personality;; dante is the kind of child who's always really really excited about his hobbies and will show it off to anyone, but like most children he will feel unhappy whenever others don't show any positive feelings towards what he loves best, which is unfortunately quite bland to their eyes. after all, who on earth finds growing plants in pipes fun? perhaps dante's the only one. it's tough being the kid people think enjoys watching paint dry. this has in many ways affected how dante acts and thinks, leaving him to become more closed off and brooding, but that doesn't mean he won't keep inserting comments on his garden into conversations. it does make him look selfish in a way, but he claims he isn't making it all about himself. instead, he simply feels like he can't seem to like others' hobbies and will try to get them to enjoy his instead.

favorite food;; purple cabbages !! they're also called red cabbages, which is something dante doesn't really understand. to his eyes, they're a full purple after all. he loves making his own little recipes with them, growing them in his garden until they're ripe enough. he's made several dish ideas for them, but he unfortunately can't cook, so he needs someone else to carry out his ideas, and the fact that he's afraid of fire doesn't really help at all. sometimes his adoptive father heru helps him, although this hasn't really helped him get over his fears. he will watch while heru cooks, but he won't try to do it himself just yet. maybe when he's a little older?

other;; dante lives with his adoptive father, heru. before that, dante lived in an orphanage. back when he was still little, dante would watch plants, have fun tossing seeds around, and other plant related things. when he ate watermelons he wouldn't spit out the seeds, he'd keep them close until he found a place to plant them. although his first few attempts to grow plants never really worked, he wouldn't stop trying! he would persist to make his dream come true. he would ask the workers at the orphanage about how to grow a plant, and he was provided with a sunflower seed, a flower pot and a small bucket. back then, he didn't even know what a watering can was. while he was a bit impatient at first, he began to learn that patience was the key to growing a plant. he began to draw little sketches on paper of his plant, and although his drawings were never really progressive [ drawing an empty pot for four days straight for instance ], dante kept doing it till his first successful sunflower began to grow. he began to get used to the flower more frequently, since he put it outside and it would always face the sun. he put a small stool near the flower, where he would sit and draw while the other orphaned vaikis would either watch him or pay no attention. he even named the flower 'sunni,' and began to talk about it all the time.

when heru adopted dante, he noticed the flower and took it home. having a paleontologist for a father was really cool! and there were also bonus points for hugs since heru was really, really fluffy. the thing about heru was that he was a really loving father and would never stop listening when his adoptive son had something to say. the older vaiki would then talk about his job, and explain about fossils, and that became one of dante's side hobbies. while he wanted to be a botanist, becoming a paleontologist like his father wouldn't be too bad either.

they took the sunflower home with them and dante began to get used to his new space. heru would buy him new seeds and dante would be given the freedom to nurse them, and for all that time both of them enjoyed life as it was. dante couldn't have it any better than that. of course, he began to learn more about plants, and with books and heru teaching him to read more [ since he only knew the basics when he was in the orhpanage ], dante soon discovered hydroponics. it took him about ten attempts to spell the word right, and even now he still makes mistakes. anyway, hydroponics involved growing plants via pipes and using a water pump to make sure the roots were hydrated. it was a creative way to grow plants, especially vegetables, and dante was especially excited to try it out.

when they first started experimenting with hydroponics they did run into some problems. heru had to search for days for the right type of pipes they needed, and then he had to find a way to punch holes into them. in the end, that was solved by burning an empty can of beans and then pressing it against the pipes when it was hot. even after that, heru and dante had to work on the pump system, decide how much water they needed, and then monitor the water flow until they realized the pump wouldn't work after five minutes. after so much trial and error, they finally succeeded, and so dante could begin planting his cabbages. first, he had to grow them with sponges, but once they were big enough he could use the pipe system until he could finally eat them.

pet[s];; well, heru owns two pets, sati and jahi. sati is a fennec fox while jahi is a burrowing owl. although dante does love these two dearly, he doesn't see them as his own pets. heru noticed this and ended up getting dante a cat. she had patchy white and ginger fur, with the ginger patches having darker stripes. dante accepted her immediately and ended up naming her nugget. it was short for gold nugget, mind you, so don't laugh it off... or that'd what dante would say, anyway. he would spend days playing with nugget, and once he even forgot about his plants because of it. heru had to remind him to take care of them for a few minutes before playing 'chase-my-tail' again for the fiftieth round.
