Origins

Eons ago, in the land's first forming, the Paragons of the Sun and Moon battled for supremacy of the land. The battle for Lilera was fierce, for both envisioned this new land differently for the Storkattens that would first land there. The Sun Paragon wanted a bright land of warmth and fire, a place where darkness and chill had no place and the might of solar energy could be felt by all. The Moon Paragon desired a dark and cooling place in which light would be snuffed out and the beauty of the night could be loved by all. To this day, no one knows why they refused compromise. Sharing was clearly the answer. Many speculate that it was simply to spite one another. Others simply thought their prides were too much to release and they had no true reason to fight. And yet they continued their battle. Years of grueling battles that shaped mountains and levelled plains from their ferocity.

But they were not foolish. The Paragons knew well that they could not continue this fight forever. At the least, not daily. Lest they wanted their new home of the Storkattens to be destroyed before it began. Thus, one final deciding fight was their agreed solutions. In the Middle of the Seasons, where both Heat and Chill demanded importance, they stood before one another, intent to become the final victor of this all. For three days, they raged war upon one another, a display of danger yet beauty as their magics showered the domain in a beautiful light show. On the third day, a final wave of strength clashed between the two Paragons. Back and forth as the upper hand was switched. Then, in a sudden bright flash, darkness fell, and quiet descended on the realm.

The victor... Remained undecided.

For, in the midst of a large crater, sat the cackling form of The Trickster as they sat upon a massed ball of Solar and Lunar Magic. The Trickster tossed the magic into the sky with ease and laughed out as they declared themselves the victor before disappearing before the wrath of the two Paragons could befall them. Sun and Moon, both dissatisfied with this result, but out of energy for such battle decided to retreat until next year's Middle of Seasons, in which they will decide the true victor. And such battles continued on that day for years to follow.

It is believed that Balance was only achieved thanks to the Paragon of Balance bringing about the Nebula. However, their battles are believed to be continued in the Celestial realm.

The Mid-Season Eclipse Festival is a three day long event held in the Delta Estate during the Eclipse that happens only once an year in Lilera. This event is held as a celebration of magic and togetherness, giving rise to friendly competition and healthy growth. Young Storkies are encouraged to enter in the various competitions to show off their magic and abilities that they've learned throughout their moons with their Masters. While there are many competitions that are held and often shows of strength occur, the festival is mostly performative. Showing off is the name of the game and, regardless of winning or losing, will always net bonus points in the hearts of the members of the colony.



Day One: The Display of Masters
The Festival begins with a mass magic display put on by the Masters of the Estate. Masters of the Estate are the teachers who have made it their proud mission to teach the Storkattens of the Estate how to use and control their magic and make them capable members of not just the colony, but the world. Some more willing than others. After the display, the Leader of the Estate makes a speech of the Festivals meaning to inspire and encourage everyone to their best. With that, the festivities begin.

The first day is more relaxing than most, as each magic Master, or their students, host small displays of their own, possibly give others a touch of another magic if they ever desire to learn. It is meant to be an day in which everyone comes together and enjoys the peace of the balanced world they were given.

When night falls, everyone gathers to participate in the Great Hunt. This hunt is lead by last years Battle and Showcase winners, who will lead the charge in hunting the rare Lusola, a mythical prey created from the residual Solar and Lunar Energy that fell from the battle. These creatures only come during the nights of this festical and are said to be the Paragon's way of gifting the Storkattens who follow them. Lusoli are said to be the most delicious of prey and are made all the more delicious by the fun and comradery that is had while catching them. When the Moon finally reaches it's highest point, these creatures fade into the Nebula until the next night and everyone returns with their prey to enjoy a large feast together.

Trivia: Many believe that if you share a Lusola with a loved one, it will give your relationship a blessing from the Paragons. Though it seems to just be rumored?

Day Two: Battle of Sol
On the Second day is when competitions begin and the eyes of the Masters watch closely. Tournaments are held in which Storkies battle one another to show of their power and skill. Multiple battles are held at once, each victor moving on to the next fight once their bracket has finished until a final match is had. The winner of the final match is crowned the Sol's Might, becoming one of the leaders of next Festival's hunt.

Another competition held after these battles in the Kat Trace game. A large scale Capture the Flag like game in which participating Storkies are split into two teams, Sun and Moon, and compete to take the flag of the other team. This game, while having winners, is meant to be friendly and holds no reward more than bragging rights.

After the festivities, the colony feasts once more on Lusoli, hunted mostly by non-participating Storkies. This most often consists of the Blood Storkies as they like to show off too.

Trivia: While it's great to show your skills in the Battle of Sol, try and keep some tricks under your sleeve! They may just be the edge you need to truly shine in the Showcase ; )

Day Three: Lun's Showcase
The showcase is where Storkatten's of the estate truly want to shine. In this event, Storkies preform their best talents with their magics. Many participate on behest of their Masters, but the showcase is open to anyone and everyone who wishes to simple share with the colony what they are capable of. Some do so just for fun of performing, others are there to win. After the every participating Storkie has finished their routine, the Masters discuss and the results are announced and a winner is chosen by their vote. That winner is crowned the Majesty of Lun.

After a moment of rest and recuperation, everyone gather's under the Celestial Pedestal where Sirius, the colony's leader stands and waits. While not required, many like to sit on pointedly on one side of the pedestal, left or right, to signify which Eclipse this year will be, Solar or Lunar. Then all watch as, in a grand display of magi, Sirius guides the two Celestial Bodies together, moving them across the Nebula until the Eclipse is made.

During the brief minutes of the Eclipse, Storkies are rejuvenated, feeling the blessing of the Paragon washing over them. This phenomenon is known to boost Storkies of the Estate's magical abilities slightly for this single night only. For during the night, the Celestine Lusola appears, a large mythical beast that once again brings the Storkies together in a final clash against the monster, invoking the true spirit of the battle between the paragons and giving the Storkattens a chance to go all out on this beast. Once felled, it can feed the entire colony on it's own. If the Paragon likes the battle, the land is blessed throughout the year, so long as the Paragon is satisfied.

Trivia: No one knows how the big Beast that is the Celestine Lusola can appear out of nowhere, but Sirius has kept that particular fact a secret from even his closest friends. Curious.

More Trivia: While it would seem the Paragons themselves have stopped fighting one another, no one knows when the fighting officially stopped. What they do know, is that the Paragons clearly take pride in being the winning Eclipse of the year. They probably rub it in each other's face.

The colony had been driven further from civilisation every day. Some forging forth due to hope, that someplace safe yet less constrained than the city could be out there. They wanted something new and only saw adventure. They were naive. Others, many more felt cut off from the old city they called home. Forward was the only way forward, running from a glass cage, into a terrifying world of danger. Others only stayed because they knew they could not make it back alone.

But even among the chaos and lack of routine that came from never knowing where danger could come from there was some traditions.

Every month, as the moon changed colour they would strain their ears for the sounds of others. They listened out for the sounds of other strokes searching for them. And yet rather than fearing it, they hoped for it. Every month, others like them were guided, one air storkie taking to the air to search for the wandering group while a blood storkie used their senses, searching for the group. Bringing new recruits. New blood, and sometimes old friends who had made the greatest choice. Breaking away from the known.

It would be nice to imagine that they were met with joyful paws and tears.

But that was not the routine.

Too many things had gone wrong before. Too many storkies had gotten hurt with false trust.

So when the colony comes face to face with the newcomers the newcomers quickly find themselves trapped in vines, twisting up from the dirt. Faced with the strong magic of the colonies self proclaimed leader. Even the scouts with be treated to this.

The healers swoop in first. Careful under the eyes of much of the colony. Soothing wounds that may have been accumulated on the journey. Followed by tests of the scouts, ensuring they haven't been replaced with doublegangers, nor threatened to bring the others with them. They are released and greeted by family. Then comes time for the newcomers' interrogation. It is relatively light, with posturering from a couple fire storkies, sometimes the harsh glare of Abnus, the roughened and battle hardened storkie.

Then finally, the newcomers are assigned mentors, who act as a mixture of guards, and the ones who vouch for the storkies to stay or go. They are a select few, ones who are trusted to be strong enough and experienced enough. Often they have the same born magic as their mentees, ready to teach them, or curb any accidents.

But the tradition works. Mostly. It is a routine built from past mistakes, and past pains. Even though it slows down the onset of celebration and joy at seeing new and old friends. They dont often have much spare food, but the colony makes extra effort when the recruits are due, collecting and hunting just a little more, a little longer, and sometimes, when in an especially good area they even decorate a little. Just to make the giving up of everything they have even known seem a little brighter.

Lost Haven is very much made up of storkatten from every corner of the world, bringing with them their own believes, practices, cultures... but there are a few things they have begun to forge together to try and create kinship. One of these is their Welcoming Day, which actually the colony treats like a storkatten's birthday. It is considered the most important day of their new life, the day they were officially reborn into a new beginning and a new family.

So what sort of traditions do such a day entail? The first part entails decorating their colony as extensively as possible. Each and every member is tapped for their magic and skills, be it in growing, shaping, or showing off. It is a way to show the new member that they are surrounded by gifts, that they are a gift, and no matter what they can do it will be welcomed into their colony! Those with the gift of water work with those gifted with ice, creating massive sculptures, walkways, fountains, and even igloos for cooling down! Those who can move earth and plants create flowering displays of immense vegetation, bountiful treats of catnip, and soft grass to roll around in. Fire grants areas of warmth, like sunny patches to lay in! Metal works with everyone to create sculptures, windmills, as well as safe haven, as poison creates dazzling, colorful displays with their gift of toxic but gorgeous to behold ingredients.

Arcane, astral, and rune meanwhile work upon the more ritual aspects of things, the official things such as spells woven and cast as well as futures told and spun. Astral assures the stars are right just for the day, Rune enures that their future is at its brightest, while arcane ensures that nothing will hinder the big moment!

Finally, with everything in place, the new clan member is officially brought in, even if they have been a member for quite some time. They touch noses with each member, locking their destinies together if even for a brief moment in time. At this point, if the others wish to say something, either words of encouragement or advice, they can. To each existing member, what they want to do here is different. Some will give gifts even, while others simply will give their hopes and dreams. The final member they approach is the leader, Sebastian. No matter what their magic is, he will open his heart to theirs and let some of his fire mingle with theirs before smiling.

A huge cheer is sent out, and a feast begins then. Everyone is encouraged to eat until they pass out asleep, and by the end of it all usually their is simply a massive mountain of storkies fallen asleep on top of each other. At the center of it all is usually the newcomer, who almost always tends to be purring loud enough to make the entire pile rumble! This is a home, a family, a community. All are linked together, be it through spirit, magic, or blood. And they will never be alone again, never have to feel like they are not good enough.

To Athena, the phrase 'Consent, Communication, and Actions are Key to Relationships' stood as a baseline for her future significant other. Watching her parents dote on each other with small acts of love - arms stretched wide for a hug when faced with a frown, an offer to do a chore they knew the other didn't enjoy, a simple conversation about what had made them upset, and setting aside 2 hours on Tuesdays for family discussion to see where everyone was at - taught Athena what was important when it came to keeping a healthy relationship with someone you love. It was Athena's first relationship, though, that really helped her understand just how important these morals were.

Being the oldest in a family of 4 children, Athena grew up spending after-school hours curled up on the couch with her siblings. Comfort was as easy as breathing when they were together - though this also had its faults. Spending long periods of time apart became increasingly harder to handle the more time they spent together - holidays and extended breaks were no exception. For Athena, that first summer break was the worst; The lack of physical affection created an uneasy feeling in Athena's chest. It wasn't that she thought her girlfriend didn't love her, it was being unable to communicate through actions what she couldn't through words that really tore at her.

It took a bit of time - and help from her younger sister - for Athena to find a way past this speedbump; Athena would create scrapbooks for Nym when they were apart, spending time when they met up again to sit and leaf through the collection as they curled up together once more. These scrapbooks were filled with pages of polaroid pictures Athena would take, hand-crafted notes and stories to go along with each one, gifted to Nym in a handbound booklet upon first meet. In return, Nym - being a little less hands-on creative - would buy little trinkets that reminded her of Athena, creating a little box of items Athena could use to think of Nym.
