You could think of them as shapechangers of sorts; you can imagine them as any animal you want to imagine them as, regardless of your age. Your daemon/imaginary friend might have a similar personality to you, but doesn't necessarily have to. I think you might be getting that confused with the personality typing aspect of daemonism as we practice it-- as a personality typing system, your "form" is whatever animal's behavior most closely matches your personality. And as you age, your personality naturally changes less and less (it's a fact! C: ) and therefore whatever animal most closely matches your personality changes less and less, and that's what "settled" is, once you hit that age where you're not changing a whole lot anymore (it's usually in your 20s from what I understand). It's not that your imaginary friend can't change shape unless you want it to be that way, since your imaginary friend is by definition only bound by your brain.
I'm not overly familiar with spirit animals, though, so I can't comment on in what ways the above might be different from them. Sorry! I hope this made sense/helped clear things up anyways. :3
Thank you! :3 A Spirit animal is supposed to be what your soul animal is or something, and cannot shape-shift/change unless your personality changes. They're basically the opposite of you, and should not represent you in personality. Everything else should, form what I understand. xD
Sorry, that's off topic. Thank you again. Maybe I dwell deeper into this daemon stuff. (I do hear this random voice in my head telling me to turn my music down, pay attention in class, scolding me, etc. xD And I often get this random image of a brown crocodile of some sort.
I look further into this. ;3
