prompt: this stuffed cat once was an animal. king edgar, the most fearsome lion the grasslands had ever seen. his subjects quaked at the sound of his pawsteps on the dry ground, his enemies cowered at the sound of his distant roar.

with power, land and enough food to feed a much larger prided than the one he ruled, the only thing king edgar lacked were… people skills. king edgar spoke brashly, often offending those around him. he lacked manners, pushing and shoving and burping, a truly disrespectful display for a king such as himself.

one day, king edgar disrespected the wrong lion. an elderly lioness, fur white with age. she was a lioness of few words, though her expression spoke volumes as she was shoved by king edgar at a meeting of the prides. she cleared her throat, expecting an apology but all she was met with was an eye roll. the lioness mumbled something incoherent under her breath before walking away.

the following days, king edgar came down with a cold. he stayed in his den, curled beneath layers of soft bedding. for once, the pride seemed to be buzzing with happiness now that their king wasn’t there to judge their every move. it was another week before someone decided to check in on king edgar and a wail of surprise caused the lions to rush into his den. laying on a bed of feathers was a purple plush cat with button eyes.
