled in him, he becomes protective and loyal to that individual. He ensures no harm ever comes their way, and he is always on alert for any possible signs of danger. When there is no danger to be found, however, he almost becomes... amusing. He enjoys finding ways to brighten the mood and make someone's day better. He likes spending time with those he trusts, letting down his walls that have never been breached. On his own, he prefers to keep to himself. He enjoys the quiet the morning brings, the soft whoosh of the waves hitting the beach, and the sound of the wind whispering through brittle leaves. He is still working on learning teamwork and other essential qualities needed to be in a raptor pack, but Seraphina sees much potential in his future years.

Aether never had an easy life. From the moment he emerged from his egg, it seemed like the world was against him. He never had someone he could fully rely on, so he grew cold, distant, and distrustful of anyone and anything. He would tell you it was for his own safety, but in reality, it was simpler than getting close to anyone. He went many nights with an empty belly for these reasons. He could go a full day with only seeing one prey animal, and if he missed his opportunity, then he could only hope tomorrow's hunt went better. He grew to be an excellent hunter because he learned what it was like to be hungry. Aether learned to take his time when prey was spotted, slowly, but surely, making his approach as effective as possible. He has only had a few scuffles with bachelor raptors encroaching on his territory. His skills in hunting easily translated over to battle. Thus, when a raptor invaded his lands, it would lead to a sneak attack where he would send them screeching back over the border. Eventually, the prey in his area started to run scarce. He was fairly young, and still growing, which meant he needed more calories to sustain himself each day. Aether decided to abandon his territory and set out for new lands rich in prey to satisfy these needs. This, unfortunately, is how he ended up in such a muddy situation. There were a handful of other raptors in the pit with him, but they were all fairly confused and displeased with their current predicament. This lead to no fights of any sort thankfully, but as he went to pull himself out of the pit he ran face first into a raptor who had merely been watching the scene with a smirk on her features. Seraphina stepped backwards to create some space between Aether and her. The younger male had run straight into her, leaving a smudge of mud on her snout to her disdain. She swiftly shook her head to dislodge the blob on her nose, but there was still a streak that was quickly drying from the heat of the sun. She had been watching the amusing scene play out before her as more and more raptors found themselves trapped in the mud below. How does one even end up in a situation like this? Were they not paying attention to where they were going? As her thoughts continued on, she was snapped back to reality by Aether shoving past her. The female raptor was taken aback by his lack of respect, eyes narrowing dangerously in his direction. "And just where do you think you're going?" she stated nonchalantly, making Aether freeze in place with the depths of curiosity and warning in her tone. "You caused this mess. You're going to help clean it up." Seraphina continued, bounding past Aether as she did so. Aether was taken aback by this. All he wanted to do was leave. He wanted to get out of there before any fights broke out, but he unwittingly caused a commotion with this random. She was a fully grown raptor. He would easily be overpowered by her if she decided to switch on her aggression, so he felt he had no choice but to agree. "A-alright." Aether murmured, lowering his head as he begrudgingly followed her away from the mud pit. Seraphina led him back into her territory to a clear spring-fed pond, gesturing for him to enter the clear blue waters. She herself stuck her nose in the water, allowing the gentle rocks of the beach to clear the remaining mud from her scales. From this point on, a conversation was struck that began a beautiful partnership. Aether found a new home, a new leader, and a new purpose in life.

Aether was given the position of trainee. Typically, a raptor would be moving up to hunter-gatherer status by the 2-3 year mark. However, Seraphina wanted to personally take him under her wing to ensure he knows all the proper techniques. He may have taken care of himself up to this point, but her rationale is that he still has much to learn. One can fall into bad habits when they find something that works, when in reality, there might be easier ways to accomplish a task. Also, she needs to teach him how to hunt in a pack, which will be a joint learning experience for the two of them. Seraphina had been in a pack when she was younger, but at a certain age, the younglings had to leave to gain their own individual experience. Thus, it has been a few years since she personally hunted in a pack. She is confident that it will not take her and Aether long to perfect it.

Aether sees Seraphina as a mentor and a friend. Currently, they are the only two in the pack, so their bond has gotten closer each day. He feels he can rely on her to take care of him, and likewise, he hopes he can help her succeed as well. Her territory is brimming with resources, so he can only feel blessed to have ran into her that day at the mud pit. It had been a rocky start to their friendship since he was stubborn and reluctant to speak to her. Seraphina, however, loves to talk, even if he is just quietly listening. She slowly broke down his walls just by making him feel comfortable and safe around her. In the beginning, all he wanted to do was leave after he had cleaned up in the pond. Seraphina had been consistently talking to him (or to herself, he was not sure at that point), so he had awkwardly stood there not knowing what to do. "Am I free to leave now?" he cut her off mid-sentence, beginning to get frustrated with the charade. "Oh, by all means..." she stated with a knowing smirk, nodding her head in approval for him to depart. When Aether started to trudge off though, the silence started to settle in. The worry of not knowing where he was going to find food, shelter, and the like began to fill his brain again, which had previously been replaced by the sound of Seraphina's voice. In some way or another, he ended up turning around. She welcomed him back with no words, just a simple smirk of her approval. From there, they have slowly started to learn more about the other.
