Levoca raised his head, ears flicking, annoyed at the small insects pestering both him and the livestock. The sun was warm, casting soft rays across his brindled coat. He had situated himself on a nice patch of grass, close enough to the cattle, yet far enough away he wouldn't be seen. The wooden fence, equipped with hot wire, lay menacingly in his way. He stood up, after a few moments of contemplation. You see, he took his job very seriously. His job of herding, watching over, securing- protecting the herd was something he was born to do. He loved it too, and often would herd the farm animals just for the fun of it. The occasional snap at the heels was something that was necessary, but he never aimed to injure any animal (unless you were a threatening predator). Zion loves cows and enjoys relaxing with them, he views them as friends and loves to bask in the sun!

As a pup he grew up on the farm as a stray, abandoned in the cow pen where he grew up beside them, the farmer didn't mind and fed him. He used to sit on the backs and rode across the whole field taking naps on his friends back. His favourite was Maryln, his best friend and sister, he would always sit with her, he was almost the same age as her and would play with her when she was a calf. He grew close to her, so close that he wouldn't let anybody near her, he loved her and would stick by her side constantly, and she him, they both leaned on eachother and strayed from the herd, a half cow dog and a half dog cow. The farmer had tried training him into herding, to which he wouldn't take, he would go and sit with maryln, ignoring his every command. He loves the cows, he was embraced as if he was one because it was all he had known and he was happy with that, he stayed with the farm happily, sticking with his sister who embraced him fully.

This breed of mini drafts, a mix that was started between Haflingers and Icelandic Horses, was established in the early 1900s to assist in the development of roadways and hiking trails within Banff National Park up in Canada. Their broad chests and fluffy winter coat make living up in the cold Rockies bearable, and their densely muscled bodies make all the hard work they typically do possible for such a small breed of draft horse. Their size range varies, coming in around 13hh-15hh, with the tallest horses being only 15.0hh.

They tend to make a much better working horse rather than show horse and can often be used for carriage pulling and pulling farm equipment. They can still be ridden though despite being great working horses, and have retained the same unique gaits that Icelandic Horses are known for, the 'tölt' and 'skeið' gaits. They are typically hard working, easy going, and spirited horses, making for a great working or riding companion.

In recent years, the breed has come back into the spotlight after it had been more or less abandoned within the park and surrounding areas. Locals took it upon themselves to set up an event during the warmer months of the year to catch the wild horses, know as the "Summer Mini Round-Up". During the round-up, people from across the world can come and watch the horses parade through the main thoroughfare, making sure to keep an eye out on any horses they'd like to adopt after they've all been herded into the auction fields.

Sooo uhh… I guess I own a little guy now?? I don’t really know much about Chicoons but I thought he was rly cute and thought I’d enter anyway since it was a free raffle, I didn’t expect to actually win him! Not sure what I’ll do with him - if anything, esp since I can’t draw on oekaki because my pen pressure just decides it doesn’t exist - now that he’s mine, but for now he’s just… my little creature…

Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness.With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.
