A moon had passes since Silverkit -- no, Silverpaw -- had become an apprentice. Goldenkit had hardly seen her since. She was always out with Honeysuckle, or sleeping in the apprentices cave, or practicing battle moves or... not having time for Goldenkit.

Fae sighed. Myrtleshade, standing beside faer, gave a gentle nudge.

"It's your apprentice ceremony, what are you so down for, you silly kit?" His motherly smile briefly soothed Goldenkit.

But fae didn't want to be an apprentice. Fae wanted faer housefolk. This was Silverpaws idea, and Goldenkit only went along with it because they were her best friend. She didn't think it would get this far. It was supposed to be just for a short while, right?

But Silverpaw was taking this warrior stuff so seriously. Goldenkit could see on their face. This was their life now. And where did Goldenkit fit? Fae couldn't go back, alone, to their housefolk. What would their housefolk think?

"Goldenkit, please come forward." Wolfstar's rumbling meow broke through Goldenkit's angsting. Fae's breath hitched in faer throat. No, no, no. Please no. I don't want this!

On shaky feet, the kitten stepped forward. Do it for Silverpaw. They'll be sleeping beside each other again, after all.

"We've all witness how well Silverpaw's training has come, and we expect you will impress us just as well. Us MesaClan cats know that kittypet backgrounds have no influence on how great a warrior can become." Wolfstar nodded to Poplarclaw. He was chewing on a claw, looking disinterested. Goldenkit shuddered. He was scary.

"Poplarclaw, do you agree to take Goldenkit under your mentorship as you train faer to become the best warrior fae can be?"

The warrior glanced briefly at Goldenkit. He sighed.

"Uh, yeah. I suppose."

"And Goldenkit, do you agree to be Poplarclaw's apprentice, and listen to his every word, and learn all that you can learn?"

A silence fell over the camp as Goldenkit hesitated for a moment. And then another moment. It felt like eternity before fae's tiny voice squeaked something that sounded along the lines of "yes".

"Then as the Sun as our witness, I name you Goldenpaw."

The warriors cheered, just as they had done for Silverpaw, a moon ago. Silverpaw herself came dashing out of the crowd, jumping on top of Goldenpaw and giving fae an encouraging lick on the cheek.

"You did it! We're apprentices! Goldenpaw!! I'm so happy." Seeing the pure glee on Silverpaw's face, Goldenpaw purred. Maybe this would be alright after all.
