Story: Patriot is a stallion of many tales as his mind is a road map of adventures throughout his relatively short life. He, though, was a well known war horse, who's story has been told time and time again. Revolution was among his master's state, and he did not expect that he would come out alive. Long story short, the government had corrupted and the leader had turned against its people. Patriot, being the brave stallion that he is, at once began to strengthen his mind. What he would see then would be something he would never forget.

Months of training had passed in a heartbeat and upon the assassination of the governor, the people found it as a sign to revolt. The government had gone too far this time, and at once the barricade had risen. Him, being the lead horse of the Calvary, led the first charge towards the booming cannons. He would dodge them, left and right, until he felt the thing that all calvary horses never wanted to feel. His rider had fallen, as he could feel him being dragged behind with his left foot stuck in the stirrup. He had to keep running, for the bullets grazing his side seemed to be getting closer and closer.

Patriot swiftly jumped the enemy lines and pushed through the men until he was galloping up the cobblestone streets. By this time, he had thrown a horseshoe and his sides stung with the wounds from the bullets, and he turned at the top of the hill outside of town. With a shaking crash, the barricade fell, and everyone had died. There was nowhere for him to turn now. If he went back, then he could be captured, retrained, and entered into the government's army, which was against his being. So, he now decided that it would be best to leave and start a new life somewhere far from there.

Night drew in closer and he limped on until he found an old abandoned barn in the middle of the woods. It would provide for good shelter for the night, and it seemed like a good place to stay possibly till his wounds healed. He laid down on the old hay, nipping at his girth until his saddle slid off of his back. His sides breathed heavily up and down. The pain and blood on him seemed to cool as he fell asleep. When he awoke, he found himself stitched up and covered in a warm blanket. There was a fresh pile of hay next to his head and he lifted up to see who had found him.

In the corner, a young girl with blonde hair stood in the shadows. She hid from his sight, trying not to scare him. Patriot felt bad as she had probably given up her small blanket so that he could be warm. He forced himself up, even though he felt a little bit light headed, and walked over to the corner. He sniffed at her hand and she stepped into the light. She was covered in rags and appeared to be no more then 12 years old. "So, you must be a runaway too, huh boy," she asked in a whispery voice. She set out a water bucket and allowed him to drink. "Me too. My mother and I are not on the best terms, so there was no choice. You must have been some kind of war horse, I heard about the barricade, I wonder, did you come from there? You are so lucky to have come out alive."

He lifted his head and looked to his now stitched up scars. "Well, you are free here. If you want, we can be runaways together," she offered. Patriot was not technically a run away, but he sighed and stayed with her for the next few years. By the time he was six and she turned 16, they had a bond that was inseparable. They would ride through the hills and gather food and hunt and return to the old barn at night. They lived there happily without a care, and even planned on leaving to go to the big city the next day.

The city was so grand! The streets were full of rich people, and tall pure bred thoroughbred horses with their riders who trotted up the streets. Noise was everywhere, and Patriot did not know where to go. Lilly (the young girl) patted him and said, "Welcome to our new home boy. I have a job interview here, so hopefully I can get some money and get us a place to live."

They continued up the street and stopped at a post a little over a street away from the city's center. "I will be right back boy, stay here," she said and rushed into the building. A little over an hour later, she walked out with a sad face. It somehow must not have gone right, and without a word remounted and they continued to a little shop. It was a blacksmith and outside, a man was working on a horse. "Hello sir, is there work here. We could go to the mines and get iron for your wares. My horse Patriot is the strongest of his breed, and I think we can get you twice what you normally would."

The man looked at her for a second and then replied, "Let me finish this horse, then we will talk." Lilly came out of the shack with a large harness and attached it to him. She led him over to a mining cart and led him down to the mines. The men in the mines had looked at the workload and carried up all of the iron ore they had mined for the day. Patriot carted it back to the shop with all of his strength and then went back and forth four times the rest of the day. The blacksmith was impressed, and decided to give Lilly and Patriot a place to stay along with a small pay.

A few months later, the worst thing happened that Patriot will not forget to this day. Lilly had become ill, and she was on her deathbed. One night, at her worst, she came to Patriot's stall and rode him back out to the site where the old barn had once stood. She died there that next morning, leaving Patriot heartbroken. Her last words to him, "Run free my boy. My days have come to dusk, but yours are still at dawn. Run free my boy, and remember me, because I will remember you. Forever."

To this day, the adventure of Lilly and Patriot to the city had been passed down from story to legend, and legend to myth. Does everyone remember their story, no, but in his heart, Patriot remembers every moment of their being. He roams the woods today in search of a new adventure, and he never looked back since his determination to carry on Lilly's spirit.
