Yes, an uncommon edit can be applied to a preexisting kalon, or to a MYO (when I say added to a MYO, I mean, that when the custom is being made, you can add that uncommon trait to it, by using the item).
An uncommon edit item can be used to apply any one uncommon traits of your choice, so yes, if you wanted, you could choose custom ears! You don't necessarily need kalon staff to add the item for you. You, or another person could add it yourselves, but yet would need to get the edit approved by a kalon staff member for it to be valid. Make sure you do the same things that you would do if it were a custom, being, showing proof of ownership of the edit item and keeping it translucently covered until approved, along with providing a screenshot of the new edit, from under the cover and such!
