Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness.With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Goldenpaw -- no, Goldeneagle -- felt numb.

It was faer naming ceremony. Fae was a warrior now.

Not that it mattered anymore. Silverbird wasn't here to see, what was the point? Silverbird was the one who got them into this mess. And now they were gone.

And Goldeneagle was alone.

Cats cheered around faer, but it sounded distant, in another lifetime. Goldeneagle stared without seeing.

It had been moons.

Wolfstar gave the new warrior a gentle nudge. Fae stumbled. Wolfstar looked concerned, extending her tail to steady Goldeneagle. Fae looked at her tearily, before hastily speeding out of the camp. Fae couldn't take the noise or the eyes or the attention. Fae ran and ran, faer paws taking them across the cooling desert sands.

Mind blurry, she had no way of telling how long she had ran for, but she had ended up on the edges of Twolegplace. She hadn't been here since Silverbird had led them to MesaClan, all those moons ago.

Goldeneagle's heart felt a pull towards their old nest, but faer paws itched to turn around. To walk back to MesaClan.

What was the point of returning to their nest? Their smells would no longer linger, their old housemates would have moved on, remnants of the pair's habitancy were probably long gone.

Faer whiskers tickled, as if they had brushed up against something. A warm sensation trickled down Goldeneagle's spine. Fae sighed. Spinning around, fae began to trot back the way fae had come.

It would be dishonoring Silverbird to run from the clan they had become so proud of. Running away would break their heart. Goldeneagle watched as the sun set, sending an array of colours across the sky. A single star twinkled on the horizon, brighter than usual. It was the same sparkle that had shone in Silverbird's eyes that night they had joined MesaClan.

Goldeneagle broke into a sprint, screaming from the bottom of her chest, interrupted only by heaving sobs. Her paws burnt as she tore across jagged rocks, running towards the star. It glittered innocently as other stars joined the purpled sky, as if there was no significance to it at all.

Goldeneagle, throat stinging, skidded to a stop above the clan's camp. Standing in silence for a moment, fae took a deep breath and nodded, padding calming into the camp.

I'll make you proud, Silverbird. Keep watching me. I'll make sure to live the life you wanted for yourself, for me, for us. I promise.
