Range Trotter #2230 based on this drawing by HowlingHooves
by paradise, @ Sun Jun 26, 2022 1:56 pm [Reply]

Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness. With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Tell me how this Trotter feels about their skull marking! Do they like it, hate it, etc.

Show Name: Lady in the Shroud
    Barn Name: Widow
    Gender: Mare
    Height: 14.2 hh
Halter Color: Widow spider colors, please!
Prompt: Widow is more indifferent, truth be told; her fellow older herd mates aren’t bothered and therefore she isn’t bothered either. But her facial feature certainly frightens off those endlessly irritating young ones, which is something she does appreciate! Not at all the motherly type, this mare definitely doesn’t like foals or yearlings and so uses her markings to scare them off and away from here, all the while she can graze in peace with the old fogies she enjoys being with.

Barn Name: Echo
Gender: Mare
Height: 13.2hh

Prompt: Echo has mixed feelings about her skull. It tends to scare off others, but that's no something her introverted self minds all too much. She does like that she doesn't have to bother dressing up for halloween!

Username: Owl_Roast
Show Name: Don't Fear The Reaper
Barn Name: Keres
Gender: Mare
Height: 14hh
Halter Color: Eye Color
Prompt: As a filly, Keres was shameful of her marking as the other foals would spook and hide whenever she approached them. But this did not diminish her spirit, and as she grew older she would hide behind trees on foggy mornings to spook her herdmates and get a good laugh. Her outgoing personality shone through her frightening appearance, and she began to appreciate the benefits of her markings. Smaller predators looking to snatch foals would turn tail and run at the sight of her, and bachelor stallions sneaking into the herd thought she was an omen of death and skittered away. Now the mare holds herself proud within her herd, growing close to the elder, easily irritated stallions that didn't fear her and memorizing their stories by heart.

The Mormont Equine Society is a recently founded group dedicated to the conservation and promotion of two closely related modern British breeds; the Mormont Pony and the Mormont Sport Horse. These two breeds find their origins in a number of European stock, with the intention to create versatile horses capable of outclassing their predecessors.

The Mormont Equine Society (MES) oversaw the creation of the Mormont Pony breed in the early 20th century and originally consisted of only a few hobbyist breeders. By the 1950's the MES became nationally recognized and numbers had grown exponentially as the developing two breeds garnered interest. The MES now holds a number of shows annually and keeps a record of all registered horses. More recently, they have also been given the responsibility of controlling feral Mormont populations through rehoming programs.

information!! wrote:Andaluz Sport Horses are a cross between the Andalusian and the Spanish Sport Horse. These horses have been bred
to combine their strength and agility to create the perfect showing champions. Andaluz's are extremely intelligent and elegant
horses, but are also known to have a fiery spirit. Their name is quite literally a combination of the two species, with andaluz
meaning "andalusian" in Spanish, and sport horse coming from their Spanish heritage.

These horses excel in endurance competitions such as cross country and show jumping, but are also capable of dressage
and harness pulling. Andaluz's also enjoy leisure riding as a way to bond between horse and rider. These sport horses can be
ridden either Western or English, but for showing purposes, will always be shown in English tack and attire.

Their heights can range anywhere from 14-16hh, with the average falling between 15-15.3hh. The most common
coat colors are the basic solids, but Andaluz's can have any coat color that has been discovered with the exception of mutations.

Show Name: ARR Aurora España
Barn Name: Aure (pron. "Or-ey")
Gender: Mare
Halter Color: Something Aurora based!
Prompt: "Where the Lights touch the Earth...."

Aure was born in Galicia, Spain, October 2003. An older mare now, she still remembers those first few months of life so vividly. She'd been only a few weeks old, and was enjoying the last few nights of pasture freedom before the winter would see her and her mother housed inside the stables at night. It was a normal night it seemed: the crickets chirped, the skies clear, and breeze chilled, but somehow, there was static in the air. It made her coat stand on end, and even her mother continually looked to the sky and their surroundings. Aure had just been about to settle in to the lush grasses to sleep when a strange color caught her attention - it was light, but it shouldn't have been daybreak yet? Turning her eyes skyward, the most amazing colored lights filled the inky blackness, dancing and weaving through the stars. Even their owners has stepped out of their home to see the spectacle, a once in a lifetime show. It filled Aure with such excitement that she danced too - for hours upon hours until her tiny body finally had no energy left, and she slept.

Ever since that experience as a foal, her favorite place has always been the sky. Even though she doesn't know what causes auroras or why they happen, she can always be found staring up at the sky before she falls asleep. After she left her natal stable in 2008, she unfortunately was sold to a competition stable in Florida, then continued to move west across the United States, from stable to stable. It wasn't until she was sold to Amethyst Ridge, a competition stable located in Northern Colorado, that she saw her beloved aurora again. And even after all those years without them, that night she danced just like when she was a foal.

She has been to numerous locations, each holding a place in her heart, but her favorite place would have to be this hidden lagoon she found in Mexico. It was a serene little place, the rocks outcropping over the top of the lagoon, shielding it from the harsh rays of the sun. The water was brilliantly blue and clear as day, allowing Vagabond to see her hooves when she waded into the water. It was just the right temperature, not too hot or too cold, just perfect. Although her mind is set on traveling, she thought she could have stayed in that little lagoon by herself forever. It was the most peace she had ever felt in her entire life.

Percherons are a breed of draft horse that originated in the Huisne river valley in western France, most commonly seen in a black or grey color. They are well muscled, and known for their intelligence and willingness to work, as well as being generally peaceful creatures that are lovable and easy to train. They're seen between 15 and 19 hands high, and 1,900 to 2,600 pounds. Percherons were originally bred for use as war horses, but over time, they began to be used for pulling stagecoaches and later for agriculture and hauling heavy goods. They have been crossed with several light horse breeds, such as Arabians, to produce horses for range work and competition, but are still used for forestry work and pulling carriages.

Sleepy Hollow Percherons originates from the northern midwest United States, home to many varieties of horse from many different backgrounds of work; working as police mounts in Australia to forestry and farm work in Great Britain, parades, sleigh rides and hayrides around the world, and competing in various classes such as dressage and classic cart. Sleepy Hollow Percherons can very commonly seen in equine therapy and beginner riding lessons as well due to their gentle, relaxed behavior.
