Trouble'd
IChapter One ╪ Scarlet|
The date was March 6, 1790, and it was the middle of Summer in a kingdom of England. In the heart of the kingdom was the castle, home to a handsome young prince by the name of Kanen. Surrounding the castle, were small homes for the peasants to live. Each peasant had a duty, whether it was to clean or run a business. Life wasn't completely fair, yet it worked for all.
The day was still young, with many awake and starting on their daily chores. One young lass, by the name of Rose, was heading toward the kingdom's church. Rose was a rather private, red head girl only by the age of 17. She was very abnormal, but also held the title of the priest's daughter. Her father had dreampt of a son, but yet her mother had died only after one child. Forever, her true death would remain a secret, for only Rose knows the truth. Having no son, Rose's father can't leave any child to take his place as priest. It was unholy for a female to become a priest. So, instead, Rose would help out and clean. She was welcome as any other guest, only taking on simple household chores built for females at the time.
When the day was over, and the work was finished, Rose would hide in a cellar she had built herself. It laid in the yard, covered by dirt so it wouldn't be found by prying eyes. The room was small, yet big enough for her and some space. This room was everything to her. It held all of her secrecy, including her undying love for Prince Kanen. His gorgeous blue eyes and soft blond hair, it had most girls under his spell. One thing that she loved to do, but had to stay underground, was her witchcraft. It was forbidden, so she had to hide it. If anyone found out, she would be executed immediately.
Rose was cleaning seats in the church. In her hand was a dirty rag soaked with water. For an hour she had been wiping the cold stone seats. A horn echoed through the air, sending Rose with excitement. It only meant one thing; her love was here. She darted outside, her long legs moving swiftly in the wind. Upon her was a large crowd, all surrounding a few horses. Upon a horse was Prince Kanen, surrounded with his guards. His smile sent an uneasy feeling into Rose, sending her with envy.
Only a few feet was Grace, a regular worshiper to the church. She was young, only of the age 16, but still ever as elegant. Her hair was a light blond, and curled to rest at her waist. Her eyes were sea-blue, with long eyelashes. By far she was one of the most gorgeous girls Rose has seen, but she wouldn't accept it. Grace gave a smile, she had also fancy'd Kanen too. It didn't surprise Rose, for many girls had. Grace had been dressed in a satin gown, with silk stitched in. It beats the dirty work clothes Rose is wearing. Wearing such an elegant gown showed wealth, which was the only necessary to win the had of Kanen. It was only right for a noble to became queen, so peasants were often ignored.
A man jumped off one of the horses, opening a scroll. He coughed, clearing his throat, then read "Here thee, Hear thee. The time has come for our prince to become a king. In order to take the throne, he must find a wife to rule at his side. He will now be choosing his lovely queen." A queen? Was this really happening? Rose fell with awe. This might be her chance, if he would choose her.
Kanen looked at the short man who had spoke, a smile filled his face as he thanked him. Getting off his horse, Kanen straightened up. He scanned the crowd for a new wife. Once his eyes reached Rose, he took a breath. Their eyes locked together. Kanen took a step toward her, then another. Before she knew it Kanen was only a few feet away. He took a breath then said "Would you take the honor of being my love?" He reached out his hand for her to take.
Rose's eyes filled with joy. Was she the one he chose? She opened her mouth to speak, only to be interrupted by another voice. Rose looked toward the source, only to find Grace dart out and collapse onto Kanen. She nodded, hugging his body. Kanen was startled by the enjoyment, but responded by hugging her back. The two together sickened Rose. Kanen wasn't even talking to Rose in the first place. He probably didn't even see her.
By then, Rose collapsed to the ground. A few people noticed, but just ignored her. An hour passed, most people had gone back to their chores. Rose was still there, curled into a ball. Her hands were covering her face as she cried. He never loved her. She was stupid to think that. A scream escaped her lips, pain sent along. Her fists were clenched tight and she ground her teeth with anger. It sickened her. It made her feel sick at the thought of Grace stealing her spot. Breathing under her breath, she hissed "I'll show her.. I'll show everybody who I really am." A smile came across her face, many thoughts entering her mind. She was going to make Grace wish she had never been born.
